The best hotels in Melbourne FL fall into two groups. Four oceanfront hotels line a 1.5-mile stretch of State Road A1A on the barrier island, just north of Indialantic. Three more sit on the mainland: one in Historic Downtown Melbourne and two near Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB). Orlando International Airport is about 65 miles away by road, roughly an hour and 20 minutes without traffic.
Melbourne is the quieter, southern end of Florida’s Space Coast. The beach hotels here have none of the pier crowds or big souvenir shops of Cocoa Beach, about 17 miles to the north, but they’re still within an hour of Kennedy Space Center and about half an hour of Brevard Zoo. It works well as a beach add-on to an Orlando trip, for a weekend at the ocean, or as a base if you’re flying into MLB.
We’ve compared the seven hotels below on location, verified amenities, parking, pets and shuttles. To compare other beach towns first, start with our guide to beaches near Orlando.
Quick answer: For a classic full-service beach hotel, book Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront. Families who want more space should look at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront, where every room is a two-room suite. Element Melbourne Oceanfront adds kitchens, free breakfast and an ocean-view rooftop pool. Crowne Plaza Melbourne-Oceanfront has a beach bar, pet-friendly rooms and free local shuttles. On the mainland, Hotel Melby is the stylish downtown pick with a rooftop bar, Hilton Melbourne, FL is closest to the airport with a free shuttle, and Residence Inn Melbourne suits longer stays with full kitchens and free parking.

How we chose these Melbourne hotels
We looked at hotels in the city of Melbourne and on its beachside, with a mailing address in Melbourne, and checked each one on its official Hilton, IHG, Marriott or hotel website. Brand sites block automated visits, so for most of them we used archived copies of the official pages, captured between November 2025 and August 2026. Where a figure comes from an older capture we say “at last check.” Hotel Melby’s own website was checked live in October 2026.
Our criteria were simple: a beachfront or genuinely central location, amenities listed by the hotel itself, parking and pet rules, and practical transport such as airport shuttles. Road distances come from OSRM routes run in October 2026, with times for light traffic. We haven’t stayed at these hotels and don’t publish ratings, scores or fixed prices. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

1. Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront

This is the most complete beach resort of the group. The hotel stands at 3003 North Highway A1A, overlooking the Atlantic with direct beach access, and Hilton lists an outdoor pool, ocean-view balconies, a fitness center and beach chair and watersport rentals. Dining covers three spots: Ocean Grille for ocean views, Florida dishes and kids’ specials, the poolside Atlantic Blue Beach Bar, and the Atrium Lounge for drinks. Room service is available too.
It’s the northernmost of the four beach hotels, so it’s a few minutes closer to Satellite Beach and Patrick Space Force Base. Hilton describes Brevard Zoo and downtown Melbourne as each within 15 minutes; by road, downtown is about 6 miles and the zoo about 16.5 miles, or roughly 25 minutes.
- Why stay: A big oceanfront hotel with a pool deck, beach rentals and three places to eat and drink on site.
- Getting there / to the parks: No airport shuttle. MLB is about 8 miles (20 minutes) by road. Orlando International is about 64 miles (around 1 hour 20 minutes), against Hilton’s figure of 55 miles. Disney Springs is about 78 miles and Universal about 73.
- Good to know: At last check (June 2026), Hilton listed covered self-parking at $18 a day, up from $16 in 2025. No valet, and pets aren’t allowed. The hotel page also listed standard Wi-Fi at $9.95, so check what your rate includes.
Best for: Couples and families who want the classic full-service beach hotel, with dining on site.

2. Crowne Plaza Melbourne-Oceanfront

The Crowne Plaza at 2605 North A1A has 290 rooms on eight floors, according to IHG. Standard rooms are 270 to 385 square feet with one king, one queen or two queens. One-bedroom suites run 550 to 800 square feet, and IHG says all suites are oceanfront with balconies. The heated outdoor pool is open year-round and faces the ocean.
Its social hub is Longboards Oceanfront Grille, an indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar on the ocean deck that also serves the pool and beach. IHG lists live entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can rent beach chairs, umbrellas and paddleboards on site.
- Why stay: Free local shuttle, a lively beach bar and a pet policy that welcomes larger dogs.
- Getting there / to the parks: IHG lists a free shuttle to and from Melbourne Orlando International Airport, about 8.5 miles by road (7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on its amenities page). The local shuttle runs 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. within a three-mile radius on one IHG page and “within five miles” on another, so confirm the range at the front desk. Kennedy Space Center is about 36 miles (an hour) by road.
- Good to know: At last check (August 2026), IHG listed parking “at a charge” and said valet parking is included in a resort fee, but didn’t give the amount, so ask the hotel what the resort fee costs and covers. Dogs cost $35 a night (charged for a maximum of three nights), with a 75-pound limit, two per room and possible breed restrictions; IHG’s summary says all pets are allowed, so confirm before bringing another animal. The minimum check-in age is 21.
Best for: Travelers with a dog, groups who want a beach bar scene, and anyone flying into MLB without a car.

In-room kitchens are a brand feature here, and some rooms have a fully equipped kitchen.
Element’s free “Rise” breakfast, served daily from 6:30 to 10 a.m. at last check, includes hot items. Along with the kitchens, it keeps food costs down on a longer beach stay.
- Why stay: A modern hotel with kitchens, free breakfast and an ocean-view rooftop pool.

Best for: Families and longer stays that want a kitchen and breakfast without giving up the oceanfront.
4. DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront

Every room here is a two-room suite, which makes this the easy pick for families. Hilton lists king suites for up to four guests and two-queen suites for up to six, each with a separate living room, a sofa bed, a dining table, a mini-fridge, a microwave and a coffee maker. Many suites have ocean views and a balcony, while ground-level suites come with an oversized patio instead.
The hotel at 1665 North A1A is the southernmost of the four, closest to Indialantic and downtown Melbourne (about 4 miles). It has a heated outdoor pool with a hot tub, a fitness center, and Sea Grapes Restaurant and Lounge for American dishes by the pool deck. Howard E. Futch Memorial Park at Paradise Beach, which Brevard County’s tourism office lists at 2301 A1A, is a short way north. The office describes it as a family beach park with a playground and seasonal lifeguards.

How to choose between hotels in Melbourne FL
Beachside or mainland
If the trip is about the ocean, stay on A1A. All four beachside picks sit on the sand, and the Crowne Plaza and the Element stand side by side. The mainland hotels are closer to the airport and I-95, and the two near MLB charge less for parking, but you’ll drive about 10 to 15 minutes over the causeway to reach the beach.
Drive times from Melbourne
| From | Orlando airport (MCO) | Disney Springs | Kennedy Space Center |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach hotels on A1A | About 64–66 mi, 1 h 20–25 | About 78–80 mi, 1 h 40–45 | About 36–38 mi, 1 h |
| Downtown and MLB area | About 63–65 mi, 1 h 20 | About 68 mi, 1 h 35 | About 36–42 mi, 1 h |
Times are OSRM estimates for light traffic. The usual route to Orlando’s airport uses I-95 and SR 528, a toll road; see our guide to Orlando toll roads for how rental-car tolling works. Universal Orlando is about 68 to 75 miles from Melbourne, so a park day is a long round trip. If the parks are the main event, split the trip and use our guide to where to stay in Orlando for that part.
Melbourne or Cocoa Beach
Cocoa Beach is closer to everything to the north: about 15 to 20 minutes nearer Orlando International and roughly half an hour from Kennedy Space Center, against an hour from Melbourne. It also has the famous pier, more bars and a busier strip. Melbourne’s beachside is quieter and more residential, with Brevard Zoo and a real downtown close by. Compare the options in our guide to the best hotels in Cocoa Beach. If you’re sailing, our list of hotels near Port Canaveral covers the cruise-shuttle hotels.
Rocket launches and Kennedy Space Center
The Space Coast tourism office says you can see launches from almost anywhere on the Space Coast. The pads at Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center are well north of Melbourne, though, so from these beaches a launch is a distant streak in the northern sky rather than a close-up view. Launch times often slip, so check the schedule on the day. For closer viewing, see our hotels near Kennedy Space Center, and our Kennedy Space Center guide for tickets and a day-trip plan.
Brevard Zoo
Brevard Zoo, at 8225 North Wickham Road, is about 25 to 30 minutes from any of these hotels. It’s open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission 4:15 p.m.) every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and parking is free. At the time of writing, adult tickets were $34.95 online and children 3 to 11 were $22.95, with under-3s free. Feedings, kayak tours and the train cost extra. The zoo’s Paws On area was closed for renovation, with reopening planned for November.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Melbourne, Florida, from Orlando and the theme parks?
By road, Melbourne is about 63 to 66 miles from Orlando International Airport, around an hour and 20 minutes in light traffic. Disney Springs is about 68 miles from downtown Melbourne and about 78 to 80 miles from the beach hotels, so allow 1.5 to 2 hours each way. Universal is about 68 to 75 miles. For several park days, it’s easier to stay in Orlando for that part of the trip.
Is Melbourne or Cocoa Beach better for a beach stay?
Choose Cocoa Beach if you want the pier, a busy bar scene and shorter drives to Orlando, Port Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center (about 30 minutes, against an hour from Melbourne). Choose Melbourne for quieter beaches, a walkable downtown and Brevard Zoo nearby. Melbourne also has its own airport, MLB, and three of our picks list a free shuttle to it.
Can you see rocket launches from Melbourne Beach?
Often, yes, on a clear day. Brevard County’s tourism office says launches can be seen from almost anywhere on the Space Coast. But the launch pads are far to the north, so from Melbourne you’ll see the rocket climbing in the distance rather than lifting off. Check the launch schedule on the day, since times often change. Then head to an open stretch of beach with a view north.
Which Melbourne FL hotels have an airport shuttle?
At last check, Hilton Melbourne, FL ran a free shuttle to Melbourne Orlando International Airport from 6 a.m. to midnight. Crowne Plaza Melbourne-Oceanfront and Element Melbourne Oceanfront also listed complimentary airport shuttles, and the Crowne Plaza runs a free local shuttle as well. None of the seven hotels lists a shuttle to Orlando International or the theme parks, so plan on a rental car or a private transfer.
Which hotels in Melbourne FL allow pets?
Four of our picks allow pets at last check. Crowne Plaza charges $35 a night (maximum three nights), up to 75 pounds. Element charges $50 a night up to $150 per stay, up to 40 pounds. Hotel Melby charges a $75 non-refundable fee, up to 50 pounds, and Residence Inn charges $150 per stay. Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront, the DoubleTree Suites and Hilton Melbourne don’t allow pets.
Do Melbourne FL beach hotels charge for parking?
Yes, all four oceanfront hotels charged for parking at last check. Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront and the DoubleTree Suites listed $18 a day for self-parking, and Element listed valet only at $20 a day. Crowne Plaza lists parking at a charge and a resort fee that includes valet, without a published amount. On the mainland, Residence Inn parking is free and Hilton Melbourne was $10 a day.
Bottom line
For the beach, Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront is the all-round pick, the DoubleTree Suites gives families the most room, and Element adds kitchens and free breakfast. Book Hotel Melby for a walkable downtown weekend, and Hilton Melbourne or Residence Inn if you’re flying into MLB or staying a week. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book, so compare your dates.
