The best free things to do in Orlando are strolling Disney Springs, watching the weekend car cruises at Old Town in Kissimmee, walking the loop around Lake Eola, visiting Winter Park’s free museums and gardens, and driving the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive to spot alligators and wading birds. None of them needs a ticket, and several come with free parking.
In Orlando, “free” usually has a catch, and it’s usually parking. This guide only lists places where the official website says entry (or the specific activity) costs nothing, and it flags the costs that sneak in. For paid attractions and day trips, see our guide to things to do in Orlando besides theme parks.
We checked every hour, fee and free-entry rule on the official pages in October 2026. Schedules change often, so confirm before you drive out.
Quick answer: For a free evening near the parks, go to Disney Springs (free entry and free standard self-parking) or to Universal CityWalk after 6 p.m., when self-parking at the main garages is free except on Halloween Horror Nights event nights and New Year’s Eve. For a free day, pair Lake Eola with Winter Park’s free museums and gardens, or drive the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive (Fridays to Sundays).

Free evenings near Disney and Universal
Disney Springs
Disney Springs is Walt Disney World’s shopping, dining and entertainment district in Lake Buena Vista. Disney’s official shopping districts page says there’s no admission fee to enter Disney Springs, and the Disney Springs site lists complimentary self-parking in all surface lots and garages.

The free part is the atmosphere: waterfront walkways, window shopping, the Art Walk murals in Town Center and the open-air stages. On the evening we checked (October 8, 2026), Disney’s calendar listed live sets on the Fountain Stage, Lakeview Stage and AdventHealth Waterside Stage from about 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Line-ups rotate, and outdoor shows can be cancelled in bad weather.
- Parking hours: garages open at 9 a.m. on regular days and 7 a.m. on special merchandise days, including Tuesdays for pin releases.
- Paid extras: Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil, the Aerophile balloon, Amphicar tours, bowling, the cinema, the carousel and the train.
Our Disney Springs guide covers buses, garages and shows in detail.
Universal CityWalk
CityWalk is Universal Orlando’s restaurant and nightlife district, served by the same garage as Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure (6000 Universal Boulevard). On Universal’s official Discover Universal blog, its guest communications team confirmed in June 2026 that you can enter CityWalk without a park admission ticket.

Parking is the catch. Universal’s parking page (English UK version, checked October 2026) lists regular self-parking at $35 including tax, but says self-parking is free after 6 p.m. on nights that aren’t Halloween Horror Nights event nights. The offer doesn’t apply on New Year’s Eve (December 31) or at Epic Universe, and other restrictions may apply.
So arrive after 6 p.m. on a regular night, stroll the promenade and browse the Universal Studios Store. In autumn, check the Halloween Horror Nights calendar first.
Old Town car shows in Kissimmee
Old Town is an 18-acre open-air district at 5770 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (US 192) in Kissimmee. Its FAQ says it offers free weekly events, live music and car shows. It’s open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Wednesday Night Bike Show: 6 to 10 p.m.; Old Town calls it a free event.
- Friday Night Muscle Car Show and Cruise: from 3 p.m., cruise at 8:30 p.m.; spectators watch at no cost.
- Saturday Night Classic Car Show and Cruise: from 1 p.m., with up to 250 pre-1985 cars and the cruise at 8:30 p.m.
- Import Car Show: the first Sunday of each month.

Old Town’s own pages disagree on parking. The parking page says the lots behind the buildings are free year-round and the lot of more than 650 spaces off Florida Plaza Boulevard costs $11 plus tax and fees per car, paid by QR code or text. The FAQ says free parking is first-come, first-served from Friday to Sunday and the big lot is paid on weekends, cash only. Arrive early and read the signs. To walk there, see our hotels near Old Town Kissimmee.
Downtown Orlando: Lake Eola Park and free garden days
Lake Eola Park, at 512 E. Washington Street, is downtown Orlando’s signature park. A 0.9-mile sidewalk circles the lake past the Linton E. Allen Centennial Fountain, the Walt Disney Amphitheater and skyline views. The City lists it as open 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. daily and shows no admission charge; the swan pedal boats are a paid rental (Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

Sunday is the best day to go. The Orlando Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at E. Central Boulevard and N. Eola Drive, with vendors, a wine and beer garden and live entertainment. The market says nearby on-street parking is free on Sundays; the garages are paid. The City also lists free events at the lake, including Kenke Fest (October 10, 2026), a “new, free, and all-ages” music festival, and Eolaween (October 24, 2026), a free family Halloween party.
Harry P. Leu Gardens free days
Leu Gardens, a botanical garden north of downtown, normally charges $15 for adults and $10 for children 4 to 17 (under 4 free), but opens free to the public on set days. The next listed free days are November 2 and December 7, 2026, and January 4, 2027. It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 18, 2026, then 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until January 3, 2027.
Winter Park: free museums, gardens and history
Winter Park, about 15 miles north of International Drive, packs several free stops around Park Avenue. The Morse Museum says free parking is available on the first, fourth and fifth floors of the Park Place garage on Canton Avenue and on the street along Park Avenue. To stay within walking distance, compare the best hotels in Winter Park.
Morse Museum free Fridays
The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, at 445 N. Park Avenue, holds what it calls the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, including his chapel from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors 60 and older and $3 for students, and free for children under 12.

From November to April, the museum stays open until 8 p.m. on Fridays and entry is free from 4 to 8 p.m. Otherwise it’s open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, closed Mondays. Bring earbuds for its complimentary cellphone audio tours.
Rollins Museum of Art
The Rollins Museum of Art, on the Rollins College campus at 1000 Holt Avenue, offers free admission for all visitors. It’s open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, until 7 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. It closes on Mondays, holidays and during installations, including November 26 and 27 and December 24, 25 and 31, 2026.
Hannibal Square Heritage Center
This small center, established in 2007 by the Crealdé School of Art, tells the story of Winter Park’s historic African American west side through local history told by the people who lived it. It says it’s free and open to the public Tuesday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mead Botanical Garden and Kraft Azalea Garden
Mead Botanical Garden, at 1300 S. Denning Drive, says admission is free, and it’s open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Its 47 acres include trails, a creek, a boardwalk, a greenhouse, a butterfly garden and a pond with turtles and wading birds.
Kraft Azalea Garden, at 1365 Alabama Drive, is a 5.22-acre public garden on Lake Maitland, open from 8 a.m. to dusk. The City of Winter Park highlights its Exedra monument, a great egret rookery and a banyan tree it calls the largest this far north, and the city’s fee schedule (effective October 1, 2026) lists only wedding rentals there, no admission. On Saturdays, add the city’s farmers’ market, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Central Park’s West Meadow at New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard (it moves to Seven Oaks Park for some big events).
Free nature: wetlands and a wildlife drive
Orlando Wetlands
The Orlando Wetlands, at 25155 Wheeler Road in Christmas, east of Orlando, is a city water reclamation facility that doubles as a nature park. The City says it’s free and open to the public for hiking, biking and nature viewing, with 1,650 acres and more than 18 miles of marsh trails.
- Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, sunrise to sunset; the Visitors Center is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Free tram tours: volunteer-led on Fridays and Saturdays; from November to April the first leaves at 9 a.m. and the last at 2:15 p.m. (1:15 p.m. from May to October).
- Good to know: tours take groups of 10 or fewer, first come, first served, and can be cancelled after heavy rain.
It’s about 37 miles from International Drive, and the fastest route uses the SR 408 toll road.
Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive
The St. Johns River Water Management District says the Lake Apopka North Shore, including its Wildlife Drive, is free to visit. The one-way, 11-mile drive crosses former farmland restored to marsh, from the entrance at 2850 Lust Road in Apopka to Jones Avenue, and takes one to three hours.

The gate is open to vehicles from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays, and all vehicles must be out by 5 p.m. The speed limit is 10 mph, vehicles longer than 25 feet and trailers aren’t allowed, and you’ll see alligators, so stop only in the pull-over areas and never feed wildlife. It’s about 23 miles from I-Drive; the fastest route uses Florida’s Turnpike and SR 429, and our Orlando toll roads guide explains rental-car tolls.
Free events worth timing your trip around
- October 10 and 24, 2026: Kenke Fest and Eolaween at Lake Eola, both listed as free by the City.

How to keep a free day actually free
- Time Universal for after 6 p.m.: arriving at 5:30 p.m. means paying $35.
- Check the day: the Lake Apopka drive is closed to cars Monday to Thursday (except federal holidays), and the Orlando Wetlands and Rollins Museum of Art close on Mondays.
- Count your hotel’s fees: resort and parking fees often cost more than anything here. Our Orlando vacation cost worksheet helps you add them up.
