Universal Orlando height requirements start at 34 inches (87 cm) for E.T. Adventure and Yoshi’s Adventure and go up to 54 inches (138 cm) for The Incredible Hulk Coaster. Universal’s minimums run higher than Disney’s: Universal has six rides at 48 inches and three above that, so measure your child before you choose park days and tickets.
We took every height below from Universal Orlando’s official US English pages: the ride height requirements page, the individual ride pages and Universal’s Guide for Safety and Accessibility (effective Oct. 4, 2025; the Volcano Bay edition is dated July 2026). We checked them on October 8, 2026, along with Universal’s temporary closures list.
Two changes catch families out this year. Fast & Furious – Supercharged has closed and no longer appears on Universal’s ride height list. Volcano Bay closes for maintenance from October 26, 2026, with reopening planned on or before April 1, 2027.
Quick answer: At 34 inches your child can ride E.T. Adventure and Yoshi’s Adventure. At 36 inches six more open up, including Trolls Trollercoaster and Flight of the Hippogriff. At 40 inches it’s 18 of the 32 height-restricted rides in the three theme parks, and at 48 inches 29. The last three need 51 inches (VelociCoaster), 52 inches (Doctor Doom’s Fearfall) and 54 inches (Hulk).

The 40-inch mark matters most, because it unlocks ten rides across all three parks. Pteranodon Flyers works the other way: Universal says it is designed for children 36 to 56 inches (92–143 cm), and anyone over 56 inches can ride only with a child who meets the requirement.
Universal Studios Florida height requirements
Universal Studios Florida has nine height-restricted rides, and only Revenge of the Mummy needs more than 42 inches.

At Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, guests under 40 inches can watch from an adjacent stationary seat instead of the moving one, so the whole family can go in together. DreamWorks Land is the small-kid corner of the park: Trolls Trollercoaster takes riders from 36 inches, and the land also has play areas such as Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp and Poppy’s Playground.
Fast & Furious – Supercharged has closed: Universal has taken it off its ride height list and its ride page, so it’s not in the table. Universal says a new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster is coming in 2027; it hadn’t published that ride’s height requirement when we checked. Islands of Adventure height requirements
Islands of Adventure has the most height-restricted rides (14) and the highest minimums in the resort, but Seuss Landing and Jurassic Park still give young kids plenty to ride.

Jurassic Park River Adventure has been closed for scheduled maintenance since January 5, 2026. Its ride page says it will reopen on December 17, 2026, which matches the closures list (closed through December 16). Skull Island: Reign of Kong takes riders from 36 inches but carries a parental advisory on its ride page, so it may be too intense for some kids who are tall enough.
A child at 48 inches can ride both Harry Potter rides in Hogsmeade but still not Hulk, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall or VelociCoaster.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure needs 48 inches and isn’t part of Universal Express, so plan for a long standby line. Flight of the Hippogriff, the family coaster nearby, takes riders from 36 inches.
Epic Universe height requirements

At Epic Universe the 40-inch line matters most: five of its nine height-restricted rides open up exactly at 40 inches. Constellation Carousel and the Fyre Drill boat ride have no minimum. Fyre Drill is listed among the temporary closures from January 25 to February 4, 2027. Dragon Racer’s Rally is not an Express ride.
Volcano Bay height requirements (closed until spring 2027)
Universal Volcano Bay begins a maintenance closure on October 26, 2026, and Universal plans to reopen it on or before April 1, 2027 (dates subject to change). If your trip is after it reopens, these are the rules from the July 2026 Volcano Bay guide and Universal’s ride height page:
- 42 inches (107 cm): ika Moana, Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Maku and Puihi Round Raft Rides, Punga Racers, Taniwha Tubes and TeAwa The Fearless River. On TeAwa, children 42 to 48 inches must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest and enter with a supervising companion.
- 48 inches (122 cm): Honu, Kala and Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides (the July 2026 guide lists only the Kala slide), Ko’okiri Body Plunge and the Ohyah and Ohno Drop Slides.
- Kids’ areas: the slides at Tot Tiki Reef have a maximum rider height of 48 inches and those at Runamukka Reef 54 inches (137 cm).
- Life vests: children under 48 inches must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest at Waturi Beach, The Reef, Puka Uli Lagoon and Kopiko Wai Winding River. On Kopiko Wai they also need a supervising companion.
Krakatau Aqua Coaster, where Universal says four-person canoes twist through the dark inside the volcano, is one of the 42-inch rides. Children between 42 and 48 inches ride it with a supervising companion.
Rides with no height requirement
These rides and play areas have no minimum on Universal’s ride pages or in its safety guide. Children under 48 inches still need a supervising companion on the rides.
- Universal Studios Florida: Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast (no hand-held infants), Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl and Hogwarts Express – King’s Cross Station, plus DreamWorks Land’s play areas.
- Islands of Adventure: Caro-Seuss-el, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Storm Force Accelatron and Hogwarts Express – Hogsmeade Station, plus Camp Jurassic, If I Ran The Zoo and Me Ship, The Olive.
- Epic Universe: Constellation Carousel and Fyre Drill (no hand-held infants on either).

Supervising companions, test seats and other ride rules
- Supervising companion: any child who meets a ride’s minimum but is under 48 inches (122 cm) must ride with a supervising companion. Universal defines that as someone 14 or older who meets the ride’s other requirements.
- Sitting upright: Universal’s safety guide says children under 48 inches must be able to sit upright unassisted on every ride except the Hogwarts Express and Caro-Seuss-el.
- Test seats: Escape from Gringotts, Revenge of the Mummy, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, Hagrid’s, Forbidden Journey, VelociCoaster, Hulk and the nine height-restricted Epic Universe rides have test seats, so you can check the fit before you join the line.
- Express: Universal Express is not valid on Hagrid’s or Dragon Racer’s Rally.
How Child Swap works at Universal
Child Swap is Universal’s version of Disney’s Rider Switch. Universal’s FAQ describes it like this:
- If your children are too small or don’t want to ride, one member of your party waits with them.
- The rest of the group rides.
- When they get off, you trade places and the person who waited rides. Universal’s FAQ says that person skips the Virtual Line and waits only in the queue on the attraction’s staircase.
Ask the Team Member at the ride entrance before you split up.
At Volcano Bay, Child Swap takes place at the attraction entrance. Some ride pages, including Gringotts, Forbidden Journey and Stardust Racers, show a Child Swap symbol, but the list isn’t complete, so ask at the entrance. Tips for kids who are just under a height line
- Measure at home first. Use a tape measure in the shoes your child will wear in the park, and treat any ride within an inch as a maybe.
- Know the key lines. 36 inches opens Trolls Trollercoaster and Flight of the Hippogriff, 40 inches adds ten rides, 42 inches adds Gringotts, MEN IN BLACK and two water rides, and 48 inches opens most of the big thrill rides.
- Count rides per park. A 40-inch child can take six height-restricted rides in each of the three theme parks. At 36 inches it’s five at Islands of Adventure, two at Universal Studios Florida and one at Epic Universe.
- Have a backup ready. If your child just misses Hagrid’s, ride Flight of the Hippogriff nearby. Under 40 inches, your child can still see Minion Mayhem from a stationary seat.
- Book Express where it helps. Free Express from some hotels works at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass explains which hotels include it.

Royal Pacific is one of three Universal hotels whose guests get free Universal Express Unlimited at participating rides in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure for their whole stay (not at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay). It also has Jurassic World Kids’ Suites. Universal describes them as two-bedroom suites with an attached dinosaur-themed kids’ room, sleeping up to five (one king and two twin beds) with a rollaway. Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Cabana Bay is Universal’s value pick for families. Its Family Suites measure 430 square feet and sleep up to six, with two queen beds, a pull-out sofa, a sliding privacy partition, a kitchenette and a bathroom split so three people can get ready at once.
