Disney to Universal transportation is simpler than it first looks: the two resorts are roughly 8 to 16 miles apart by road, depending on the parks, but neither one runs a bus to the other. That leaves four real choices: your own car, Uber or Lyft, a hotel shuttle that serves both resorts, or a LYNX public bus. Which one wins depends on whether you are making a single hop on moving day or crossing between the resorts several times.

Below are road distances to every Disney park, parking at each resort, rideshare pickup zones, the LYNX routes and three hotels with shuttles to both. Fares, schedules and parking rates were checked on official pages in October 2026, so confirm them before you travel.

Quick answer: With a car, the drive takes about 15 to 30 minutes without traffic, and you pay each resort’s own parking ($35 a day for standard parking at both at the time of writing; neither pass works at the other resort). Without a car, Uber or Lyft is the quickest door to door, and the app quotes your fare before you book. On a budget, some LYNX Route 311 trips link Disney Springs with Epic Universe for $2. Disney’s buses and Universal’s hotel shuttles don’t cross over, and Mears Connect only runs airport transfers.

How far is Disney from Universal?

By road, Universal’s main parking garage at 6000 Universal Boulevard, which serves Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay and CityWalk, is about 10 to 11.5 miles from Disney Springs and about 13 to 16 miles from the four Disney theme park lots. Epic Universe, which has its own parking at 1001 Epic Boulevard, sits farther south, so it is about half a mile to 1.7 miles closer to each Disney stop. The figures below are OpenStreetMap road routes, measured both ways to each park’s guest parking entrance (the Transportation and Ticket Center lot for Magic Kingdom).

Disney destinationFrom Universal’s garageFrom Epic UniverseDrive, no traffic
Disney SpringsAbout 10 to 11.5 miAbout 8.5 to 10.5 mi16 to 21 min
EPCOT main lotAbout 13 to 14 miAbout 12 to 12.5 mi22 to 24 min
Hollywood StudiosAbout 13.5 to 14 miAbout 12 to 13 mi25 to 28 min
Animal KingdomAbout 14.5 to 15 miAbout 13 to 14 mi22 to 25 min
Magic Kingdom (TTC lot)About 16 miAbout 14 to 15.5 mi24 to 27 min

Those are free-flow times; I-4 slows at rush hour and when the parks empty at night. Magic Kingdom needs extra time on top: Disney’s courtesy tram runs from the parking lot to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), and from there you take the monorail or ferry to the gate.

Driving between Disney and Universal

A car is the most flexible option if you will cross more than once. Most routes follow I-4 between Disney’s exits and Universal Boulevard. For Epic Universe, the fastest routes usually use a short stretch of SR 528 (the Beachline), Universal Boulevard and Destination Parkway.

I-4’s regular lanes are toll-free, and the tolled I-4 Express lanes begin just west of Kirkman Road (mile marker 75) and run north-east, away from Disney, according to I-4 Express. If your map app suggests a toll road, check how your rental company bills tolls first, or set the app to avoid them.

Parking at each resort

Each resort charges its own fee, and neither resort’s parking page extends its pass to the other’s lots, so visiting both in one day by car means two fees.

ResortStandard parkingValid atGood to know
Walt Disney World theme parks$35 a day, tax includedAll 4 Disney theme parks that dayPreferred $50 to $60; included for Disney Resort hotel guests
Disney SpringsFreeDisney Springs garagesGarages open at 9 a.m. on regular days
Universal Orlando$35, tax includedUniversal’s garages and Epic Universe that dayFree after 6 p.m. on non-HHN nights, not at Epic

Universal lets you leave and come back the same day, or switch between its main garage and Epic Universe, if you show your parking receipt or QR code with a photo ID at the toll plaza. Its free self-parking after 6 p.m. does not apply on Halloween Horror Nights event nights (select nights through November 1, 2026), on December 31 or at Epic Universe. Disney warns that paying does not guarantee a space if you leave and return or switch parks. Our guide to Orlando theme park parking compares every lot, including SeaWorld.

Uber, Lyft and taxis between the resorts

There is no fixed Uber or Lyft fare between Disney and Universal. Each trip is priced by distance, time and demand, and both apps show an upfront price or fare estimate before you confirm, so the only reliable estimate is the one in the app for your exact pickup point and time. To keep it down:

  • Compare both apps: enter the same pickup and drop-off in Uber and Lyft and book the lower quote.
  • Check again at departure: fares can climb when demand spikes, such as at park closing.
  • Size the car: five or more people, or a stroller and bags, need a larger vehicle class.

At Universal, ride-app and taxi drop-offs and pickups use a dedicated area with no parking fee: the North Parking Garage at 6000 Universal Boulevard for Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay and CityWalk, and 1201 Epic Boulevard for Epic Universe. Follow the Ride App Drop-Off/Pick-Up signs.

At Magic Kingdom, regular rideshare cars drop you at the front entrance of the TTC, not the park gate, and you continue by monorail or ferry, according to the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, which we compare in our Swan vs Dolphin vs Swan Reserve guide. It warns that this transfer can add 45 minutes to over an hour and says Disney’s Minnie Vans, booked in the Lyft app, can use designated Disney drop-off points. Disney says they serve only select locations within Walt Disney World, so they can’t take you to Universal.

Shuttles: what runs between Disney and Universal, and what doesn’t

None of the big resort transportation systems crosses between the two resorts:

  • Disney transportation: buses, monorails, boats and the Skyliner are a benefit for guests of select Disney Resort hotels and stay within Walt Disney World. No luggage of any kind is allowed on Disney buses.
  • Universal hotel shuttles: Universal’s complimentary hotel transportation covers its four theme parks and CityWalk.
  • Mears Connect: the shared shuttle runs between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Walt Disney World, Disney Springs and other Disney-area resorts, not park to park. Mears also offers private car service (Mears Luxe) to hotels, resorts and attractions.
  • Off-site hotel shuttles: a few independent hotels run scheduled buses to both resorts, usually a few times a day. Three are profiled below, and our list of Orlando hotels with shuttles to Universal and Disney covers the rest.

On moving day for a split stay, a rideshare or taxi is the easiest way to move your bags. If you reach a Universal hotel before your room is ready, Universal says you can check in, leave your belongings with luggage services and take the free shuttle to the parks.

Public transit: LYNX buses from Disney Springs to Universal

LYNX, the regional bus system, is the cheapest link, at $2 a ride (a transfer within 90 minutes is free, and an all-day pass is $4.50 at the time of writing). Express Routes 311 and 350 both stop at the Disney Springs transfer center, on East Buena Vista Drive at Bonnet Creek Parkway, which is their only Disney stop in LYNX’s timetables.

On LYNX’s weekday timetable at the time of writing, 13 of the 34 eastbound Route 311 trips stop at LYNX’s Epic Universe transfer center; the morning Disney Springs departures that serve Epic were 8:15, 9:20 and 10:20 a.m. For Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure or CityWalk, ride Route 311 or 350 to the Destination Parkway stop, then Route 38 (about every 30 minutes, about 20 minutes) to Universal Boulevard at Hollywood Way, beside Universal’s garages and roughly a half-mile walk or a little more from CityWalk. LYNX’s Disney Direct Route 303 also makes one trip a day each way between that stop and Disney Springs (about 6:40 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at last check).

Weekend timetables differ, so check golynx.com before you go. The I-RIDE Trolley doesn’t help here: it runs along International Drive and nearby boulevards and doesn’t reach Walt Disney World. For more car-free strategies, see our guide to getting around Orlando without a car.

Timing tips: early entry, parking and doing both in one day

Each resort saves its morning head start for its own hotel guests:

  • Disney Early Theme Park Entry: 30 minutes early at the Disney theme parks every day of your stay for guests of Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels, a benefit Disney says continues through 2027. Valid park admission is required.
  • Universal Early Park Admission: up to one hour early at select attractions for Universal hotel guests and other select groups. From October 5 to November 30, 2026, Universal lists it at Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, with no upcoming dates at Universal Studios Florida. Our Universal Early Park Admission guide explains how it works.
  • Both resorts in one day: you need two separate tickets and, if you drive, two parking fees ($70 for standard parking at the time of writing). A Disney morning followed by a Universal evening can avoid the second fee, because Universal’s self-parking is free after 6 p.m. on non-HHN nights at its main garage.

If you’re still deciding how to split your days, our Disney vs Universal comparison looks at tickets, rides and ages, and our guide on where to stay for Disney and Universal weighs a split stay against one central base.

Where to stay between Disney and Universal

If you’d rather not move hotels, a base with shuttles to both resorts can stand in for a rental car. None of these three is on Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry list, and as off-site hotels they don’t include Universal’s Early Park Admission unless your ticket or package does. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Hilton Orlando

Hilton Orlando, at 6001 Destination Parkway next to the Orange County Convention Center, is one of the few large resorts with rides to both: a complimentary Universal shuttle booked in person at the lobby’s Universal Vacation Planning Desk, and a scheduled Magic Kingdom and EPCOT shuttle that is included in the resort charge (reservations required). Our Hilton Orlando review covers the pools and rooms.

  • Distances by road: about 2 miles to Epic Universe, 5.5 to Universal’s main garage, 6.5 to Disney Springs, 10 to EPCOT and 12.5 to the Magic Kingdom TTC lot (the hotel says Epic is under a mile away).
  • Disney shuttle: the operator, Fabulous Buses, lists two morning departures and two afternoon or evening returns, bookable up to 48 hours ahead with a promo code from the front desk; seats are limited. Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are not served.
  • Universal shuttle: the hotel’s transportation page says it serves “all three” Universal theme parks, while its Universal page says all four, including Epic Universe, so confirm Epic runs at the desk.
  • Fees: a $47 daily resort charge plus tax, and self-parking at $38 plus tax a night, at the time of writing.

Avanti International Resort

Avanti International Resort, at 8738 International Drive near ICON Park, bundles its shuttles into a smaller fee: the $18-plus-tax daily resort fee covers scheduled shuttles to Universal, the Walt Disney World theme parks, SeaWorld and Aquatica, plus self-parking and Wi-Fi. Our Avanti International Resort review has the room and pool details.

  • Distances by road: about 3 to 3.5 miles to Universal’s garage, 3 to Epic Universe, 8 to Disney Springs, 12 to EPCOT and 14 to the Magic Kingdom TTC lot.
  • Disney shuttle: run by SSS Luxury Transportation. Its booking system showed, for October 22, 2026: EPCOT at 9:20 and 11:50 a.m. (returns 6:30 and 10:30 p.m.), Animal Kingdom at 9:20 a.m. (return 6 p.m.) and Hollywood Studios at 11:50 a.m. (return 6:15 p.m.), with no Magic Kingdom run.
  • Booking rules: the resort asks for Disney reservations 3 hours ahead, while the operator’s form says same-day bookings close 2 hours before departure; Universal seats are reserved in person up to 24 hours ahead. No luggage is allowed on the Disney shuttle.

Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista

Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista, at 8442 Palm Parkway, sits on the Disney side but runs free scheduled shuttles to both resorts, charges no resort fee and lists self-parking at $10 a night, tax included, up to $50 a stay. Our comparison of the four Rosen Inns covers its rooms and pools.

  • Universal and Epic Universe: departures at 7:05 and 11:15 a.m., with returns at 5:40 and 7:15 p.m. from Universal and 6 and 7:35 p.m. from Epic, on the posted schedule.
  • Disney: Hollywood Studios at 9:25 and 11:30 a.m. (one return at 4:15 p.m.), EPCOT at 10:35 a.m. (return 10:15 p.m.) and Disney Springs at 5:10 p.m. (return 11:05 p.m.). Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are not served.
  • Good to know: the hotel information page says seats are first come, first served, but the FAQ says reservations are required, so ask Guest Services. The hotel’s homepage puts Universal 9 miles away and its FAQ 7 miles; by road it is about 7.5 to 8 miles to Universal’s garage and 2 miles to Disney Springs.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Universal Studios from Disney World?

By road, Universal’s main parking garage is about 10 to 11.5 miles from Disney Springs, 13 to 14 miles from EPCOT’s main lot and about 16 miles from Magic Kingdom’s Transportation and Ticket Center lot. Epic Universe is about half a mile to 1.7 miles closer. Without traffic, the drives take roughly 16 to 28 minutes, but rush hour on I-4 and park closing times can add a lot more.

Is there a shuttle from Disney World to Universal Studios?

Not from either resort. Disney’s buses stay within Walt Disney World, Universal’s hotel shuttles serve only Universal’s parks and CityWalk, and Mears Connect only runs between the airport and Disney-area resorts. Some independent hotels, such as Hilton Orlando, Avanti International Resort and Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista, run scheduled shuttles to both, usually just a few times a day.

How much is an Uber from Disney to Universal?

There is no fixed price. Uber and Lyft price each ride by distance, time and demand, and show an upfront price or fare estimate in the app before you confirm. Enter your exact pickup and drop-off in both apps, book the lower quote, and check again when you are ready to leave, because fares can rise when a park closes.

Can you take a public bus from Disney to Universal?

Yes, with patience. Some LYNX Route 311 trips run from Disney Springs to the Epic Universe transfer center in about 25 to 30 minutes for $2. For Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure or CityWalk, ride Route 311 or 350 to Destination Parkway and transfer to Route 38, which stops beside Universal’s garages. Allow an hour or more, and check weekend schedules.

Can you do Disney and Universal on the same day?

You can, but you need a ticket for each resort and, if you drive, two parking fees ($35 each for standard parking at the time of writing). A Disney morning and a Universal evening works well, because Universal’s main garage offers free self-parking after 6 p.m., except on Halloween Horror Nights event nights and December 31. Allow about an hour door to door for the crossing.

Bottom line

For most families, Disney to Universal transportation comes down to a car for repeated crossings, Uber or Lyft for a single hop or moving day, and LYNX Route 311 for a budget run between Disney Springs and Epic Universe. Budget $35 a day for each resort’s parking, an hour for the crossing, and a hotel shuttle only if your hotel actually serves both. If you want one base without a car, compare rates for Hilton Orlando or one of the other two hotels above.
