The most useful Universal Studios Florida tips come down to timing and a few rules: check whether the park is on a short Halloween Horror Nights day, head to Diagon Alley or Minion Land the moment the gates open, and buy Park-to-Park if you want to ride the Hogwarts Express. Get those right and one well-planned day covers most of the park.

Universal Studios Florida is the original of Universal Orlando’s three theme parks, next door to Islands of Adventure and CityWalk. Universal splits it into eight lands, from Diagon Alley to DreamWorks Land. Several things changed in 2025 and 2026: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Fast & Furious – Supercharged are gone, and a few shows are closed. We checked everything below on Universal Orlando’s official US pages, its hours calendar and its closures list in October 2026.

Quick answer: Check the hours calendar first. On the October 2026 dates we checked, Universal’s calendar showed the park closing at 5 p.m. on some days during the Halloween Horror Nights season, against 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on others. Universal listed no Early Park Admission at Universal Studios Florida, so arrive before opening and ride Gringotts or Minion Mayhem first. Buy Park-to-Park for the Hogwarts Express, use the free ride lockers and Child Swap, and save the shows for the afternoon.

Universal Studios Florida tips by land

Universal lists eight lands. The ride list is shorter than it used to be, so most first-timers can see the headliners in one day.

San Francisco’s ride, Fast & Furious – Supercharged, has closed, and the area next to it is a construction site for Universal’s next coaster (more on that below).

Before you go: tickets, hours and Early Park Admission

  • Pick the right ticket: Universal’s one-day, one-park tickets started at $124.99 plus tax at our last check, and prices change by date. If you want the Hogwarts Express, you need Park-to-Park admission. A one-park ticket for Universal Studios Florida won’t get you on the train.
  • Check the hours for your exact date: Universal’s calendar showed Universal Studios Florida open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 9, 14 and 16, 2026, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 10, during the Halloween Horror Nights season. On October 13, 20 and 27 it showed 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Short days start earlier, so plan your morning around the opening time.
  • Don’t count on early entry here: Universal hotel guests get Early Park Admission up to an hour before opening at select attractions (park ticket required), but Universal picks the parks. Its Early Park Admission page listed “No Upcoming Dates” for Universal Studios Florida, while Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe had early entry from October 5 to November 30, 2026. At Islands of Adventure it covers Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster, Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff and Ollivanders.
  • Use the app: The Universal Orlando Resort app shows wait times and showtimes on a map, and you can place mobile food and drink orders at select restaurants.

If you’re staying at a Universal hotel, a simple plan is to use early entry at Islands of Adventure on one morning and make Universal Studios Florida your “arrive at opening” day. Our guide to Universal Early Park Admission explains who qualifies, and our Islands of Adventure tips cover the other park.

Rope drop: what to ride first

Lines are usually shortest in the first hour, and Universal Studios Florida has two clusters worth heading to. Pick one based on your group:

  1. Harry Potter fans: walk straight to Diagon Alley, behind the London waterfront at the back of the park, and ride Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (42 inches). Then do Revenge of the Mummy and MEN IN BLACK.
  2. Families with small kids: start at Minion Land near the entrance. Ride Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, then head to Trolls Trollercoaster in DreamWorks Land.
  3. Thrill seekers: Revenge of the Mummy (48 inches) and Gringotts are the park’s big indoor thrill rides now that Rip Ride Rockit is retired. Ride both before late morning.

Save the shows, Springfield’s snacks and Diagon Alley’s shops for the hotter middle of the day, when ride waits are longer.

Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express

Diagon Alley is tucked behind the park’s London street front. Inside are Gringotts, the Ollivanders wand shop, the Leaky Cauldron for British food and Butterbeer, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and the Knight Bus parked on the London Embankment. Universal also sells interactive wands that trigger spell effects in both Harry Potter lands.

Gringotts takes riders from 42 inches (107 cm) and has a test seat. Its ride page lists Single Rider, Child Swap and Universal Express. Loose articles aren’t allowed, so use the free locker at the entrance.

The Hogwarts Express leaves from King’s Cross Station in the London area and runs to Hogsmeade Station in Islands of Adventure. You need Park-to-Park admission, and children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. Universal lists the train as closed on November 4, 2026 only; it plans to reopen on November 5.

Riding the train one way is the most fun way to switch parks, and each direction shows a different story outside the windows. For the other Park-to-Park rules, see our Universal Orlando tips for first-timers.

Universal Studios Florida rides by height

Universal’s height page lists nine height-restricted rides at Universal Studios Florida, and only Revenge of the Mummy needs more than 42 inches. Children under 48 inches ride with a supervising companion aged 14 or older.

RideLandMinimum height
E.T. AdventureHollywood34 in (87 cm)
Trolls TrollercoasterDreamWorks Land36 in (92 cm)
Despicable Me Minion MayhemMinion Land40 in (102 cm)

Escape from GringottsDiagon Alley42 in (107 cm)
MEN IN BLACK Alien AttackWorld Expo42 in (107 cm)
Revenge of the MummyNew York48 in (122 cm)

Villain-Con Minion Blast, Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl and the Hogwarts Express have no minimum height. Guests under 40 inches can still see Minion Mayhem from an adjacent stationary seat. For every ride in all four parks, see our Universal Orlando height requirements guide.

Revenge of the Mummy is an indoor coaster that rushes forwards and backwards in the dark, with fire effects and a plunge into darkness. Universal says it’s best for tweens, teens and adults, and it has a test seat at the entrance.

Express, Single Rider, Child Swap and lockers

  • Universal Express: Express covers every ride in the table above, plus the Hogwarts Express and shows such as The Bourne Stuntacular. The regular pass lets you use each Express line once; Express Unlimited lets you repeat rides at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Universal says in-park Express often sells out, so buy ahead. It isn’t valid at Halloween Horror Nights.
  • Free Express with your room: Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort include Express Unlimited at the two original parks; you show your room key at the Express entrance. Compare them in our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass.
  • Single Rider: Universal says it’s offered at select attractions, based on availability. Gringotts lists it on its ride page; at other rides, look for the sign at the entrance.
  • Child Swap: one adult waits with the children in a designated area while the rest of the group rides, then you trade places. Universal’s ride pages show a Child Swap symbol for Gringotts and TRANSFORMERS, but ask the Team Member at any ride entrance.
  • Lockers: Revenge of the Mummy, MEN IN BLACK and Gringotts have standard ride lockers that are free while you ride; larger ones cost extra. All-day lockers, including family-size ones, are near the park entrance.

Minion Land, Springfield and DreamWorks Land with kids

Minion Land is the busiest family area near the entrance. Beyond its two rides, it has Illumination’s Minion Cafe, the Bake My Day bakery and Minion meet-and-greets at Illumination Theater.

Springfield, U.S.A. pairs The Simpsons Ride (40 inches) with Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl, which has no minimum. Food stops include Krusty Burger, Lard Lad donuts and the Frying Dutchman. At Moe’s Tavern you can order a non-alcoholic Flaming Moe, and Duff Brewery serves beer to guests 21 and older.

DreamWorks Land is the place for preschoolers: Trolls Trollercoaster from 36 inches, Shrek, Fiona and Donkey meet-and-greets, water play at Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp and the musical lily pads of King Harold’s Swamp Symphony. Po Live!, the talking-screen show, has been temporarily closed since October 3, 2026. E.T. Adventure, from 34 inches, is in Hollywood.

Shows, food and the slower afternoon

  • The Bourne Stuntacular: a Hollywood stunt show that mixes live stunts with film. It takes Express and is a good way to sit in air conditioning at midday.
  • CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular: a nighttime show set to Harry Potter, Jurassic World and Jaws scores, with dancing fountains on select nights. Check showtimes in the app.
  • The Blues Brothers Show: a street show in New York.
  • Food: the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley, Louie’s Italian in New York, Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood, Lombard’s Seafood Grille in San Francisco and Minion Cafe all appear on Universal’s land pages. Finnegan’s Bar and Grill has been closed since January 12, 2026; Universal lists its reopening as winter 2026.

What’s closed or changing (October 2026 to 2027)

From Universal’s temporary closures list, ride pages and retired attractions page, checked in October 2026. Dates can change, so check the app before you go.

Universal says the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster is coming in 2027. When we checked, it hadn’t published an opening date or height requirement. Universal’s Express page still lists Fast & Furious – Supercharged among the participating rides, but the ride has gone from the height page and its ride page.

Next door, Volcano Bay closes for maintenance from October 26, 2026, with reopening planned on or before April 1, 2027.

Seasonal events at Universal Studios Florida

  • Halloween Horror Nights: select nights from August 28 to November 1, 2026, with 10 haunted houses. It needs a separate ticket, and daytime Express isn’t valid. On event days the park closes early to day guests (5 p.m. on the dates we checked). Universal doesn’t recommend it for children under 13. Our Halloween in Orlando guide has the remaining dates.
  • Holidays at Universal: November 14, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s runs through Universal Studios Florida, and Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter decorates the Harry Potter lands.
  • Mardi Gras: February 6 to March 27, 2027, with a parade, beads and concerts on select nights. Universal says it’s included with your theme park ticket or annual pass (blockout dates apply); food costs extra.

Frequently asked questions

What should I ride first at Universal Studios Florida?

Head for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts in Diagon Alley if everyone is 42 inches or taller, then Revenge of the Mummy and MEN IN BLACK. With small children, start at Minion Land near the entrance with Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Villain-Con Minion Blast, then walk to Trolls Trollercoaster. Shows and shopping can wait until midday.

Does Universal Studios Florida have Early Park Admission?

Not on the dates we checked. Universal’s Early Park Admission page listed no upcoming dates for Universal Studios Florida, while Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe had early entry from October 5 to November 30, 2026. Universal chooses the parks, so check the hours calendar for each day of your trip. On a Universal Studios day, plan to arrive before the regular opening instead.

Do you need Park-to-Park to ride the Hogwarts Express?

Yes. Universal requires Park-to-Park admission, or an annual pass that covers both parks, to board the Hogwarts Express between King’s Cross Station in Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade Station in Islands of Adventure. Children under 48 inches need a supervising companion. The train is closed on November 4, 2026 only and reopens on November 5.

Is Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit still open?

No. Universal now lists Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit on its retired attractions page as closed in 2025. Fast & Furious – Supercharged has also closed, and Universal says a new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster is coming in 2027. For now, the park’s big thrill rides are Escape from Gringotts and Revenge of the Mummy, plus the family Trolls Trollercoaster.

Can you do Universal Studios Florida in one day?

Yes, for most visitors. The park has nine height-restricted rides plus a few rides with no minimum and several shows. Arrive before opening, ride the headliners first and use the app for wait times. On Halloween Horror Nights dates the park closes early to day guests, so pick a regular day, or buy Express, if you want more time.

Bottom line

The best Universal Studios Florida tips are about timing: check the hours calendar for short event days, arrive before opening because Universal isn’t listing early entry here at the moment, and ride Gringotts or the Minion Land rides first. Buy Park-to-Park for the Hogwarts Express, travel light for the lockers and keep the closures in mind. For the shortest walk and free Express at both original parks, check Hard Rock Hotel for your dates.
