The best hotels in Clearwater Beach sit on a narrow barrier island on Florida’s Gulf Coast, most of them within a mile of Pier 60 and the Beach Walk promenade. Clearwater Beach is roughly 95 to 100 miles from the Orlando theme parks by road, so it works best as a two- or three-night beach add-on to your Orlando itinerary.
The extras are what separate these hotels. Several add a $35 to $40 nightly resort fee plus $40 or more for valet parking, while others bundle breakfast and parking into one fee.
Quick answer: For luxury and a kids’ club, book the JW Marriott Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa; for a Gulf-view balcony in every room, choose Opal Sands Resort. To walk to Pier 60, compare the Wyndham Grand and the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa. The Hyatt Regency is best for kitchen suites. To keep extras low, the Edge Hotel and Pier House 60 bundle breakfast and parking into one fee, and the Hampton Inn & Suites includes a free hot breakfast.

How we chose the best hotels in Clearwater Beach
We picked eight hotels on Clearwater Beach itself, from Pier 60 south to Clearwater Pass, plus one resort on Sand Key just across the pass. We compared beach access, verified amenities, the real cost with resort fees and parking, and access to Pier 60 and the airports.
Facts come from each hotel’s official website, checked in October 2026. Where a site blocked us, we used archived copies of the official pages from March to July 2026, marked “at last check.” Distances are rounded road or walking distances without traffic. We didn’t stay at these hotels, and we don’t publish scores or fixed prices.

How to choose a Clearwater Beach hotel
Pier 60, the south end or Sand Key
Stay near Pier 60 (Wyndham Grand, Hilton, Pier House 60 or Hyatt) to walk to the nightly sunset celebration, the marina and restaurants. The south end of Beach Walk (Opal Sands, Edge, Hampton and JW Marriott) is calmer but still walkable, about 10 to 20 minutes on foot from the pier. Sand Key, across Clearwater Pass, is quieter, so plan to drive or take the trolley to the pier.
Add up the real nightly cost
At our last checks, the resort fee plus parking added about $88 a night before tax at the JW Marriott ($40 + $48), $77 at the Wyndham Grand ($35 + $42) and $71 to $75 at the Hyatt ($35 plus $36 self-parking or $40 valet). The Edge and Pier House 60 charge one $37 fee that includes breakfast and parking, the Hampton charges $25 to park, and the Sheraton listed $30. Pinellas County also adds a 6% tourist development tax on hotel stays, on top of sales tax.
Getting there from Orlando and the airports
| From | Road distance | Drive time* |
|---|---|---|
| Disney Springs | About 94 miles | About 2 hours |
| Universal Orlando | About 101 miles | About 2 hr 10 min |
| Orlando International (MCO) | About 108 miles | About 2 hr 20 min |
| Tampa International (TPA) | About 20 miles | About 35 min |
| St. Pete–Clearwater (PIE) | About 12 miles | About 25 min |
*To the Pier 60 lot, rounded and without traffic, checked in October 2026. Allow extra time around Tampa.
From Orlando, the fastest route takes I-4 west to Tampa, then I-275 and State Road 60 across Old Tampa Bay and the Memorial Causeway. From Disney Springs or Universal it used no toll roads in our check, but from Orlando International the fastest route starts on the SR 417 toll road; see our guide to Orlando toll roads and the Visitor Toll Pass.
Getting around without your car
PSTA’s Jolley Trolley runs daily from Clearwater Beach up the coast through Dunedin to Tarpon Springs, and its Suncoast Beach Trolley runs every 30 minutes down Gulf Boulevard for $2.25 a ride (exact fare). For a day visit, city beach lots cost $3.50 an hour at the time of writing (street meters $4); the Pier 60 lot has 141 spaces and is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Pier 60 and the beach rules
The City of Clearwater’s own pages disagree on Pier 60. At the time of writing, its beach-rules page says the pier is open only up to the fishing pier after recent hurricanes, with the bait house and fishing pier closed until further notice, while its Pier 60 Park page lists bait, tackle and fishing passes, and local news reported the fishing section reopened in September 2025. The city gives park hours as 6 or 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Lifeguards work daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., staffed by season and weather. Alcohol, tents and animals other than service animals aren’t allowed on the public beach.
Hurricane season
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. If you travel in late summer or fall, choose a flexible rate, confirm that your hotel and Pier 60 are fully open, and read our guide to Orlando hurricane season and park storm policies.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Clearwater Beach from Orlando?
Pier 60 is about 94 miles by road from Disney Springs and about 101 miles from Universal Orlando, roughly 2 hours to 2 hours 10 minutes without traffic. The route uses I-4, I-275 and State Road 60. Orlando International Airport is about 108 miles away. Tampa traffic can add a lot of time, so staying two nights or more beats a day trip.
Which Clearwater Beach hotels are closest to Pier 60?
Pier House 60, the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach and the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa are all within about 0.3 mile of the pier on foot, and the Hyatt Regency is about 0.4 mile away. Opal Sands is roughly a 10- to 15-minute walk. The Edge, the Hampton Inn & Suites and the JW Marriott are 0.8 to 0.9 mile south, and the Sheraton on Sand Key is about 2.5 miles by road.
Which Clearwater Beach hotels include free breakfast?
In this guide, the Hampton Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach includes a free hot breakfast buffet. The Edge Hotel and Pier House 60 include a continental breakfast in their $37 nightly amenity fee, which also covers parking. At the Wyndham Grand, the resort fee covers breakfast for kids 5 and under with each paying adult. At the Hilton, the breakfast buffet costs extra.
Should I fly into Tampa or Orlando for Clearwater Beach?
If you’re only visiting Clearwater, Tampa International is much closer: about 20 miles, or roughly 35 minutes without traffic, versus about 108 miles from Orlando International. St. Pete–Clearwater International is even closer, at about 12 miles. If you’re combining the beach with Disney or Universal, flying into Orlando and home from Tampa can save a long drive back, but check one-way car rental fees first.
Are dogs allowed at Clearwater Beach hotels?
Some hotels welcome dogs. At our last checks, Opal Sands charged $100 per dog per night (two maximum), the JW Marriott $150 per stay for dogs up to 40 pounds, and the Hampton Inn & Suites $75 to $125 per stay for up to two pets. The Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton and Wyndham Grand don’t allow pets. The City of Clearwater doesn’t allow animals, except service animals, on its public bathing beaches.
Bottom line
The best hotels in Clearwater Beach come down to location and what’s included. Choose the JW Marriott or Opal Sands for luxury, the Wyndham Grand, Hilton or Pier House 60 to walk to Pier 60, the Hyatt for kitchen suites, the Sheraton for a quieter beach, and the Edge or Hampton to keep extras down. Confirm fees and parking for your dates. Check rates at Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach or compare the other picks above.
