Disney World height requirements start at 32 inches (81 cm) for Tomorrowland Speedway and Alien Swirling Saucers and top out at 48 inches (122 cm) for TRON Lightcycle / Run and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Most attractions at the four theme parks have no minimum at all, so even the smallest riders have plenty to do.

We took every height below from Walt Disney World’s official attraction pages: archived copies of the US English pages captured between March and October 2026, cross-checked against Disney’s live site on October 8, 2026. Two changes catch families out this year: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad now takes riders from 38 inches instead of 40, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios now stars The Muppets, still at 48 inches.

Quick answer: At 32 inches a child can ride Tomorrowland Speedway and Alien Swirling Saucers. At 35 inches The Barnstormer opens up, and at 38 inches five more rides do, including Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Slinky Dog Dash. At 40 inches your child can ride 15 of the 21 height-restricted rides, at 44 inches 19, and at 48 inches every ride in the four parks.

Disney World height requirements by height band

Each step up unlocks more rides. The running total counts the 21 height-restricted rides on Disney’s theme park attraction pages at the time of writing (Mission: SPACE counts once, although its two versions have different minimums).

Minimum heightRides addedTotal you can ride
32 in (81 cm)Tomorrowland Speedway, Alien Swirling Saucers2

44 in (112 cm)Space Mountain, Mission: SPACE Orange, Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest19
48 in (122 cm)TRON Lightcycle / Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets21

One more line to know: at Tomorrowland Speedway, racers who are at least 54 inches (137 cm) can drive a car on their own. Riders from 32 inches can also drive, as long as someone at least 54 inches tall rides with them.

The 38-inch and 40-inch marks matter most: 38 inches opens the family coasters, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Slinky Dog Dash, and 40 inches adds seven more rides, including Tower of Terror and Rise of the Resistance.

Magic Kingdom height requirements

Magic Kingdom has seven rides with a minimum height, and they are spread across the whole range, from the 32-inch Speedway to the 48-inch TRON coaster.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the classic first coaster, and Disney lists it among the attractions planned to run during Early Theme Park Entry, along with The Barnstormer, Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened in May 2026 after what Disney calls a mountaintop-to-cavern refurbishment, and its attraction page now lists 38 inches. Disney’s Help Center FAQ still showed the old 40 inches in a July 2026 capture, so if you see 40 somewhere, go by the attraction page and confirm at the entrance.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be temporarily closed for routine maintenance from November 2, 2026, with reopening expected in December 2026, according to Disney’s attraction page. For a full park game plan, see our Magic Kingdom tips for first-timers.

EPCOT height requirements

EPCOT has four height-restricted rides, all between 40 and 44 inches, and two of its biggest family rides, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, have no minimum.

Soarin’ Across America is a limited-time version of Soarin’ tied to the United States’ 250th birthday celebration, and Disney lists Soarin’ Around the World as currently unavailable. Both carry the same 40-inch minimum. At Mission: SPACE, the gentler Green Mission (a motion simulator that doesn’t spin) takes riders from 40 inches, while the spinning Orange Mission needs 44 inches.

Hollywood Studios height requirements

Hollywood Studios ties Magic Kingdom with seven height-restricted rides, and only Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster needs more than 40 inches.

Toy Story Land is the sweet spot for small kids: Alien Swirling Saucers takes riders from 32 inches, Slinky Dog Dash from 38 inches, and Toy Story Mania! has no minimum. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith no longer appears on Disney’s attraction list; the new Muppets version keeps the 48-inch minimum and has three inversions.

Height isn’t the only test at Tower of Terror: Disney warns of fast, sudden drops in a dark, enclosed space that some guests may find frightening, so a nervous 40-inch child may prefer Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which has no minimum.

Animal Kingdom height requirements

Animal Kingdom has only three height-restricted rides, and they come in two bands: 38 inches and 44 inches.

DINOSAUR, which required 40 inches, closed permanently on February 2, 2026, to make way for Tropical Americas, according to Disney’s attraction page at the time, so it is not in the table. Na’vi River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Zootopia: Better Zoogether! have no minimum height.

Kali River Rapids is a rafting ride with sudden drops, and Disney warns that you may get soaked, so pack dry clothes for small riders.

Popular rides with no height requirement

These rides are listed as “any height” on Disney’s attraction pages, so they work for toddlers and anyone who doesn’t want a thrill ride. Disney’s attraction pages also state that children under 7 must be accompanied by someone age 14 or older.

  • Magic Kingdom: Peter Pan’s Flight, “it’s a small world”, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Under the Sea, Mad Tea Party, Astro Orbiter and the PeopleMover.
  • EPCOT: Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Spaceship Earth, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, Living with the Land, Gran Fiesta Tour and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.
  • Hollywood Studios: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Toy Story Mania!
  • Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na’vi River Journey, Wildlife Express Train, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, Maharajah Jungle Trek and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!

Some any-height rides still have other limits, such as needing to transfer from a wheelchair, so check the “Safety, Accessibility and Guest Policies” box on each attraction page. For nap planning, strollers and baby care, read our guide to Orlando with toddlers.

Blizzard Beach height requirements

Disney’s water parks use their own height rules, including maximum heights for the kids’ areas. Typhoon Lagoon is closed for refurbishment, with its attractions listed as closed or under refurbishment on Disney’s site, so only Blizzard Beach applies right now.

  • Summit Plummet, Downhill Double Dipper and Slush Gusher: 48 inches (122 cm) or taller. Slush Gusher is temporarily unavailable at the time of writing.
  • Chairlift: 32 inches (81 cm) or taller, and riders 48 inches or under must be with an adult 18 or older. Shorter guests can take the stairs up Mount Gushmore.
  • Tike’s Peak: this play area is designed for preschoolers and kids under 48 inches (122 cm).

How Rider Switch works

Rider Switch lets adults take turns riding while someone waits with a child who is too short or doesn’t want to ride, so nobody stands in the full line twice. Disney’s steps:

  1. Go to the attraction entrance with your whole group and tell a Cast Member you want to use Rider Switch.
  2. Split into two parties. Party A joins the line and rides first; Party B waits outside the line with the child.
  3. A Cast Member scans the admission media or tickets of Party B and tells you where to return.
  4. When Party A is done, up to two people from Party B go to the return entrance and board without waiting in the standard queue. If Party B is a single guest, one person from Party A may ride again with them.

Disney’s official list covers every height-restricted ride above except Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which was missing in both an August 2026 capture and the live page in October, so ask the Cast Member at its entrance. The list also includes Frozen Ever After and Na’vi River Journey, which have no minimum.

Tips for kids who are just under a height line

  • Measure at home first. Use a tape measure in the shoes your child will wear in the park. Answering Walt Disney World questions on planDisney, Disney’s Q&A site, guest panelists have said children are measured with their shoes on, as long as the soles are normal rather than platform; treat that as guidance, not an official rule.
  • Don’t promise a ride. If your child is close to a line, plan a nearby backup, such as Toy Story Mania! next to Slinky Dog Dash or the Green Mission instead of Orange.
  • Start small. Alien Swirling Saucers, Tomorrowland Speedway and The Barnstormer show you how a child handles motion before a bigger coaster.
  • Ride the family coasters early. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Slinky Dog Dash are both on Disney’s planned Early Theme Park Entry list, which runs for 30 minutes every day for guests of Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels.
  • Check the app on the day. Rides close for maintenance (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure from November 2 is one example), so confirm before you walk across the park.
  • Compare other parks before you buy tickets. Universal and SeaWorld set their own minimums; see the ride heights in our Epic Universe guide and our SeaWorld Orlando guide if you’re splitting your trip.

Where to stay with little riders

With small kids you’ll ride in the morning and head back for a nap. Both hotels below are on Disney’s list of non-Disney hotels with Early Theme Park Entry. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book. For Disney-owned monorail resorts near Magic Kingdom, see our guide to hotels near Magic Kingdom.

Walt Disney World Dolphin

The Dolphin is an EPCOT-area resort hotel close to Hollywood Studios, the park with the most rides for kids between 32 and 40 inches. According to the resort, you can walk to the entrances of both parks along a series of walkways or take a water taxi that runs about every 20 to 25 minutes (boats don’t operate in bad weather). Buses run to Magic Kingdom, where they drop you at the Ticket and Transportation Center, and to Animal Kingdom.

The resort says guests get complimentary standard parking at the Disney theme parks. At our last check the Swan and Dolphin charged a mandatory resort service package of $50 plus tax per day, so confirm it when you book, and see our Swan vs Dolphin vs Swan Reserve comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What can a 40-inch child ride at Disney World?

A 40-inch child can ride 15 of the 21 height-restricted rides, including Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Slinky Dog Dash, Test Track, Soarin’, Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror. Still off-limits: Cosmic Rewind (42 inches), Space Mountain, Mission: SPACE Orange, Flight of Passage and Everest (44 inches), TRON and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (48 inches).

What is the tallest height requirement at Disney World?

In the theme parks, the highest minimum is 48 inches (122 cm), for TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Hollywood Studios. To drive a Tomorrowland Speedway car alone you must be 54 inches (137 cm). At Blizzard Beach, Summit Plummet, Downhill Double Dipper and Slush Gusher also require 48 inches.

What is the height requirement for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?

Disney’s attraction page lists 38 inches (97 cm) since the ride’s recent refurbishment, down from 40 inches. Some older Disney pages, including a July 2026 capture of its Help Center FAQ, still showed 40 inches, so trust the attraction page and confirm at the entrance. Big Thunder was not on Disney’s Rider Switch list when we checked, so ask a Cast Member if you need it.

How does Rider Switch work at Disney World?

Tell the Cast Member at the attraction entrance you’d like Rider Switch. One adult rides with the rest of the group while another waits with the child outside the line. The waiting party’s tickets are scanned, and once the first group finishes, up to two people from the waiting party board through a separate entrance without joining the standard queue.

Can kids under 32 inches ride anything at Disney World?

Yes. Every ride without a height requirement is open to them, including Peter Pan’s Flight, Dumbo, “it’s a small world”, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Toy Story Mania! and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Children under 7 must be accompanied by someone 14 or older, and some rides require guests to transfer from a wheelchair or ECV.

Bottom line

Disney World height requirements come down to a few lines: 32 inches for the starter rides, 38 inches for the family coasters, 40 inches for many headliners and 48 inches for TRON and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Measure your child before you plan each park day, have backups for rides they’re close to, use Rider Switch so adults don’t miss out and check closures in the My Disney Experience app. For easy nap breaks, pick a hotel with Early Theme Park Entry, such as the Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando – Disney Springs Area.
