Rosen Shingle Creek is a 1,501-room independent resort on Universal Boulevard in Orlando with four heated pools, an 18-hole championship golf course and a full-service spa, and it doesn’t charge a resort fee, which is rare at this level. It’s also a major convention hotel, about 2 to 2.5 miles by road from the Orange County Convention Center’s halls, so expect conference groups alongside vacationing families.

For theme parks, it’s a Universal Orlando Partner Hotel with free scheduled buses to the Universal parks, Epic Universe included. Those buses run on a fixed timetable, and you reserve seats in person. Disney is a 20-plus-minute drive or a paid shuttle away. Details below come from official pages at the time of writing.

Quick answer: Book Rosen Shingle Creek if you want golf, a spa and four pools without a resort fee. It works best for convention trips, golf getaways and Universal or SeaWorld vacations, especially with a car. If you’ll spend most days at Disney, or you want Universal’s Early Park Admission and frequent buses, an on-site Universal hotel or a Lake Buena Vista hotel is a better fit.

Location: convention district, close to Universal and SeaWorld

The hotel sits beside the Beachline Expressway, which runs east to the airport and west to I-4 and International Drive, so it’s an easy base if you drive. It isn’t connected to the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) by a skybridge. If you want to walk to your show over a pedestrian bridge, see our guide to hotels connected to the Orange County Convention Center.

The hotel calls itself the closest Rosen property to Epic Universe, which is about 1.5 miles north in a straight line. Distances below are approximate map estimates; allow extra time at rush hour and on big convention days.

Getting to Universal, Epic Universe, SeaWorld and Disney

Universal and Epic Universe: free partner shuttle

As a Universal Orlando Partner Hotel, Rosen Shingle Creek offers free scheduled transportation to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, CityWalk, Volcano Bay and Epic Universe. The buses aren’t run by the hotel and don’t run continuously.

  • Schedule: at the time of writing, three morning departures to the original parks (7:35, 9:05 and 11:25 a.m.) and three to Epic Universe (8:15, 9:45 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.), with four evening returns on each route. The last ones left about 9:35 p.m. from the original parks and 9:10 p.m. from Epic.
  • Reservations: required, in person at the Universal Partner Hotel Vacation Planning Center in the lobby, from a day ahead up to 30 minutes before departure. Seats are limited.
  • Exclusions: not valid for special events, groups or Early Park Admission.
  • Wheelchairs and scooters: reserve 24 hours ahead; there’s space for one mobility aid per departure.

Times can change without notice (the hotel’s own pages disagree on the SeaWorld connector), so confirm at the desk. For park opening or late nights, a car or rideshare is more flexible. For other options, compare our list of hotels near Epic Universe.

Universal perks: Express and Early Park Admission

Partner hotels don’t include Universal Express. Free Express Unlimited comes only with the three Premier hotels (Hard Rock, Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific), and only at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Early Park Admission is an on-site hotel benefit. Partner-hotel guests generally get it only with a Universal Orlando Vacations package that includes park tickets. Our guide to Universal Early Park Admission explains who qualifies.

SeaWorld and Aquatica

Partner transportation also covers SeaWorld and Aquatica, but you change buses at Universal: an early shuttle to Universal, then the only connector to SeaWorld, listed as leaving Universal at 10:05 or 10:10 a.m. at the time of writing. The return connector left Aquatica at 7:40 p.m. and SeaWorld at 7:45 p.m., and you switch buses again at Universal. With SeaWorld about 3.5 miles away, driving is much simpler.

Walt Disney World: paid shuttle or drive

There’s no free Disney shuttle. Fabulous Buses, a third-party company, runs a round trip from the hotel to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for $15 per person ages 3 and up (under 3 free) at the time of writing. You can book up to seven days ahead, and the bus doesn’t run if nobody has reserved that time. From either park, Disney’s free transportation takes you to the others. If you drive, EPCOT is about 11 miles away and Magic Kingdom’s parking about 13.5 miles; Disney’s standard theme park parking was $35 a day at the time of writing.

Rooms and suites

All rooms are non-smoking, and the hotel says its standard rooms, at 436 gross sq ft, are among the largest in Central Florida. Most are two-queen rooms (946 of them), plus 416 kings. Each has a 50-inch HDTV, a mini-fridge, a coffeemaker, a safe that fits a 17-inch laptop, a robe and free Wi-Fi.

  • Double Queen: the usual choice for a family of four. With five or more, confirm occupancy with the hotel before booking.
  • King: one king bed with the same amenities.
  • Petite King Suite: a king bed plus a couch (56 suites).
  • Executive Suite: 69 parlor suites that can be set up with one, two or three bedrooms, with a Keurig coffee maker.
  • Grande and Presidential Suites: 37 Grande Suites of more than 1,300 sq ft with golf course views, and three Presidential Suites of more than 1,700 sq ft.
  • Accessible rooms: 75 ADA rooms, some with roll-in showers. The pool area has a zero-entry pool and a pool lift.

To check suite availability, the hotel asks you to call it directly at 1-866-996-6338. A 14th-floor VIP Lounge (open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.) serves continental breakfast, evening appetizers and desserts, with beer and wine extra; ask which rates include access. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out 11 a.m. If you book several rooms for the same dates, give a different guest name for each, because the hotel may cancel multiple rooms under one name.

Pools, recreation and things to do

The pool complex sits beside the golf course. Its four heated outdoor pools (the hotel says they’re seasonally heated) are a lap pool, a zero-entry family pool, a cabana pool with private cabanas you can reserve, and a kiddie wading pool. Two hot tubs, the Cat-Tails Pool Bar & Grille and the Creek Ice Creamery round it out.

It isn’t a water park resort: the official amenity list has no waterslide or lazy river. Other recreation includes:

  • Pickleball and tennis courts
  • Basketball (on request) and an Olympic-regulation sand volleyball court
  • A nature trail and seasonal fishing by reservation
  • A video game arcade and EV charging stations
  • A fitness center at the spa ($10 per person per day or $20 per stay, tax included, at the time of writing); ages 16 and 17 need a parent or guardian, and under-16s aren’t allowed.

Dining: A Land Remembered and more

The hotel lists 15 dining and lounge options, and says two of its restaurants hold AAA Four Diamond ratings.

  • Golf club and in-room: the Clubhouse Grille serves lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and in-room dining runs 24 hours.

Restaurant hours are subject to change, so check before you plan around a meal.

Golf and spa

Shingle Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by the Arnold Palmer Design Company, within walking distance of the hotel. It has five sets of tees, GPS carts, a 70,000-square-foot driving range and the Shingle Creek Golf Academy. The hotel says its guests save 20% off rack-rate green fees; check current terms when you book a tee time. If golf is the main reason for your trip, also look at Waldorf Astoria Orlando near Disney.

The Spa at Shingle Creek covers 13,000 sq ft, with nine treatment rooms, a salon and the fitness center. Signature treatments use Florida scents such as citrus and cedar, and packages run from two hours to a full day.

Fees, parking and policies

The official fact sheet says there is never a resort fee. If you drive, parking is the main extra; the fitness center and dog stays also cost extra. Here’s what the hotel listed at the time of writing:

Dogs must be leashed in public areas and crated when left alone, and they can’t go to the pools, restaurants, lounges, spa or fitness center. ADA service animals are exempt, but emotional support animals are not. For more options, see our guide to pet-friendly hotels in Orlando.

Frequently asked questions

Does Rosen Shingle Creek charge a resort fee?

No. The hotel’s fact sheet says there is never a resort fee, and Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas is free. The main extra cost is parking: at the time of writing, self-parking was $36 plus tax per day and valet $48 plus tax. Some seasonal packages have included parking discounts, so check the hotel’s specials before you book.

Does Rosen Shingle Creek have a free shuttle to Universal and Epic Universe?

Yes. As a Universal Partner Hotel, it offers free scheduled buses to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, CityWalk, Volcano Bay and Epic Universe. At the time of writing, there were three morning departures on each route and four evening returns. Reserve in person at the lobby’s Universal desk, from a day ahead. The shuttle doesn’t run for Early Park Admission.

How do you get from Rosen Shingle Creek to Disney World?

There’s no free Disney shuttle. Fabulous Buses runs a paid round trip from the hotel to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, $15 per person ages 3 and up at the time of writing, bookable up to seven days ahead. Otherwise, drive: EPCOT is about 11 miles away, and Disney’s standard theme park parking was $35 a day at the time of writing.

Is Rosen Shingle Creek connected to the Orange County Convention Center?

No. The hotel calls itself a half-mile east of the OCCC, but there’s no skybridge and the halls are about 2 to 2.5 miles away by road, so plan on driving, rideshare or an event shuttle. To walk in over a pedestrian bridge, choose a connected hotel such as Rosen Centre, Rosen Plaza, Hyatt Regency Orlando or Hilton Orlando.

Is Rosen Shingle Creek good for kids?

It suits families who want space and calm pools rather than thrill slides. There’s a zero-entry family pool, a kiddie wading pool, a video arcade, an ice cream shop, sand volleyball and a nature trail. The official amenity list has no waterslide or lazy river, so kids who want slides may prefer another resort.
