The LEGOLAND Florida Hotel and the Pirate Island Hotel stand side by side at the entrance of LEGOLAND Florida Resort in Winter Haven, and they share almost everything that matters to a family: the walk to the park gate, breakfast with most bookings, 30 minutes of Early Park Access, and the same resort fee and parking charge. What separates them is the room themes, the room mix, the pools and the restaurants.
A third option, LEGOLAND Beach Retreat, is a village of LEGO-styled bungalows about half a mile away on Lake Dexter: LEGOLAND’s budget-friendly stay, but without Early Park Access and only open on select dates.
We compared all three on LEGOLAND’s official pages and help center in October 2026. For the chain hotels down the road, see our guide to hotels near LEGOLAND Florida.
Quick answer: Book the LEGOLAND Hotel if your kids want a specific LEGO world (NINJAGO, Friends, DUPLO, Kingdom, Adventure, THE LEGO MOVIE or Pirate), the pool with the water slide, or a VIP suite for nine. Book the Pirate Island Hotel if pirates suit everyone, you want a Lake Eloise view or a two-bedroom suite for seven, and you prefer a pool without a slide. Choose the Beach Retreat for a patio, a beach pool heated year-round and what LEGOLAND calls its budget-friendly stay, if you can skip Early Park Access and it is open on your dates.

Booking.com sells the three under a single listing, “LEGOLAND Florida Resort”, where each room type names its hotel. When we checked (no dates entered), it showed five room types: Adventure, Kingdom and Pirate rooms at the LEGOLAND Hotel, a Pirate Island room and a Beach Retreat bungalow. For other themes, lake views or suites, check LEGOLAND’s own site.
LEGOLAND Hotel: seven themes and the pool with the slide
The original LEGOLAND Hotel has 152 rooms in seven themes: Pirate (floors 2 and 3), Kingdom (2 and 4), Adventure (5), LEGO Friends, THE LEGO MOVIE and LEGO DUPLO (all on 2) and LEGO NINJAGO (3). Every room has a king bed and a separate kids’ area with a twin bunk bed, a pull-out trundle, a LEGO building area and its own TV; premium rooms add more theming. VIP suites in four themes sleep up to nine with a second bedroom, a lounge with a queen sofa bed, a lake-view balcony and valet parking.
The hotel also has Bricks Family Restaurant, the Skyline Lounge with a LEGO skyline of more than 20 scenes, a Castle Play Area with activities at 6:30 p.m. and a pajama dance party at 7:30 p.m., a disco elevator and the resort’s only pool water slide.

Pirate Island Hotel: one theme, lake views and bigger suites
Opened in spring 2020 next door, the Pirate Island Hotel has 150 rooms, including four suites, and every one is a pirate cabin: no theme to pick, only a room type. Standard rooms sleep up to five with the same king-plus-bunk-and-trundle layout; lake-view rooms face Lake Eloise; the two-bedroom suites sleep up to seven with a lounge and queen sofa bed, three TVs, lake views and valet parking.
The lobby’s Smuggler’s Stage hosts the nightly program, from Buccaneer Bingo to a pirate pajama dance party. Shipwreck Restaurant serves the family-style breakfast and dinner, and Smuggler’s Bar (5 to 9 p.m. daily at last check) does cocktails, local craft beers, mocktails and take-out pizza.

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat: bungalows and a beach pool, no early entry
The Beach Retreat’s 83 brightly painted bungalows hold 166 rooms of about 275 square feet, all with a king bed, a kids’ nook with a twin bunk and trundle, a mini-fridge and a private patio, grouped in 13 coves named after LEGO minifigures, each with its own play structure and lawn. There are no suites and no in-room treasure chest. On characters, LEGOLAND’s help center contradicts itself (a LEGOLAND Hotel exclusive in one article, Lighthouse meet-and-greets on select nights in another).
In exchange you get space and arguably the best pool of the three for small children, heated to 82 to 85 degrees year-round beside a sandy beach, a larger playground and a fire pit for s’mores. Sandy’s Castle Restaurant (270 seats) serves breakfast, lunch and a Latin-inspired dinner with a full bar, and Bricks Beach Bar is a walk-up window for to-go meals. Two caveats: LEGOLAND calls it a seasonal resort available on select operating days, and at last check its pool hours were listed for Friday to Sunday only.

Location and the walk to the park gate
Both hotels sit at the main entrance of the theme park, “just steps away” in LEGOLAND’s words from the LEGOLAND Florida and Peppa Pig Theme Park entrances.
The Beach Retreat sits on Lake Dexter at 100 Legoland Way. LEGOLAND puts it about half a mile from the theme park, a 10-to-15-minute walk; our routing along Legoland Way came out between half a mile and nearly a mile depending on the path, so allow 15 to 20 minutes with a stroller or take the free shuttle, which leaves from the Lighthouse building from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from three hours before park closing until an hour after, and also serves the water park and Peppa Pig Theme Park.
Rooms, themes and who they sleep

Every room at all three hotels is a family room: a king bed, a separate kids’ sleeping area with a twin bunk bed and twin trundle, LEGO bricks, a mini-fridge and a coffee maker. The two hotels add a TV in each sleeping area and the arrival-day treasure hunt with a LEGO prize. Pack ‘n Plays are first come, first served (no cribs or rollaways), no room or suite has a second bathroom, and there are no connecting rooms.
Occupancy is where LEGOLAND’s own pages disagree: its LEGOLAND Hotel article says standard and premium rooms sleep up to five with a maximum of three adults, while its Pirate Island article says standard rooms take two adults and three children. If you are three adults plus kids, confirm before booking. The LEGOLAND Hotel’s VIP suites are the biggest at the resort, sleeping nine; Pirate Island suites sleep seven; Beach Retreat bungalows sleep five with no larger option. For similar rooms around Orlando, see our guides to Orlando hotels with kids’ suites and rooms that sleep five or six at Disney and Universal.
Pools: slide, calm or beach

The LEGOLAND Hotel pool is heated to about 80 degrees (“heated seasonally”, LEGOLAND says), is 4 feet at its deepest, has soft floating LEGO bricks, lifeguards and free towels, and is the only pool with a water slide, for riders 40 inches and taller. The Pirate Island pool is the same depth and temperature, with the same floating bricks but no slide. Both typically open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and guests of either hotel may use both.
The Beach Retreat pool is warmer, 82 to 85 degrees year-round, with a sandy beach, a big play structure and views over Lake Dexter (the lake itself is off limits). At last check its hours were Friday 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. None of the three hotels has a gym or guest laundry.
Dining and breakfast
Breakfast is family-style and all you care to eat, 7 to 11 a.m., at Bricks Family Restaurant (LEGOLAND Hotel), Shipwreck Restaurant (Pirate Island) and Sandy’s Castle (Beach Retreat). LEGOLAND says room-only rates and hotel-plus-ticket packages include it; Build Your Own Vacation bookings made between June 12, 2025 and April 13, 2026 had it as a paid add-on. Its package terms add that breakfast is for guests named on the reservation and not served on check-in day. If you book on Booking.com, check whether your rate lists breakfast and confirm with the hotel. Arrive before 8:30 a.m., when LEGOLAND warns that waits can top 20 minutes.
Dinner is where the two hotels diverge. Bricks Family Restaurant runs an all-you-care-to-eat buffet from 5 to 9 p.m., listed at $31 for adults and $15 for ages 3 to 12 at the time of writing; Shipwreck Restaurant serves dinner family-style at the table, listed at $40 and $19, with reservations strongly recommended. The LEGOLAND Hotel also has the Skyline Lounge for à la carte lunch and dinner with a full bar and a play area, while Pirate Island has Smuggler’s Bar. All the restaurants are open to non-guests.
Perks: Early Park Access, workshops and nightly entertainment

Guests of the LEGOLAND Hotel and Pirate Island Hotel get Early Park Access: entry 30 minutes before the public, with valid park admission, to select areas (Guest Services, The Beginning with the LEGO Shop and Coffee Co., SEA LIFE Florida Aquarium and Rebuild the World). It is a head start on the aquarium and a coffee, not early rides, and the areas can change. Beach Retreat guests are not eligible.
Creative Workshops, free 30-minute sessions with a Master Model Builder where kids keep the model, are held at the two hotels; online booking opens two weeks before arrival, one session a day. LEGOLAND’s Beach Retreat FAQ says its guests are included, while its entertainment article lists only the two hotels, so confirm. Nightly kids’ entertainment runs only at the two hotels, but LEGOLAND is inconsistent on characters: one help article calls character appearances a LEGOLAND Hotel exclusive, its Pirate Island article invites guests to “meet real-life LEGO pirates”, and its resort-fee article lists character meet-and-greets among what the fee covers at all three hotels.
Resort fee, parking and other costs
All three hotels charge a resort fee of $35 plus tax per room per night, collected when you book, covering Wi-Fi, the workshops, pool towels, character meet-and-greets and the nightly entertainment (the help article giving that amount dates from October 2025, so confirm the current figure). Self-parking is $33 plus tax per night at all three, paid at the hotel front desk; valet is included with suites and otherwise $43 per car at the two hotels.
Early check-in or late check-out (both 1 p.m.) cost $65 plus tax each at last check and are not offered for suites. Guests must be 21 to book and check in, no pets are allowed (service animals are welcome), quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and Polk County adds a 12 percent tax to room rates. LEGOLAND’s own rates carry strict change and cancellation rules, and Booking.com rates have their own terms, so read them before you pay.
Getting there: distances to Orlando, Disney, Universal and the airports
LEGOLAND says the resort is “just 45 minutes from the Orlando theme parks or downtown Tampa” and about 45 to 50 miles from both Orlando International (MCO) and Tampa International. Our road routing to the actual parking lots comes out longer (light traffic; subtract about a mile from the Beach Retreat):
| Destination | Road miles | Drive time, light traffic |
|---|---|---|
| EPCOT main parking lot | About 37 | About 1 hour |
| Magic Kingdom lot (Transportation and Ticket Center) | About 37 | About 1 hour |
| Disney Springs garages | About 38 | About 1 hour |
| Universal Orlando main garages | About 44 | About 65 minutes |
| Epic Universe parking | About 43 | About 65 minutes |
| SeaWorld Orlando | About 40 | About 1 hour |
| Orlando International Airport (MCO) | About 52 | About 80 minutes |
| Tampa International Airport (TPA) | About 61 | About 90 minutes |
| Downtown Orlando | About 51 | About 75 minutes |
From Orlando, take I-4 west to exit 55, US 27 south, then State Road 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard) for 4 miles, all toll-free; the Polk Parkway on the Tampa route is a toll road (see our Orlando toll roads guide). There is no airport shuttle. Without a car, the LEGOLAND Express bus runs on select dates from ICON Park (8:30 a.m.), and LEGOLAND’s help center also lists a DoubleTree by Hilton stop at the Universal Orlando entrance (8:15 a.m.), returning about 30 minutes after park closing, from $8 per person without admission. Splitting the trip with Disney? US 27 hotels in Davenport sit about 25 minutes from the Disney parking lots and 35 to 40 minutes from LEGOLAND, and Lakeland works if you are coming from Tampa.
Which hotel suits which age
- Under 5: LEGOLAND Hotel for the DUPLO rooms and Pack ‘n Plays, with Peppa Pig Theme Park (aimed at ages 2 to 5) a few steps away; the Beach Retreat’s warmer pool suits nap-heavy days if the shuttle is no bother. Our Orlando with toddlers guide covers tickets and strollers.
- Ages 5 to 10: the sweet spot for both hotels. Pick a chosen theme and the slide at the LEGOLAND Hotel, or the pirate storyline and lake views at Pirate Island. LEGOLAND says the park is best for ages 2 to 12.
Price tier and how to book
We don’t publish nightly rates. In broad terms, LEGOLAND markets the Beach Retreat as its budget-friendly stay, while premium themed rooms, lake-view rooms and suites are the upgrades at the two hotels. LEGOLAND’s hotel-plus-ticket packages bundle two- or three-day tickets and breakfast, so compare them with Booking.com’s room-only total for your dates; everyone aged 2 and older needs a ticket. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.
Choose the LEGOLAND Hotel if…
- Your child has a favorite LEGO line and sleeping inside it is the point of the trip.
- You want the water slide, the Castle Play Area and the Skyline Lounge in the same building.
- You have a toddler for a DUPLO room, or a group of up to nine for a VIP suite.
Choose the Pirate Island Hotel if…
- Everyone is happy with pirates and you’d rather not referee a theme vote.
- You want a Lake Eloise view or a two-bedroom suite for up to seven.
- You prefer a pool without a slide, with the LEGOLAND Hotel’s slide a short walk away.
Choose LEGOLAND Beach Retreat if…
- You want a patio, a lawn and a beach pool heated year-round, and the shuttle is no problem.
- Price matters more than Early Park Access, treasure chests and nightly shows.
- It is open on your dates; check before you build a trip around it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the LEGOLAND Hotel or Pirate Island Hotel better for young kids?
For children under 5, the LEGOLAND Hotel edges it: DUPLO rooms designed for ages 18 months to 5, the Castle Play Area and nightly pajama party, and a water slide for older siblings. Pirate Island suits 4-to-10-year-olds who love pirates, with the same kids’ area, nightly lobby entertainment and a pool without a slide. Both are steps from Peppa Pig Theme Park.
Do Pirate Island Hotel guests get the same perks as LEGOLAND Hotel guests?
Almost all of them: 30 minutes of Early Park Access to select areas, breakfast with most bookings, free Creative Workshops, nightly kids’ entertainment, the arrival-day treasure hunt and the use of both pools. The LEGOLAND Hotel keeps the water slide (one help article also calls character appearances its exclusive, though another promises LEGO pirates at Pirate Island); Pirate Island counters with lake-view rooms and Smuggler’s Bar. Fees and parking are identical.
Is breakfast included at the LEGOLAND Florida hotels?
Usually. LEGOLAND says room-only rates and hotel-plus-ticket packages include the family-style breakfast at Bricks Family Restaurant, Shipwreck Restaurant or Sandy’s Castle; the exception was Build Your Own Vacation bookings made between June 12, 2025 and April 13, 2026, which sold it as an add-on. On Booking.com, check whether your rate lists breakfast and confirm with the hotel.
How far is the LEGOLAND Florida Hotel from Disney World and Orlando airport?
By road it is about 37 miles to the EPCOT and Magic Kingdom parking lots, roughly an hour in light traffic, about 44 miles to Universal Orlando and about 52 miles (around 80 minutes) to Orlando International Airport. LEGOLAND quotes 45 minutes from the Orlando parks and 45 to 50 miles from the airport, so allow more time than its figures.
Can you walk from the LEGOLAND hotels to Peppa Pig Theme Park?
Yes. LEGOLAND describes both hotels as just steps from the entrances of LEGOLAND Florida and Peppa Pig Theme Park, which share the resort grounds. Peppa Pig needs its own ticket or a multi-park ticket and is generally open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. From the Beach Retreat, the free shuttle also stops there, or allow 15 to 20 minutes on foot.
Does LEGOLAND Beach Retreat get Early Park Access?
No. Early Park Access, 30 minutes before regular opening to select areas, is for guests of the LEGOLAND Hotel and Pirate Island Hotel (plus top-tier annual passholders), and LEGOLAND’s help center states that Beach Retreat guests are not eligible. Beach Retreat guests do get the free park shuttle, free theme park parking before check-in and, with most bookings, breakfast at Sandy’s Castle.
Bottom line
For most families with kids between 2 and 10, the LEGOLAND Hotel is the safer pick: more themes, the slide and the fullest entertainment program, with the Pirate Island Hotel a near-equal that wins on lake views, suites for seven and a pool with no slide. The Beach Retreat is the value play for younger kids who will spend afternoons at a beach pool, provided it is open and you can skip Early Park Access.
