The closest hotels near Wekiwa Springs are two brand hotels on State Road 436 in Apopka, about 3.5 miles from the park entrance. Apart from campsites, four glamping tents and a group youth camp, there is nowhere to sleep inside the park, so most visitors stay in Apopka, Altamonte Springs or Lake Mary and drive in for the morning.

Wekiwa Springs State Park is one of the easiest nature days from Orlando: a 72-degree spring you can swim in all year, a kayak run and miles of trails, about 18 road miles from downtown. The catch: every day-use visitor needs a reservation, and summer slots go fast.

Below are seven hotels we checked against their brand pages, with road distances, the park rules that matter and the nearby tubing spring at Kelly Park.

Quick answer: For the shortest drive, book the Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando-Apopka (free hot breakfast, pets allowed) or the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Orlando – Apopka next door (free breakfast, room for trucks and trailers), both about 8 minutes from the gate. If you want a suite with breakfast and a lake walk at night, the Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando North in Altamonte Springs is about 15 minutes away. Reserve your park entry before you book anything.

That clear, shallow basin is why most people come, and why the park fills up on summer days.

Wekiwa Springs State Park in 2026: rules to know before you book

These rules come from the park’s official Florida State Parks pages, checked in October 2026:

  • Reservations are required. Since September 2, 2025, every day-use visitor needs a reservation, including annual passholders. You can book up to 60 days ahead, or the same day until the limit is reached, and each day needs its own reservation. The entry fee is paid online and there is no booking fee.
  • Fees: $6 per vehicle (up to eight people), $4 for a single-occupant vehicle, and $2 for pedestrians, cyclists and extra passengers.
  • Hours: 8 a.m. to sundown, 365 days a year. The swimming area closes 30 minutes before the park does.
  • Leaving and coming back: ask the ranger station for a re-entry ticket before you drive out; without it you can’t get back in.
  • Refunds: the fee is refunded if you cancel; no-shows are not refunded.
  • Address: 1800 Wekiwa Circle, Apopka, FL 32712; phone 407-553-4348.

The park’s swimming page warns that it reaches capacity in summer and that arriving early “will reduce wait time but not provide entry.” Book your slot first, then the hotel.

How we chose these hotels near Wekiwa Springs

This is not a ranking by review score. We kept hotels that:

  • Are close: all within about 13 road miles of the park entrance on Wekiwa Circle (OSRM routing, no traffic).
  • Publish their policies on a brand page; archived copies are dated.
  • Are bookable on Booking.com, with photos from each property’s own gallery.
  • Cover different trips: breakfast hotels, on-site dining, suites and an upscale stay.

Hotels are listed from closest to farthest. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

How to choose: Apopka, Altamonte Springs or Lake Mary?

  • Apopka is closest. The Hampton and the Holiday Inn Express are about 8 minutes from the gate and both include breakfast; the Hilton Garden Inn is our closest pick to Kelly Park.
  • Altamonte Springs gives you restaurants, the Altamonte Mall and the Cranes Roost Lake boardwalk within 15 to 17 minutes of the park. Our guide to the best hotels in Altamonte Springs covers five more options there.
  • Lake Mary suits travelers flying into Orlando Sanford (SFB) or combining the springs with business; see our Lake Mary hotels guide.
  • Inside the park there are 60 campsites with hookups ($24 per night plus tax, a $6.70 reservation fee and, for RVs, a $7 nightly utility fee) and, new for 2026, four concession-run glamping tents sleeping up to three (no pets). At last check the concession site said the traditional campsites were “closed for season” and Florida State Parks flagged campground construction, so check availability first.
  • Taxes: Apopka hotels are in Orange County (12.5% hotel tax); Altamonte Springs and Lake Mary are in Seminole County (12%).

Planning your day at Wekiwa Springs

The swimming area is just over half an acre and about four feet deep on average, fed by a spring that Florida State Parks says pushes out about 43 million gallons a day (its history page says 42 million). There are no lifeguards, diving and jumping are banned, and only individual-size floats are allowed.

  • Swim early. Arrive at the 8 a.m. opening for the quietest lawn and the easiest parking. Grills, pop-up tents and canopies aren’t allowed on the spring lawn, but two picnic pavilions can be rented for $75 a day.
  • Paddle the run. The park concession, Wekiwa Springs Adventures, rents canoes, kayaks and paddleboards; at last check, rentals started at 8 a.m. with the last one out at 5 p.m. Rental guests can reserve one of 50 parking spots and pay the park fee in the same checkout. Swimming isn’t allowed in the run or the river.
  • Hike or ride. Trails run from 0.8 to 13.5 miles, plus a 9-mile off-road bike trail. Black bears live here, so follow the bear-aware rules.
  • Bring the dog only for the trails. Leashed pets are welcome on trails and in use areas, but not in the swimming area.

Kelly Park and Rock Springs: the tubing alternative

Frequently asked questions

What is the closest hotel to Wekiwa Springs State Park?

The closest hotels we found are the Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando-Apopka and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Orlando – Apopka, side by side off SR 436, both about 3.5 miles and 8 minutes by road from the park entrance. Inside the park you can only camp or book one of four glamping tents.

Do you need a reservation for Wekiwa Springs?

Yes. Since September 2, 2025, every day-use visitor needs a reservation, including annual passholders. You can book up to 60 days ahead, or on the same day until the limit is reached, and the $6 vehicle fee is paid online with no booking fee. Camping and concession bookings, such as a kayak rental, also count as entry.

Can you swim at Wekiwa Springs year-round?

Yes. The spring stays at about 72 degrees all year, and the swimming area is open from 8 a.m. until 30 minutes before the park closes at sundown. There are no lifeguards, the average depth is about four feet, and diving, jumping and scuba gear are not allowed. Swimming is not permitted in Wekiwa Springs Run, Rock Springs Run or the Wekiva River.

Can you rent kayaks at Wekiwa Springs?

Yes. The park concession, Wekiwa Springs Adventures, rents canoes, kayaks and paddleboards inside the park; at last check, the first rental went out at 8 a.m. and the last at 5 p.m. Booking a rental can include one of 50 reserved parking spots and your $6 entry. Be ready to carry the boat up and down a slope on uneven ground to reach the water.

Is Kelly Park the same as Wekiwa Springs?

No. Kelly Park/Rock Springs is an Orange County park about 8 miles (20 minutes) northwest, known for tubing a short spring run. It sells online tickets only, up to 30 days ahead, with a daily limit of 280, for $5 per vehicle. A Wekiwa reservation does not get you into Kelly Park, and Kelly Park does not allow pets.

How far is Wekiwa Springs from Disney World?

By road, the park entrance is about 35 miles from the Magic Kingdom parking plaza, roughly an hour without traffic, and about 19 miles (around 40 minutes) from Universal’s garages. Downtown Orlando is about 17.5 miles away. Rush-hour traffic on I-4 can add a lot of time, so plan to travel early.

Bottom line

For the shortest drive and breakfast included, book the Hampton Inn & Suites or the Holiday Inn Express in Apopka; for suites and an indoor pool, the Embassy Suites in Altamonte Springs; for a dinner-on-site evening, the Westin in Lake Mary. Whichever you pick, reserve your Wekiwa entry first and aim for the 8 a.m. opening.
