JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes is a 1,010-room resort in south Orlando with its own waterpark: a quarter-mile lazy river, three heated waterslides and a zero-entry splash cove for small kids. It shares a 500-acre campus with the Ritz-Carlton, so you also get a large spa, a Greg Norman golf course and guided nature activities without leaving the property.
The trade-off is cost and location: a daily resort fee and paid parking sit on top of the room rate, and every park day means a drive or a reserved shuttle. Note that it is a different hotel from the JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek next to Walt Disney World.
Quick answer: Book the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes if you want a full resort with a real lazy river and waterslides, family suites with bunk beds and easy access to SeaWorld, Epic Universe and the rest of Universal. Skip it if you want to walk to a park or keep extra charges low: at the time of writing, expect a $55-plus-tax daily resort fee and $42-plus-tax self-parking.

Location and distances
Grande Lakes sits on Central Florida Parkway near John Young Parkway, in a quiet pocket of south Orlando surrounded by lakes, golf and Shingle Creek, the headwaters of the Everglades. Nothing is walkable outside the gates, but SeaWorld and the Universal area are close by car.

The resort’s figures vary by page (its homepage FAQ lists Epic Universe and SeaWorld at 3 miles and Walt Disney World at 9; its Universal partner page says 2.3 miles to Epic Universe) and read like straight-line distances. Road routes we checked with OSRM, without traffic:
| Destination | Road distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| SeaWorld Orlando | About 3.5 miles | About 8 min |
| Epic Universe | About 5 miles | About 11 min |
| Universal main garages | About 8 miles | About 16 min |
| Disney Springs | About 9–10 miles | 17–20 min |
| EPCOT | About 11 miles | About 20 min |
| Magic Kingdom (Transportation Center) | About 14 miles | About 23 min |
| Orlando International Airport | About 11–12 miles | 19–22 min |
Rush hour and park-opening traffic can add a lot. The official directions from the airport use the Beachline (SR 528), a toll road, so budget for tolls if you rent a car. For more stays close to the newest park, see our hotels near Epic Universe, or compare this area with others in our guide to the best areas to stay in Orlando.
Rooms and suites
All 1,010 rooms and suites were refreshed in a multi-million-dollar renovation, according to the resort. Rooms have marble bathrooms and 65-inch TVs, and some have a balcony or a separate tub and shower.
- Resort View: 425 square feet, one king with a sofa bed or two queens.
- Lakefront: 425 square feet, the same bed choices, with views of the waterpark and gardens.
- Executive Suites: 840 square feet with a separate king bedroom and a living room; one version adds a wet bar.
- Family Suites: the two-bedroom layout is listed at 1,286 square feet, with a king bedroom, a second room with a king, two twin bunk beds and a sofa bed, and three bathrooms, plus VIP check-in and age-based kids’ amenities.
- Presidential Suites: four high-floor suites of roughly 1,700 to 2,100 square feet with a full kitchen and dining for eight.

The accommodations page says there are 15 family suites, in two- and three-bedroom versions, while the renovation page describes seven new executive family suites. Either way they are scarce, so book early if you need bunk beds.

A two-queen room suits many families of four, but the official pages don’t publish a maximum occupancy per room type, so confirm it for your party. Pack-and-plays are available on request. Guaranteed connecting rooms, early check-in at noon and late check-out at 2 p.m. can be reserved in advance. Standard check-in is 4 p.m., check-out is 11 a.m., and you must be 18 to check in.
Pools, lazy river and waterpark
The resort describes six zones around a quarter-mile lazy river holding 670,000 gallons, with jets, waterfalls and bridges. The JW Marriott pool and lazy river are open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The main pool is heated, with a children’s pool and two whirlpools, and Marriott lists a lifeguard on duty.

The Headwaters Slide Tower has three heated slides, open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.:
| Slide | Ride | Minimum height |
|---|---|---|
| The Chute | Fastest, single riders only | 48 inches |
| The Rapids | Tube slide with a funnel, single or tandem | 42 inches |
| The Current | Light-effects slide, single or tandem | 40 inches |
Younger kids get Splash Cove, a large zero-entry area, and PlayVenture, a 1,000-square-foot playground with lawn games. AquaVenture, a suspended water course with water guns, opens noon to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. The JW Studio game room (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) has video games, air hockey, pool and ping pong tables.
Waterpark cabanas, served by Knife Burger, can be reserved from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and cost extra. It is a shared Grande Lakes amenity, so expect Ritz-Carlton guests too and a busy deck on weekends and holidays. Our Orlando hotels with lazy rivers guide compares it with other resorts.
Away from the water, Grande Lakes Sports offers bookable guided experiences such as a kayak or canoe Eco Tour on Shingle Creek, a Sunrise Safari, falconry, archery and bass fishing, and there is a mountain bike trail.
Dining and breakfast
Breakfast is not included in standard rates. The JW Marriott’s own venues, with hours at last check:
| Venue | Style | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Citron | American breakfast | Daily 7–11 a.m. |
| Primo | Italian, MICHELIN-recommended | 5:30–10 p.m. |
| Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen | Flatbreads, sandwiches, craft beer | Daily noon–10 p.m. |
| Knife Burger | Burgers at the waterpark | From 11 a.m.; closes 5:30 p.m. (7 p.m. Fri–Sat) |
| EvrBar | Lobby bar, light bites | 4 p.m.–midnight |

For a quick start, Starbucks opens at 6 a.m. and Café Bodega serves grab-and-go snacks and sandwiches from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Ritz-Carlton’s restaurants, including Knife & Spoon (steak and seafood) and Highball & Harvest, are on the same campus.
Parking and fees
Charges listed on official pages at the time of writing:
| Item | Cost at last check | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resort fee | $55 + tax per night | Added to the room rate |
| Self-parking | $42 + tax per day | Only offered at the JW |
| Valet parking | $58 + tax per day | Same rate at the Ritz-Carlton |
| Pet fee | $250 + tax per stay | Up to two pets, 40 lb each |
Grande Lakes publishes two slightly different lists of what the resort fee covers. Both include enhanced in-room internet, a daily one-hour bike rental for two, tennis court time and reservable park shuttles. One adds driving range privileges, two lazy river floats and a daily fitness class for two; the other adds the waterslides, AquaVenture for two guests per room and pickleball.
Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book, so compare the total with fees, taxes and parking. At last check, some official packages bundled free self-parking with a daily resort credit. At last check, Marriott listed no EV charging stations; service animals stay free.
Transport to the parks
The main Grande Lakes FAQ says shuttles to SeaWorld, Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are included in the resort fee but require a reservation at least 24 hours in advance (extension 4005). The homepage FAQ calls it a complimentary service and names Universal and Epic Universe, SeaWorld, Magic Kingdom and EPCOT as stops.
Marriott’s hotel page (July 2026 capture) also lists a “Local Shuttle” at $45 under other transportation, without details, so ask about times, drop-off points and any charge when you book a seat. There is no airport shuttle; the concierge can arrange a taxi or a Mears car.
With a car, SeaWorld and Epic Universe are about 10 minutes away, which makes midday pool breaks realistic. Grande Lakes is a Universal Partner Hotel, not a Universal-owned hotel, so don’t count on Universal’s on-site hotel perks, such as Early Park Admission, unless Universal confirms them for your booking. It is also not on Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry hotel list (checked on an August 2026 capture of Disney’s page).
Spa, kids club and other amenities
- Spa: the 40,000-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa on the campus has 40 treatment rooms, a salon and an adults-only lap pool. It opens 9 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.–7 p.m. on weekends and adds a 22% service charge to treatments. Spa facilities are for guests 18 and older.
- Kids club: Ritz Kids, for ages 4 to 12, runs full days (10 a.m.–4 p.m., lunch included), half days and a Kids Night Out on Friday and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead. No official page spells out JW guest access or prices, so confirm when you book.
- Fitness: a 24-hour fitness center with cardio machines and free weights; per the spa FAQ, it’s for ages 18 and up (16–17 with a parent).
- Golf and tennis: the 18-hole, par-72 Ritz-Carlton Golf Club by Greg Norman, home of the PNC Championship, plus two tennis and two pickleball courts. The course is closed for enhancements through October 31 at the time of writing; confirm it has reopened.
- Wi-Fi: free in public areas; in-room internet is part of the resort fee, and Marriott Bonvoy members who book direct get it free.

JW Marriott vs Ritz-Carlton at Grande Lakes
Both hotels share the waterpark, spa, golf course and activities. The JW Marriott, with 1,010 rooms, is the livelier, more family-focused side, with self-parking, bunk-bed family suites and the waterpark at its door. The Ritz-Carlton is quieter and more formal, with 480-square-foot rooms, Club Level and valet-only parking. Our Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes review covers the other side of the campus.

Who it suits
This resort fits families who want the hotel to be part of the vacation: slides in the morning, the lazy river after a nap and dinner at Primo. Multigenerational groups can split up, with grandparents at the spa or golf course and kids in the water.

It fits less well if you plan back-to-back Disney days, don’t want to drive, or are on a tight budget.
Pros
- A quarter-mile lazy river, three heated slides, a zero-entry splash cove and a playground on site.
- Bunk-bed family suites and reservable connecting rooms for larger families.
- Self-parking is available, unlike at the valet-only Ritz-Carlton.
- A large spa, a championship golf course and guided nature activities on the shared campus.
- About 10 minutes by car to SeaWorld and Epic Universe.
Limitations to know
- A $55-plus-tax daily resort fee and $42-plus-tax self-parking at the time of writing.
- Breakfast is not included.
- Park shuttles must be reserved a day ahead, and official pages describe them differently.
- Nothing walkable outside the resort; Magic Kingdom is around 23 minutes away without traffic.
- The slides close at 5:30 p.m., and the waterpark is shared with Ritz-Carlton guests.
What to check before you book
- The total price with resort fee, taxes and parking for your number of nights.
- Maximum occupancy for your room type if you are three or more.
- Shuttle times, drop-off points and any charge, especially for Disney days.
- Whether a family suite or connecting room is confirmed, not just requested.
- Ritz Kids access and prices, and golf course status for your dates.
