Hard Rock Hotel Orlando is the Universal Orlando hotel closest to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and one of only three where your room key doubles as free Universal Express Unlimited at both parks. Officially Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando (some booking sites list it as Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel) and run by Loews Hotels, it has 650 rooms around a 12,000-square-foot pool with a 260-foot waterslide.
That makes it one of the most efficient bases for a short Universal trip, but the perks have limits. Express doesn’t work at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay, parking costs extra every night, and standard two-queen rooms need a rollaway (or a shared bed) for a fifth guest. Facts below come from Loews and Universal pages checked in October 2026; fees and perks change, so confirm current terms before you book.
Quick answer: Book Hard Rock Hotel if you plan two or more days at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure and want free Express plus a walk to the parks and CityWalk. Families of five should book the Deluxe 2-Queen room or the Future Rock Star Kids’ Suite. If Epic Universe is your priority, Universal Helios Grand Hotel is the better base; for the same Express perk in a calmer setting, compare Loews Portofino Bay and Loews Royal Pacific.

- Pool: 12,000 sq ft with a 260-foot slide, underwater speakers, a sand beach, two hot tubs and a kids’ fountain area.

How free Express Unlimited works at Hard Rock Hotel
Universal Express Unlimited lets you use a separate, usually shorter line at participating rides as many times as you like. At Hard Rock it comes free for every registered guest, for the whole stay. Only Hard Rock, Loews Portofino Bay and Loews Royal Pacific include it; our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass compares the three.
- Where it works: Participating rides at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, including select Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions, during regular hours. Not at Epic Universe, Volcano Bay or separately ticketed events.
- When: From the moment your key is issued until the parks close on check-out day, so arrival and departure days both count.
- How: Show your room key at the Express entrance. Direct Loews bookings linked to a Universal Account can use mobile check-in in the Universal Orlando Resort app and get Express passes there, though you still pick up keys at a dedicated line.
- Value: At the time of writing, Loews puts it at $199.99 per person per day, based on a rounded weighted average of 2-Park Express Unlimited prices, which vary by date.
A family of four with two park days gets eight person-days of Express it would otherwise have to buy, so compare the room-rate gap with cheaper hotels against what Express would cost for your dates.
Early Park Admission and other on-site perks
Like every Universal hotel, Hard Rock includes Early Park Admission: select attractions open to you up to one hour early, with a park ticket and your room key. Universal picks the parks each day from Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay (weather permitting) and Epic Universe. Our Universal Early Park Admission guide explains how to plan around it.
| Perk | Where it applies | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Express Unlimited | Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure | Not Epic Universe or Volcano Bay |
| Early Park Admission | Parks Universal picks each day, Epic included | Select attractions, up to 1 hour |
| Priority Seating | Select park and CityWalk restaurants | Book via the concierge; not guaranteed |
| Room charging | Across the resort | Use your room key card |
| Hotel delivery | Select Universal-owned park shops | Ends 5 p.m.; not on check-out day |
Getting to the parks from Hard Rock Hotel
Location is Hard Rock’s other big advantage. Orlando Informer, a long-running Universal planning site, ranks it as the closest resort to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and walking paths link it to CityWalk and both park entrances. Expect a short walk plus security screening; Islands of Adventure is a few minutes farther through CityWalk.

| Destination | How to get there | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CityWalk and the two original parks | Walk, or free water taxi to CityWalk | Water taxi rides average under 10 minutes, per Universal |
| Epic Universe | Free shuttle bus | Universal lists a bus about every 30 minutes; check current schedules |
| Volcano Bay | Free shuttle bus | No water taxi to the water park |
| Walt Disney World | Car or rideshare | No Disney shuttle; Disney parking $35 a day at the time of writing |
| Orlando International Airport | Rideshare, taxi or Destination MCO car | No free airport shuttle |
Epic Universe is the weak spot: you ride a bus, Express doesn’t apply, and Early Park Admission is your main on-site edge. If Epic is the priority, Universal Helios Grand Hotel has its own park entrance but no free Express. On Universal-only days you may not need a car at all, which also saves the nightly parking charge.
Rooms and suites at Hard Rock Hotel Orlando
All rooms are non-smoking and have free Wi-Fi, a mini refrigerator, a coffee maker, a laptop-size safe and 300-thread-count cotton linens; most have dual sinks. Standard, Garden View and Pool View rooms are all 375 square feet with two queens, so you pay for the view, not more space. Accessible rooms offer a tub with grab bars or a roll-in shower.

| Room type | Size | Beds | Sleeps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard, Garden View, Pool View | 375 sq ft | 2 queens | 5 with a rollaway |
| Deluxe King | 400 sq ft | King + sleeper sofa | 4 |
| Deluxe 2-Queen | 500 sq ft | 2 queens + sleeper sofa | 5 |
| Rock Royalty Club Room | 375 sq ft | King + sofa, or 2 queens | 4 to 5 |
| Future Rock Star Kids’ Suite | 800 sq ft | King + 2 twins + sleeper sofa | 5 |
| King Suite | 650 sq ft | King + sleeper sofa | 4 |
| 2-Bedroom King Suite | 1,025 sq ft | King + 2 queens + sleeper sofa | 8 or 9 (Loews’ pages differ) |
Families of five
A standard room lists a maximum of five but has only two queen beds, so a fifth guest needs a rollaway ($35 plus tax per day at the time of writing, one per room, first come, first served) or must share a bed. If you need a guaranteed fifth bed, book the Deluxe 2-Queen with its sleeper sofa instead. Loews also charges $55 for each adult beyond two in a room; Pack ‘n Plays are free. For more layouts, see our guide to rooms that sleep 5 or 6 at Disney World and Universal.
Future Rock Star Kids’ Suite
This 800-square-foot suite pairs a king bedroom with a kids’ room with two twin beds under a starlight canopy, connected through a “stage door.” Loews describes an in-room stage with “liquid” flooring and lights, plus music memorabilia. Bedding is a king, two twins and a sleeper sofa, for a listed maximum of five; a club-level version adds lounge access.

Rock Royalty club level
Rock Royalty club rooms and suites include a private lounge. Loews currently lists continental breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres and personal concierge service; older hotel pages also mention evening beer and wine, sweets and cabana discounts, so confirm current offerings and hours. Club rooms are the same 375 square feet as standard rooms, so you are paying for the lounge.
Pool, fitness and things to do
The pool is the centerpiece: 12,000 square feet with a 260-foot waterslide, an underwater sound system, a sand beach, two hot tubs, a sand volleyball court and an interactive fountain area for younger children.

Poolside activities include ping pong, water balloon tosses, pool basketball and crafts, with Concert Nights and DJ Days in season. Rentable cabanas come with a ceiling fan, TV, refrigerator, Wi-Fi and drink service. The free bodyrock fitness center has cardio machines, free weights, and steam and sauna rooms, and the concierge can map out 1.5- and 3.8-mile jogging loops. Cats and dogs are welcome, up to two per room, for a one-time $150 fee per stay at the time of writing.
Dining, the Velvet Bar and music perks
- The Palm: Steakhouse known for prime cuts and Nova Scotia lobster, plus Italian specialties; reservations recommended.
- The Kitchen: Casual American restaurant for breakfast, burgers and mac and cheese.
- Emack & Bolio’s Marketplace: Grab-and-go breakfast, Starbucks coffee, sandwiches, pizza and ice cream; the quickest breakfast before an early park start.
- beachclub: Poolside bar and grill, open daily.
- Velvet Bar: Lobby cocktail lounge with outdoor seating on The Veranda.
- In-room dining: Available 24 hours a day.

Velvet Sessions, a rock ‘n’ roll cocktail party with live music, takes over the Velvet Bar and lobby on the last Thursday of each month except November and December; tickets are sold in advance through Eventbrite. The Sound of Your Stay program also lends guests a Fender guitar with amp and headphones, or a Crosley turntable with 10 records of their choice, at no charge. Schedules change, and CityWalk’s restaurants are a short walk away.
Fees and policies to budget for
No daily resort fee appears in Loews’ published charges, so parking is the main extra. Confirm the final total on the booking screen before you pay.
| Charge | At the time of writing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resort fee | None listed | Check the booking total |
| Self-parking | $36 + tax per night | Per vehicle |
| Valet parking | $45 + tax per night | Per vehicle |
| Rollaway | $35 + tax per day | One per room, first come |
| Extra adult | $55 | Each adult beyond two |
| Pets | $150 per stay | Up to two cats or dogs |
Under Loews’ standard policy, cancellation is free until six days before arrival; within five days you pay one night plus tax, and checking out early forfeits the deposit. Rates sold on Booking.com or other sites can carry different terms, so read the policy on your reservation.
Best for and not ideal for
Best for: two or more days at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure with free Express and a walk to the gates; families who will use a big pool with a slide and sand beach; couples and groups who want CityWalk’s restaurants and nightlife on foot; and music fans.
Not ideal for: trips built around Epic Universe; Disney-heavy itineraries, since there’s no Disney shuttle; tight budgets, as Hard Rock sits in Universal’s top-priced Signature Collection and parking adds $36 or more a night; and anyone after a quiet retreat.

Tips for booking and staying at Hard Rock Hotel
- Book with the app in mind: Mobile check-in and Express passes in the Universal app need a direct Loews booking linked to a Universal Account. Other bookings get Express on the room key at the front desk.
- Use your arrival day: Express starts when your key is issued, so arriving early can make check-in day a park day. Ask whether keys can be issued before your room is ready.
- Put Express days at the original parks: Use your hotel nights for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and Early Park Admission at Epic Universe. Leave time for the bus.
