The best hotels in Winter Park Florida put you within walking distance of Park Avenue’s shops and sidewalk cafes, the Rollins College campus and the Morse Museum, while Universal Orlando is about 15 miles away (roughly 25 to 35 minutes by car) and the Walt Disney World parks are 22 to 27 miles away (about 40 minutes or more). Winter Park is a leafy, older city just north of Orlando, and it works well for couples, college visits, weddings, art lovers and anyone who wants real restaurants within walking distance after a park day.
Winter Park is not a resort area, though. Hotels here are small or mid-sized, none of the ones below lists a theme park shuttle, and you will want a car (or rideshare) for Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. This guide compares seven hotels in Winter Park and next-door Maitland, with official parking costs, breakfast, pools and pet rules.
Quick answer: For the classic Winter Park stay, book The Alfond Inn, the art-filled hotel owned by Rollins College, one block from Park Avenue. If you want to sleep right on Park Avenue in a 1920s building, choose the 28-room Park Plaza Hotel. Families get the best value at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Winter Park (all suites, free hot breakfast) or Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando-Maitland (kitchens, free breakfast, a pool and pets allowed). If you want a bigger hotel with a heated pool and several restaurants, look at the Sheraton Orlando North in Maitland.

How we chose these Winter Park hotels
We looked at hotels inside Winter Park (Park Avenue, the Rollins area and the Orlando Avenue corridor) and a few in Maitland, the next town north, that are a short drive from Park Avenue. For each one we checked parking prices, breakfast, pools, pet rules and check-in age on the hotel’s own website or its official Hilton or Marriott page. Brand pages often block automated access, so for some we used archived copies of the official pages from late 2025 and 2026; we say “at last check” where that applies. Distances and drive times come from the hotels’ own pages or from an OSRM route check in October 2026; those are light-traffic estimates, so allow extra time for I-4. We did not stay at these hotels, and we do not publish scores, ratings or fixed prices.

1. The Alfond Inn

The Alfond Inn is the hotel most people picture when they think of staying in Winter Park. It opened in August 2013 on East New England Avenue, a block off Park Avenue, and it is owned by Rollins College. The hotel says all of its net operating income goes to scholarships for Rollins students. It has 183 rooms and suites, Hamilton’s Kitchen restaurant, a spa, and a rooftop pool and bar with a sundeck. The hotel describes itself as a AAA Four Diamond property.
The big draw is the art. The Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art, a gift to Rollins from Barbara and Ted Alfond, is installed throughout the building and is part of the Rollins Museum of Art’s permanent collection. It is open to the public, with free guided “Happy Hour Art Tours” on the first Wednesday of each month and a self-guided audio tour on the Bloomberg Connects app. Rooms range from the 323-square-foot Classic King to the 1,222-square-foot Grand Suite. Families can look at the Parlor Double Queen (448 sq ft, two queens plus a sleeper sofa) or the Junior Suite (576 sq ft, a king plus a queen sleeper sofa).
- Why stay: The most polished hotel in Winter Park, a short walk from Park Avenue, Central Park, Rollins and the Winter Park SunRail station, which the hotel says is a few blocks away.
- Getting there / to the parks: No shuttle is listed. The hotel estimates about 25 to 30 minutes to Universal Orlando and to Orlando International Airport (MCO), 20 to 25 minutes to SeaWorld and 30 to 40 minutes to Walt Disney World. Treat those as best cases: by road, SeaWorld is about 19 miles (closer to 35 minutes) and the Disney parks 22 to 27 miles.
- Good to know: At the time of writing the hotel lists a resort fee of $27 plus tax per room per night (fitness center, Wi-Fi, rooftop pool and bar access, a 10% spa discount and more). Parking is valet only, from $37 a day plus tax. Up to two dogs are allowed for $50 per pet per night. You must be 21 to check in; check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m.
Best for: Couples, art lovers, weddings and parents visiting Rollins who want to walk everywhere.
2. Park Plaza Hotel

If you want to step out of your room and onto Park Avenue, this is the only option. The hotel calls itself the only hotel on Winter Park’s famed Park Avenue. It was built in 1922 as the Hamilton Hotel and has just 28 rooms and suites, a wood-paneled lobby, and a long, fern-draped balcony that runs above the shops. Several rooms and suites open onto that balcony, including the Parkside Balcony rooms and the Front King Balcony Suites, which have separate bedroom and living areas.
This is a vintage boutique hotel rather than a full-service one. There is no restaurant (the hotel points you to the many cafes and bistros on the avenue) and no pool is listed. Complimentary coffee and tea are served in the lobby, Wi-Fi is free, and the front desk is staffed 24 hours. The hotel’s own room pages note that some rooms may hear street or train noise, since the Winter Park train station is close by.
- Why stay: Unbeatable location and old-Florida character. You can walk to the Morse Museum, the Scenic Boat Tour dock and the Saturday farmers’ market.
- Getting there / to the parks: The hotel says Orlando International Airport is about 15 miles away, and its bell staff can meet guests arriving by Amtrak if you call ahead. For the theme parks you will need a car or rideshare; expect about 25 minutes to Universal and 40 minutes or more to the Disney parks in light traffic.
- Good to know: Valet parking is $28 a day plus tax, rising to $40 on special event dates, at the time of writing. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out at noon. Bedding varies a lot by room (some suites have a queen plus a twin), so read each room description carefully if you are traveling as three.
Best for: Couples and solo travelers who value charm and walkability over pools and resort amenities.
3. Hilton Garden Inn Winter Park

This 102-room Hilton Garden Inn sits at 1275 Lee Road on the north side of Winter Park, in a Mediterranean-style building close to Winter Park Village. Hilton describes it as within walking distance of restaurants and shops, and its location page lists the Morse Museum, Casa Feliz and the Albin Polasek Museum about 2 miles away.
On site you will find the Garden Grille and Bar, which serves breakfast and dinner, room service, a lounge bar, a fitness center, a small shop for snacks and drinks, and two meeting rooms. Hilton’s amenities list did not include a pool at our last check.
- Why stay: A predictable brand hotel with quick access to I-4, about five minutes by car from Park Avenue, and it accepts pets.
- Getting there / to the parks: No airport shuttle. Hilton lists Orlando International Airport at 20 miles and Orlando Sanford International Airport at 15 miles. Universal is about 16 miles by road, typically 25 to 35 minutes via I-4.
- Good to know: Self-parking was $15 a day at our last check (January 2026; it was listed as free in 2025), and valet is not offered. Dogs and cats are allowed (up to two, 75 lb limit) for a non-refundable fee of $75 for one to four nights or $125 for five or more, plus tax. Breakfast is paid, not included. The minimum check-in age is 21; check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m.
Best for: Road-trippers, pet owners and business travelers who want a predictable brand.
4. SpringHill Suites by Marriott Winter Park

SpringHill Suites is an all-suite hotel at 1127 North Orlando Avenue, in the Ravaudage development on the US 17-92 corridor. Marriott says Rollins College is 1.2 miles away, about a 5-minute drive. Every room is a suite with a sitting area, which makes it one of the easier picks in Winter Park for a family of four.
Breakfast is the headline: Marriott lists a free hot buffet breakfast daily from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. There is also a 24/7 market, a lobby restaurant and bar with small plates, a fitness center open from 6 a.m. until midnight, and on-site laundry. Marriott did not list a pool at our last check.
- Why stay: Suite space and free hot breakfast at a lower price point than the boutique hotels near Park Avenue.
- Getting there / to the parks: No shuttle. Marriott lists Orlando International Airport at 19.2 miles and points to the Winter Park Amtrak and SunRail station nearby. Plan on driving to the parks.
- Good to know: On-site parking was $15 a day at our last check (January 2026), in a separate lot (“B Lot”) rather than the main lot. Pets are not allowed (service animals only). The minimum check-in age is 21.
Best for: Families and longer stays that want free breakfast and room to spread out.
5. Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando-Maitland

Just north of Winter Park, this extended-stay hotel sits off Maitland Boulevard on the shore of Lake Lucien, at 290 Southhall Lane. Hilton says it is less than 15 minutes from downtown Orlando, Winter Park and Altamonte Springs, and lists Winter Park Village at about 2 miles.
Suites have in-room kitchens, and the hotel includes a free hot breakfast and a complimentary Wednesday evening reception. There is an outdoor pool, a fitness center and cribs on request.
- Why stay: Kitchens, free breakfast, a pool and one of the lowest parking charges on this list.
- Getting there / to the parks: No airport shuttle. Hilton puts Disney Springs about 30 minutes away by car (it is about 24 miles by road, so allow 35 minutes or more) and Orlando International Airport about 20 miles away. Universal is the easiest major park to reach from here via I-4.
- Good to know: Self-parking was $10 a day plus tax at our last check (May 2026). Dogs and cats are allowed (two pets maximum, 75 lb limit) for a non-refundable fee of $75 for stays of one to four nights or $125 for five nights or more. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at noon.
Best for: Families, pet owners and stays of a week or longer.

6. Sheraton Orlando North

The Sheraton at 600 North Lake Destiny Road in Maitland is the biggest hotel near Winter Park, with 389 rooms and suites around a glass atrium lobby. Marriott lists a heated outdoor pool with a whirlpool, a 24-hour fitness center, free access to Genesis Health Clubs, and a Club Lounge for Club-level rooms and top-tier Bonvoy members.
Dining is the most varied on this list: An Tobar Irish Pub, the 1904 Lounge for American food and cocktails, Bloom Café in the atrium (à la carte breakfast on weekdays and a breakfast buffet on weekends), and Link Café with Starbucks drinks and grab-and-go items.
- Why stay: Full-service amenities, a heated pool and on-site restaurants, a short drive from Park Avenue.
- Getting there / to the parks: No shuttle. Marriott lists Orlando International Airport at 20 miles and Orlando Sanford at 19 miles. The hotel is close to I-4; Universal is about 16 miles by road, usually 25 to 35 minutes outside rush hour.
- Good to know: On-site parking was $20 a day at our last check (May 2026), with two free Tesla chargers. Marriott’s pet policy said “Pets Not Allowed,” even though the same page also described the hotel as dog-friendly, so call the hotel before booking with a dog. You must be 21 to check in.
Best for: Travelers who want a pool, a bar and restaurants on site, and business travelers in the Maitland Center area.
7. Courtyard by Marriott Orlando Altamonte Springs/Maitland

This Courtyard sits at 1750 Pembrook Drive, just off Maitland Boulevard near I-4 (its mailing address says Orlando). Marriott describes it as recently renovated and less than 30 minutes from Universal Orlando, Camping World Stadium and the Kia Center.
The Bistro serves cook-to-order breakfast, dinner and evening drinks, plus Starbucks beverages. There is a heated outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center, on-site laundry and two event spaces.

Is Winter Park a good place to stay in Orlando?
It depends on your trip. Winter Park is a great base if the theme parks are only part of the plan. Park Avenue has boutiques, sidewalk cafes and Central Park; the Morse Museum at 445 North Park Avenue holds what it calls the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, including his chapel from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The Scenic Boat Tour, running since 1938, leaves every hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from 312 East Morse Boulevard and cruises the city’s lakes and canals (at the time of writing, $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 2 to 11). On Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the city’s farmers’ market fills Central Park’s West Meadow at New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard.
If Disney World is the main event, compare these hotels with our best hotels near Disney World and our overview of where to stay in Orlando by area. Universal fans are better served: the drive is shorter, and you can review the on-site options in our guide to hotels near Universal Studios Orlando.
Getting around: SunRail and driving
The Winter Park/Amtrak SunRail station is close to Park Avenue; the Alfond Inn says it is a few blocks away, and the Park Plaza notes the station is nearby. SunRail also stops in Maitland and at Church Street in downtown Orlando. Trains run Monday to Friday only, with no weekend service, and do not stop at the airport. SunRail charges $2 for a ride within one zone, and Winter Park and downtown Orlando are both in Orange County. It is handy for a weekday evening downtown, but it will not take you to the theme parks. Our guide to getting around Orlando without a car explains the alternatives.
How to choose a hotel in Winter Park
- Walk to Park Avenue: Only The Alfond Inn and the Park Plaza Hotel are truly walkable to the avenue. Everything else on this list means a short drive or rideshare.
- Traveling with kids: SpringHill Suites and Homewood Suites give you more room and free breakfast. Homewood and the Maitland Sheraton and Courtyard also have pools.
- Bringing a dog: The Alfond Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites accept pets for a fee. For more choices, see our list of pet-friendly hotels in Orlando.
- Watching total cost: Add parking (and, at the Alfond Inn, the resort fee) to the room rate before comparing. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.
- Romantic weekend: The Alfond Inn and Park Plaza are the two most atmospheric picks; for more ideas, see our romantic hotels in Orlando for couples.
- Want more nightlife: If concerts, games or a big bar scene matter more than quiet streets, compare the best hotels in downtown Orlando, about 15 minutes south.

Frequently asked questions
Is Winter Park a good place to stay for Disney World?
It can work, but it is not the most convenient base. The Disney parks are 22 to 27 miles away by road, about 40 minutes in light traffic, and I-4 congestion can make it longer. None of the hotels in this guide lists a theme park shuttle, so you will need a car or rideshare. If most of your days are at Disney, a hotel near Lake Buena Vista or Disney Springs will save time.
How far is Winter Park from Universal Orlando?
Universal is the closest major theme park resort to Winter Park. The Alfond Inn estimates about 25 to 30 minutes by car, and the hotels in this guide are roughly 15 to 18 miles from Universal by road. Rush-hour traffic on I-4 can add time, so leave early if you want to be at the gates for opening.
Is there a hotel on Park Avenue in Winter Park?
Yes. The Park Plaza Hotel at 307 South Park Avenue describes itself as the only hotel on the avenue. It dates from 1922 and has 28 rooms, several with balconies overlooking the street. The Alfond Inn is a block away on East New England Avenue, so it is also an easy walk to Park Avenue’s shops and restaurants.
Can you take SunRail from Winter Park to downtown Orlando?
Yes, on weekdays. SunRail stops at the Winter Park/Amtrak station near Park Avenue and at Church Street in downtown Orlando, and a ride within one zone costs $2 at the time of writing. Trains run Monday to Friday only and are closed on major holidays. SunRail does not go to the theme parks or stop at Orlando International Airport.
Which hotels in Winter Park allow pets?
The Alfond Inn allows up to two dogs per room for $50 per pet per night. Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando-Maitland accepts up to two dogs or cats (75 lb limit) for a $75 to $125 non-refundable fee depending on length of stay, and Hilton Garden Inn Winter Park lists the same terms. SpringHill Suites, the Sheraton and the Courtyard list no pets. Always confirm pet rules directly with the hotel.
Do Winter Park hotels charge resort fees?
Most hotels in this guide did not list a resort fee at our last check. The exception is The Alfond Inn, which lists $27 plus tax per room per night, covering Wi-Fi, the fitness center, rooftop pool access and other extras. Parking is charged separately at most of these hotels, so add both costs to your nightly rate when comparing.
Bottom line
For a true Winter Park experience, stay at The Alfond Inn or the Park Plaza Hotel and walk to Park Avenue, the museums and the boat tour. Families and longer stays get more space and free breakfast at SpringHill Suites or Homewood Suites, while the Sheraton Orlando North is the pick for a pool and on-site restaurants. Whichever you choose, budget for parking and a car for the theme parks. Check your dates at The Alfond Inn or compare the other Winter Park options above.
