The best Halloween Horror Nights hotels are the ones you can walk or ride a boat back to when the event lets out: Universal’s own hotels around CityWalk, plus one off-site Hilton about a mile away. Halloween Horror Nights 2026 runs on select nights through November 1 at Universal Studios Florida, and it runs late, so the trip back matters more than the pool.

Staying on-site adds a dedicated event gate, an event bar and free boats and buses, but the free Universal Express at three hotels doesn’t work at the event, and Stay & Scream’s early houses aren’t a hotel perk.

This page covers hotels and logistics; for Orlando’s other Halloween events, see our Halloween in Orlando 2026 guide. Universal’s pages were checked in October 2026, Hilton’s via an April 2026 archived copy.

Quick answer: For the shortest walk back, book Hard Rock Hotel (about 9 minutes on foot from the Universal Studios Florida entrance) or Loews Royal Pacific Resort (about 13). Both include free Universal Express Unlimited for daytime rides, though not at the event. Portofino Bay and Sapphire Falls add a water taxi, Cabana Bay is the value pick at about 26 minutes on foot, and the DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal is the off-site hotel you can walk from (about 22 minutes).

Halloween Horror Nights 2026: dates and hours that shape your stay

Universal’s 35th Halloween Horror Nights runs on select nights from August 28 to November 1, 2026: Wednesdays through Sundays, plus Monday, October 12. As of October 14, the nights left are October 14–18, 21–25 and 28–31, plus Sunday, November 1; Premium Scream Night on October 19 is a separate, sold-out ticket. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Universal’s calendars list it until 2 a.m., though its ticket terms say closing times vary, and Universal suggests arriving at least an hour early.

  • Universal Studios Florida closes early to day guests. Universal’s hours calendar shows it open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on every remaining event night, while Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe stay open until 8 p.m. on most of those nights.
  • CityWalk stays open late. The calendar lists CityWalk until 2 a.m. on event nights, and Universal says standard parking fees apply until 2 a.m.
  • It’s a separate ticket. Day tickets and annual passes don’t get you in (Premier Passholders can reserve one free night). Universal doesn’t recommend the event for kids under 13, it runs rain or shine, and costumes and costume masks aren’t allowed.

Universal hadn’t announced 2027 dates at the time of writing. The 2026 tickets were on sale by late March (BlogMickey reported it on March 26, 2026), so watch Universal’s event page from early spring.

What Universal hotel guests get at Halloween Horror Nights

  • A dedicated event entrance: show your room key card and event ticket at a designated gate at Universal Studios Florida from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. It isn’t offered on Premium Scream Night (August 27 and October 19).
  • The Keyholder Bar: an event bar with cocktails and mocktails for purchase, open to Universal hotel guests, Annual and Seasonal Passholders and Universal Rewards cardmembers with event admission. Space is first come, first served, and you must be 21 or older with photo ID to buy alcohol.
  • Free transportation: buses to the theme parks and CityWalk from every Universal hotel, plus water taxis from four of them.
  • Halloween touches: themed lobbies and photo spots, specialty drinks and late-night food at select hotels.

The Universal Express Unlimited included at Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific and Loews Portofino Bay excludes separately ticketed events, though it’s still valuable by day at Universal Studios Florida before the 5 p.m. close and at Islands of Adventure (see our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass). Early Park Admission is a morning perk, running through November 30 at Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, not Universal Studios Florida. And anyone with the right tickets can use Stay & Scream.

Universal’s terms tie the gate and bar to a valid room key card and say nothing about where you booked, but the packages further down are sold only by Universal. If you book your room on Booking.com, buy event tickets separately and confirm perks at check-in.

Stay & Scream, Scream Early and other add-ons

The early haunted house openings are the closest thing to early entry at the event, and they work the same whether you sleep on-site or not.

Stay & Scream wristbands are handed out near Guest Services inside Universal Studios Florida from park opening, and the first three houses are Stranger Things 5, Hellraiser and Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control. It isn’t available on Premium Scream Night.

For several nights, the Frequent Fear Pass covers mostly Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, Frequent Fear Plus adds Fridays and October 31, and the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass covers every regular night from your start date, with free self-parking after 5 p.m. Online prices were $274.99, $324.99 and $449.99 plus tax at the time of writing. For daytime strategy, see our Universal Studios Florida tips.

Halloween Horror Nights hotel packages from Universal

  • Hotel & Ticket Package: hotel, event admission and daytime park tickets, with savings that grow with the stay (Universal advertises up to $300 on seven nights, on select dates). A Florida Resident version is also sold.
  • 1-Night Hotel & Ticket Package: one night’s stay plus one event night, bought in advance; handy if you’re driving in. Universal’s offer card calls it “Stay and Scream,” not to be confused with the in-park Stay & Scream.
  • Passholder Stay and Scream Package: hotel, one event night and a commemorative pin per person, booked by phone with a valid pass.

Room-only offers include up to 30% off stays of five nights or more and Sunday-to-Thursday discounts for Florida residents and Passholders. All of these apply only when you book with Universal; a Booking.com rate doesn’t include event tickets, so add them yourself. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Getting back to your hotel after Halloween Horror Nights

Universal’s hotel FAQ says transportation starts an hour before Early Park Admission but gives no finishing time. On Universal’s own blog, its guest team told a reader in 2024 that resort shuttles run both ways until CityWalk fully closes, which the calendar lists as 2 a.m. on event nights. Ask your front desk for the last boat and bus.

Walks are OpenStreetMap foot routes from the Universal Studios Florida entrance to each lobby (October 2026), without crowds or stops. Parking rates were current at the time of writing (Hilton’s, at last check).

Water taxis serve only Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific and Sapphire Falls, with an average ride under 10 minutes per Universal’s blog. Buses link every Universal hotel to the CityWalk hub every 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the hotel, though Universal’s FAQ and blog don’t agree hotel by hotel (Endless Summer: every 15 minutes on the blog, every 30 in the FAQ). The FAQ lists water taxis every 30 minutes.

Off-site, rideshare and taxi pick-up is in Universal’s North Parking Garage, with no parking fee. Garage self-parking is $35 including tax, and the usual free parking after 6 p.m. doesn’t apply on event nights. One Universal offer page mentions free self-parking after midnight on event nights, which conflicts with the event FAQ, so don’t count on it. Parking at a Universal hotel as a day visitor costs more: $53 plus tax a day.

The 6 best Halloween Horror Nights hotels

We picked these for the walk or ride back, the perks that apply and a spread of budgets; all six are within about 1.2 miles of the Universal Studios Florida entrance on foot.

1. Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando

Hard Rock is the shortest walk back, about 0.4 mile or 9 minutes from the Universal Studios Florida entrance; Universal calls it the closest hotel to both original parks.

Every guest in the room gets Universal Express Unlimited at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure during regular park hours, plus Early Park Admission. Two-queen rooms sleep up to five (the fifth on a rollaway), and overnight self-parking is $36 and valet $45 a night, plus tax. More in our Hard Rock Hotel Orlando review.

See prices and availability at Hard Rock Hotel. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

2. Loews Royal Pacific Resort

Royal Pacific has the same free Express and water taxi as Hard Rock, in a South Seas garden setting. Its path comes out near Islands of Adventure, about half a mile away, which suits an event day: ride Islands of Adventure with Express in the afternoon, then cross CityWalk to the event. Back from the Universal Studios gate it’s about 0.6 mile, roughly 13 minutes.

The trade-off is room size: standard rooms are 335 square feet, the smallest of the three Express hotels. Self-parking is $36 and valet $45 a night, plus tax. See our Loews Royal Pacific Resort review.

Check your dates for Loews Royal Pacific Resort on Booking.com.

3. Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

Portofino Bay is the calm base after a loud night, a re-creation of an Italian seaside village around a harbor, with 450-square-foot standard rooms, the largest of the three Express hotels. It’s also the farthest of the Express hotels from the Universal Studios gate, about 0.8 mile or 18 minutes on foot, so many guests take the water taxi.

Free Express Unlimited and Early Park Admission are included, and self-parking is $36 and valet $45 a night, plus tax. Our Loews Portofino Bay Hotel review goes room by room.

Compare rates for Loews Portofino Bay Hotel.

4. Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

Sapphire Falls has no free Express, so it fits if you’ll buy Halloween Horror Nights Express anyway and can skip Express by day. It keeps the water taxi, and the walk back from the Universal Studios gate is about 0.9 mile, roughly 20 minutes. Universal’s event page shows a guest posing with a candelabra against an eerie mansion backdrop in its lobby.

Standard rooms are 321 square feet, Early Park Admission is included, and self-parking is $36 and valet $45 a night, plus tax. More in our Loews Sapphire Falls Resort guide.

See available rooms at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.

5. Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort

Cabana Bay is the value pick that still lets you walk: paths link it to CityWalk and the parks, and our route from the Universal Studios gate to the lobby is about 1.2 miles, roughly 26 minutes, with free buses as the backup. Universal’s event page shows its lobby themed for the event.

Standard rooms sleep four, and 430-square-foot Family Suites sleep up to six with a kitchenette. Overnight self-parking is $26 plus tax, the lowest of our six picks. Early Park Admission is included; Express isn’t. See our Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort guide.

Check your dates for Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort on Booking.com.

6. DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando

The DoubleTree on Major Boulevard is the off-site hotel where walking back is realistic: about a mile, roughly 22 minutes, to the Universal Studios Florida entrance on sidewalks along Major and Universal Boulevards (Hilton lists CityWalk at 0.5 mile, shorter than any route we found).

It’s a Universal Partner Hotel with a Universal desk in the lobby, but not a Universal hotel, so there’s no event gate, Keyholder Bar access by room key or Early Park Admission, and Hilton says its scheduled shuttle isn’t valid for special events. At last check (Hilton, April 2026), self-parking was $34 and valet $44 a day, no resort fee was listed, and the gelato shop was open until 1 a.m. Read our DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal review.

Other Universal hotels for Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Aventura Hotel also has a walking path, about 1.1 miles or 24 minutes from the Universal Studios gate, with self-parking at $30 plus tax. Universal Endless Summer Resort has no walking path listed, so you’ll ride the bus to and from CityWalk; parking is $26 plus tax.

Check your dates for Universal Aventura Hotel or compare rates for Endless Summer’s Surfside Inn and Suites.

The three hotels by Epic Universe, a few miles south, get the same gate and bar access, but every trip to the event is a bus ride; our guide to hotels near Epic Universe compares them.

How to choose

  • Fastest to bed: Hard Rock Hotel, then Royal Pacific.
  • Big ride days too: one of the three Express hotels, using Express at Universal Studios Florida before 5 p.m. and at Islands of Adventure.
  • A quiet base: Portofino Bay, with the water taxi doing the work.
  • On a budget: Cabana Bay if you’ll walk, Endless Summer if the bus is fine.
  • With teens: a Cabana Bay Family Suite or a Hard Rock two-queen room for five; our guide to Orlando with teens covers rides and rooms.
  • Off-site or driving: the DoubleTree if you’ll walk, otherwise $35 garage parking or a rideshare. See hotels within walking distance of Universal and our full list of hotels near Universal Studios Orlando.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best hotel for Halloween Horror Nights?

Hard Rock Hotel is the closest, about a 9-minute walk from the Universal Studios Florida entrance, with free Universal Express Unlimited for daytime rides. Loews Royal Pacific is about 13 minutes away with the same perk. Cabana Bay is the walkable value pick, and off-site, the DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal is about 22 minutes.

Do Universal hotel guests get early entry to Halloween Horror Nights?

Not early entry, but faster entry: Universal hotel guests can use a dedicated gate at Universal Studios Florida from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with their room key card and event ticket, except on Premium Scream Night. The early houses from 2 p.m. come with Stay & Scream, open to anyone with a same-day Universal Studios ticket plus an event ticket, or a Scream Early Ticket.

Does Universal Express from Hard Rock Hotel work at Halloween Horror Nights?

No. The Universal Express Unlimited included at Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific and Loews Portofino Bay is valid during regular park hours and excludes separately ticketed events. For shorter lines at the event, buy Halloween Horror Nights Express, which gives one Express entry at each of the 10 haunted houses and participating rides, or book an R.I.P. Tour.

How late do Universal hotel shuttles and water taxis run after HHN?

Universal doesn’t publish a closing time for hotel transportation. Its guest team has said on Universal’s blog that resort shuttles run until CityWalk fully closes, and Universal’s calendar lists CityWalk until 2 a.m. on event nights. Confirm the last boat or bus at your front desk before you head out.

Can you walk to Halloween Horror Nights from an off-site hotel?

From the DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal, yes: about a mile, roughly 22 minutes, on sidewalks along Major and Universal Boulevards, and Hilton says its scheduled shuttle isn’t valid for special events. From most other off-site hotels you’ll drive or take a rideshare: garage parking is $35 including tax, and rideshare pick-up is in the North Parking Garage.

Is Halloween Horror Nights OK for teenagers?

Universal warns the event may be too intense for young children and doesn’t recommend it for kids under 13; its daytime Unmasking the Horror tours carry the same warning. Above that age it’s your call; Universal itself calls the houses intensely graphic. A hotel you can walk back to makes leaving early easy.

Bottom line

The best Halloween Horror Nights hotel is the one you can reach at closing time without a car: Hard Rock Hotel or Royal Pacific for the shortest walk and daytime Express, Portofino Bay or Sapphire Falls for the boat, Cabana Bay for value and the DoubleTree off-site. Booking.com stays need separate event tickets; check the last boat and bus. Check your dates for Hard Rock Hotel on Booking.com.
