Orlando in April is warm, mostly dry and still busy: average highs climb from about 81°F to 86°F over the month, rain falls on only about six days, and the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is in full bloom. In 2027 the month also brings the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend, the Florida Film Festival and, if Universal’s schedule holds, a freshly reopened Volcano Bay.
One calendar quirk shapes April 2027: Easter Sunday falls early, on March 28, so Holy Week lands in March, but the Easter school holidays still spill into April. This guide uses NOAA’s 1991–2020 climate normals for Orlando International Airport, official school calendars and the 2027 dates published as of October 14, 2026. Dates and policies change, so confirm on the official pages before you book.
Quick answer: Expect highs in the low to mid-80s, lows near 60°F and about 2.6 inches of rain over roughly six days. Going by official school calendars, April 12–18 has the fewest overlapping breaks. April 1–11 carries the tail of the Easter holidays plus runDisney’s April 8–11 race weekend, and April 19–30 brings Boston’s and New York City’s spring recesses. Flower & Garden runs all month, Volcano Bay is due back on or before April 1, and Typhoon Lagoon had no reopening date at the time of writing. Pack sunscreen and a light layer, and book a refundable room early.

Orlando weather in April
NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport put the April average high at 83.6°F and the average low at 60.7°F, nearly five degrees warmer than March. The daily normals climb steadily: a typical April 1 runs from about 58°F to 81°F, and a typical April 30 from about 63°F to 86°F.

Rain rarely wrecks an April day. The daily normals give each day about a 22% chance of measurable rain, and only 1.8 days a month bring half an inch or more, against 16.2 rainy days and about 8 inches of rain in June. Only November averages fewer days with rain (6.0).
Days are long, too: sunset in Orlando moves from about 7:45 p.m. at the start of April to about 8 p.m. at the end, while sunrise moves from about 7:15 to 6:45 a.m. The Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t begin until June 1. Disney and Universal don’t publish crowd forecasts, so this is our reading of official school calendars (checked in October 2026), not a prediction. The more breaks your dates overlap, the busier the parks are likely to be.

The English councils we checked end the spring term on March 25 and set Easter holidays through April 9 for the schools they run; academies and some other schools set their own dates. Scotland runs later: Edinburgh’s council schools are off from April 5 to 19.
April 1–11: the Easter tail and race weekend
The English Easter holidays run to April 9, and Edinburgh and Gwinnett County, Georgia, both start their breaks on April 5. The runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend follows from April 8 to 11, and the Florida Film Festival opens on April 9. On paper, this is the busiest stretch of the month.
April 12–18: the likely calm window
English schools are back on April 12, and none of the US calendars in our table has a break this week; only Edinburgh is still off. If your dates are flexible, this is the week to aim for.
April 19–30: Boston, Passover and New York
Patriots’ Day is Monday, April 19, and Boston Public Schools follow it with spring recess from April 20 to 23. Passover begins at sundown on April 21 and runs through April 29, and New York City public schools close for Spring Recess from Thursday, April 22 through Friday, April 30. Orange County’s own students get Friday, April 23 off, which can add local visitors that weekend.

EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival
Disney lists the 2027 festival from March 10 to May 31, so it runs through all of April. It’s included with valid EPCOT admission, though Disney notes that a park reservation may be required depending on your ticket type. The 2027 lineup hadn’t been announced at the time of writing. Highlights of the 2026 edition included gardens and character topiaries, the Garden Rocks concert series at America Gardens Theatre and festival-only Outdoor Kitchens.

runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend
The 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend runs April 8–11 with races themed on Walt Disney Animation Studios films. The 5K is on Friday, April 9, with start groups from 4:30 a.m., which runDisney says is 30 minutes earlier than before. The 10K follows on Saturday, April 10, and the 10-Miler on Sunday, April 11, both starting at 5 a.m. The Challenge combines all three races for 19.3 miles.
You must collect your bib at the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at least one day before your first race; it’s open April 8–10. General registration opened on July 7, 2026, and runDisney listed all four races (5K, 10K, 10-Miler and Challenge) as sold out when we checked on October 14, 2026. Florida Film Festival
Enzian’s 36th Florida Film Festival is scheduled for April 9–18, 2027, according to the festival’s call for entries. The festival’s site describes its 2026 edition as an Oscar-qualifying event with 10 days of more than 160 films at Enzian, the non-profit cinema at 1300 South Orlando Avenue in Maitland, about 16 miles by road from the Universal area and 24 from Disney Springs.
Orlando City and the MLS Sprint Season
Major League Soccer is moving to a summer-to-spring calendar, and 2027 opens with a shortened Sprint Season. MLS says each team plays 14 regular-season matches from February to April, seven of them at home, with the playoffs and MLS Cup in May.
Orlando City plays its home matches at Inter&Co Stadium, now styled Inter.co Stadium, in downtown Orlando, about 9 miles by road from the Universal area and 17 from Disney Springs. The match schedule hadn’t been released when we checked, so look for April home dates on the club’s site.
What is not in April 2027
Easter Sunday is March 28, so Holy Week runs March 21–28 and Good Friday (March 26) and Easter Monday (March 29) are both in March. Universal Mardi Gras ends on March 27. If an Easter-week trip is the plan, our Orlando in March guide covers those dates.
Water parks and pools in April 2027
- Universal Volcano Bay: Universal is closing it for maintenance from October 26, 2026 and plans to reopen it on or before April 1, 2027. Universal says dates are subject to change.
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: temporarily closed for refurbishment, with no reopening date on Disney’s calendar when we checked in October 2026. Disney suggests Blizzard Beach in the meantime.
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach: Disney says its pool and water areas are heated to about 81°F, and Melt-Away Bay is a heated, one-acre wave pool. Same-day weather closures can happen with little notice.
- Disney Water Park Seasonal Pass: at the time of writing, Disney advertised it at $89 plus tax, valid through May 15, 2027, with blockout dates.
- Hotel pools: with mornings near 60°F, an unheated pool can feel cool early in the day. Trust only the hotel’s own statement about heating.

Park hours, early entry and ride closures
- Disney Early Theme Park Entry: guests of Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels can enter any Disney theme park 30 minutes early every day of their stay, and Disney says the benefit continues through 2027. Valid admission is required.
- Extended Evening Hours: select parks stay open later on select nights for guests of Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts and a handful of other hotels on Disney property, including the Swan.
- Lightning Lane window: guests of Disney Resort hotels and a few other select hotels can buy Lightning Lane passes 7 days before their stay; everyone else gets 3 days.
- Universal Early Park Admission: Universal hotel guests can enter a theme park up to an hour early at select attractions with valid admission. At the time of writing, Universal’s page listed dates only through November 30, 2026, so April’s parks and attractions weren’t known yet.
- Closures: Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom has been closed since July 6, 2026, and Disney expects it back in late spring 2027, so it may still be closed in April.
Where to stay in Orlando in April
Match the base to the reason for your trip:
- Flower & Garden and Disney park days: stay where you can walk to EPCOT or ride a short shuttle, ideally with Early Theme Park Entry.
- runDisney weekend: stay on or next to Disney property, and sort out race-morning transport before you book.
- Universal and Volcano Bay: an on-site Universal hotel gives you Early Park Admission and free transportation to the parks.

Walt Disney World Swan: walk to Flower & Garden
The Marriott-run Swan at 1200 Epcot Resorts Boulevard lets you treat Flower & Garden as several short visits. By our walking route, it’s about 0.7 mile, roughly 15 minutes, from the hotel’s lakeside (about 0.8 mile from the main entrance) to EPCOT’s International Gateway, which opens into World Showcase. FriendShip water taxis also run to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios about every 20 to 25 minutes, starting an hour before the parks open. Swan guests get Early Theme Park Entry, Extended Evening Hours, the 7-day Lightning Lane window and free standard theme park parking. Our Walt Disney World Swan review covers rooms, pools and dining.
- Good to know: at the time of writing, the resort listed a mandatory resort service package of $50 plus tax per day for two guests (covering Wi-Fi and activities), self-parking at $40 plus tax a day and valet at $51 to $61 plus tax. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Holiday Inn Orlando – Disney Springs Area: early entry on a budget
This Holiday Inn at 1805 Hotel Plaza Boulevard appears on Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry list as Holiday Inn Orlando, so you get the 30-minute head start at all four parks. The Marketplace end of Disney Springs is about 0.55 mile on foot by our route over the Hotel Plaza pedestrian bridge (the hotel says 7 to 10 minutes), and the hotel runs hourly shuttles to all four Disney theme parks, bookable up to 48 hours ahead at the front desk or with a QR code. - Good to know: the hotel says its shuttles don’t run for special events such as the marathon, so runDisney runners should plan their own race-morning transport. At the time of writing, it listed a $39 per night resort fee plus tax (which covers the park shuttle) and standard parking at $27 per day plus tax. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Universal Aventura Hotel: next door to Volcano Bay
Aventura is a 600-room glass tower at 6725 Adventure Way, on the Volcano Bay side of Universal Orlando. Loews describes it as within walking distance of Volcano Bay, and Universal says a dedicated walking path links it to the water park; Loews notes that the path is unavailable while Volcano Bay is closed. Guests get Early Park Admission, which Loews says now includes Epic Universe, plus complimentary transportation around the resort. A rooftop bar looks out over the parks. - Good to know: at the time of writing, Loews listed overnight self-parking at $30 plus tax per vehicle, check-in at 4 p.m., a minimum booking age of 21, complimentary Pack ‘n Plays and no pets. Universal Express isn’t included. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Is Volcano Bay open in April 2027?
It should be.
