Orlando in June is hot, humid and busy: NOAA’s 1991–2020 climate normals for Orlando International Airport put the average high at 90.8°F, thunderstorms bring rain on about 16 days, and summer break fills the parks as school years end. June 1 is also the first day of the Atlantic hurricane season.

None of that makes June a bad month. Days are long, the water parks are in full swing, and park mornings are at their best before the heat and storms build. This guide uses NOAA, National Weather Service (NWS) and National Hurricane Center (NHC) data, official school calendars and 2027 dates published by October 14, 2026; confirm them before you book.

Quick answer: Expect highs around 91°F, lows near 72°F, about 8 inches of rain and frequent afternoon storms. On the school calendars we checked, June 7–17 overlaps the fewest breaks: Orlando’s and Gwinnett County’s schools finish May 26, while Boston’s run to June 22 and New York City’s to June 28. Two LGBTQ+ events run June 3–7 at their host hotels, and Juneteenth (observed Friday, June 18) plus Father’s Day make a long weekend. EPCOT has no festival in June, Volcano Bay should be open again, and Typhoon Lagoon had no reopening date. Do the parks early, keep afternoons for the pool and book a refundable room.

Orlando weather in June

NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport give June an average high of 90.8°F and an average low of 71.6°F. It is also the wettest month of the year, with 8.05 inches of rain, just ahead of August (7.69) and July (7.46).

NOAA’s daily normals run from 69.5°F to 90.0°F on June 1 and from 72.9°F to 91.5°F on June 30, and the daily chance of measurable rain climbs from about 42 to 55 percent over the month. Only about six nights cool to 70°F or below, and a 100°F day is rare (0.1 a month on average). The sun sets between about 8:20 and 8:30 p.m., giving close to 14 hours of daylight.

Our Orlando weather by month guide compares June with the rest of the year, and our guide to the best time to visit Orlando weighs weather against crowds.

Afternoon thunderstorms and lightning

June rain rarely lasts all day. NWS Melbourne, the forecast office for the Orlando area, calls the summer pattern the “Florida Rain Machine”: the Gulf and Atlantic sea breezes collide over the peninsula, and the collision “often produces widespread storms with frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.”

The NWS gives May 27 as the median start of Orlando’s wet season. It calls the corridor from Tampa Bay to Titusville, which runs through Orlando, “Lightning Alley”: it gets the most lightning in the US, and more than 90 percent of it strikes from May through October, between noon and midnight.

The rule is short: “When thunder roars, go indoors.” NWS Melbourne notes that lightning can strike more than 10 miles from a storm and advises staying under cover until 30 minutes after the last thunder. Outdoor rides, pools and water parks pause when lightning is close, so a storm often costs an hour or two rather than the whole day. Keep indoor shows or a hotel break for mid-afternoon.

How to handle the heat on a June park day

On the NWS heat index chart, 90°F at 60 percent relative humidity feels like 100°F, in the “extreme caution” band, and full sunshine can add up to 15°F.

  • Start early: the hours after opening are usually the coolest and driest of the day, and early entry perks add 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Take a midday break: go back to the pool or a cool room between lunch and the storms, which is easiest from a hotel close to the parks.
  • Carry water and snacks: Disney’s park rules allow bags and coolers up to 24 x 15 x 18 inches, but no loose or dry ice (reusable ice packs are recommended) and no glass except small containers such as baby food jars.
  • Know the warning signs: the NWS lists heavy sweating, weakness, cool, clammy skin, dizziness, nausea and headache among signs of heat exhaustion; move to air conditioning, apply cool, wet cloths and sip water. Confusion, a body temperature above 103°F and hot, red skin point to heat stroke: call 911.

Hurricane season starts June 1

The NHC’s Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and June is its quiet start. In an average season (1991–2020), the first named storm forms by about June 20 and the first hurricane by about August 11, and the NHC puts the season’s peak on September 10. The NHC adds that individual seasons can vary considerably from these dates.

Check the NHC’s outlooks in the week before you fly and favor rates you can cancel. Universal’s storm policy covers only direct bookings, as Disney’s did at our last full check; a Booking.com reservation follows the cancellation terms of the rate you booked. Our Orlando hurricane season guide covers park policies and storm plans.

Orlando crowds in June 2027, week by week

Disney and Universal don’t publish crowd forecasts, so this is our reading of official school calendars (checked in October 2026), not a prediction. Much of the US is on summer break all month; what changes is how many more calendars overlap your dates.

May 29 – June 6: Memorial Day, half-term and two LGBTQ+ events

Memorial Day is Monday, May 31, and the Kent, Hampshire and Surrey council calendars put England’s half-term at May 31 to June 4 (academies may set their own dates). GayDays and One Magical Weekend both run June 3–7. For the holiday weekend itself, see our Orlando in May guide.

June 7–17: the fewest overlapping breaks

Those English council schools are back on June 7, and New York City and Boston are still in class, so of the calendars in our table only Orange County’s and Gwinnett’s are on break. If your dates are flexible, this is the stretch to aim for.

June 18–20: Juneteenth and Father’s Day

Juneteenth falls on Saturday, June 19, 2027, so the federal holiday is observed on Friday, June 18, per the US Office of Personnel Management. Father’s Day follows on Sunday, June 20, making a long weekend.

June 21–30: the Northeast joins in

Boston’s last day is June 22, New York City’s June 28 and Edinburgh’s June 29. Independence Day falls on a Sunday in 2027 and is observed Monday, July 5, so late June runs into the holiday build-up; our Orlando in July guide picks up from there.

No EPCOT festival in June

Disney lists the 2027 Flower & Garden Festival from March 10 to May 31 and hadn’t announced 2027 Food & Wine dates when we checked (the 2026 festival opened August 27). On the dates published so far, June 2027 falls between festivals, so World Showcase runs without festival booths or concerts.

GayDays and One Magical Weekend

These two LGBTQ+ events are run by independent organizers, not by Disney or Universal, and both list June 3–7, 2027, with pool parties and nightlife at their host hotels. Orlando’s main Pride celebration, Come Out With Pride, is held each October around National Coming Out Day (at Lake Eola Park on October 17 in 2026).

SeaWorld Electric Ocean

SeaWorld Orlando lists Electric Ocean for May to September 2027, inviting guests to “stay late all summer.” The 2026 edition had DJ dance parties, a drone show and fireworks; 2027 details weren’t posted yet.

Water parks and pools in June 2027

  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach: Disney says at least one of its water parks is open each day except in inclement weather. Full-day closures appear on its calendar at least a day ahead, but same-day closures can come with little notice.
  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: temporarily closed for refurbishment, with no reopening date on Disney’s calendar in October 2026.
  • Universal Volcano Bay: closes for maintenance on October 26, 2026, with a planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027. Universal says dates are subject to change.
  • Aquatica Orlando: its Weather-or-Not Assurance gives a return visit if rides close for over 60 minutes because of lightning, wind, heat or rain, or if the heat index reaches 110°F; request it within a week (Pass Members and some tickets don’t qualify).
  • Island H2O Water Park: the Kissimmee park calls itself seasonal, operating from March to October.
  • Passes: Disney’s current Water Park Seasonal Pass runs only through May 15, 2027.

Arrive at opening, before the afternoon storms. Our Orlando water parks guide covers tickets, parking and each park’s season.

Park perks, hours and closures

  • Disney Early Theme Park Entry: guests of Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels enter any Disney theme park 30 minutes early every day of their stay, a benefit Disney says continues through 2027.
  • Universal Early Park Admission: Universal hotel guests get up to an hour early at select attractions, but Universal had listed dates only through November 30, 2026.
  • Hours and closures: check June 2027 park hours closer to your trip. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, closed since July 6, 2026, is expected back in late spring 2027.

Where to stay in Orlando in June

In June, a pool that cools you off matters more than a heated one, and a lazy river is the easiest plan while storms build. Here are three, all sold on Booking.com: one on the Disney side with Early Entry, one at Universal next to Volcano Bay and one just off International Drive near SeaWorld and Aquatica. Our guide to Orlando hotels with lazy rivers has more.

Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek: lazy river plus Disney Early Entry

Signia, at 14100 Bonnet Creek Resort Lane beside Walt Disney World, has a 3-acre lazy river, a zero-entry lagoon-style pool and a waterslide (48 inches without a life jacket, 40 with one), and says it adjusts pool temperatures by season so the water feels cool on warm days. Guests get Disney’s 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry and a shuttle to all four Disney theme parks and Disney Springs. By road it’s about 3 miles to Disney Springs and 5 to EPCOT’s main lot. Our Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek review covers rooms and dining.

  • Good to know: at the time of writing, the resort charge was $50 plus tax per room per night, covering Wi-Fi for two devices, the Disney shuttle, four lazy river tubes (first come, first served), a kids’-menu dinner for children 12 and under (one per adult entrée at La Luce or Harvest Bistro, per the FAQ) and free breakfast for kids 5 and under with an adult entrée. Parking is $40 self and $60 valet a day plus tax. Signia calls the shuttle continuous, but it skips the water parks, and the operator’s October 2026 timetable had afternoon gaps of two hours or more on some routes. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort: lazy river, bowling and Volcano Bay

Cabana Bay, at 6550 Adventure Way, has two sand-beach pools: one with a dive-tower waterslide, the other next to a lazy river (tubes are sold separately). For stormy afternoons there’s Galaxy Bowl, ten lanes with a table-service restaurant, and the Game-O-Rama arcade. Universal lists walking paths and shuttle buses to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay. Early Park Admission, per Loews’ terms, can apply to Volcano Bay (weather permitting) and Epic Universe. The 1,280 standard rooms sleep four and the 920 family suites with kitchenettes sleep six. See our Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort review.

  • Good to know: at the time of writing, Loews listed overnight self-parking at $26 plus tax per vehicle, check-in at 4 p.m., a minimum booking age of 21 and no pets, and neither Loews nor Universal lists a resort fee. Universal Express isn’t included. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Hilton Orlando: an 892-foot lazy river near SeaWorld and Aquatica

The Hilton Orlando, at 6001 Destination Parkway by the convention center, has an 892-foot lazy river with complimentary tubes, a zero-entry main pool it calls temperature-controlled year-round, a waterslide (48-inch minimum, limited daily schedule), a splash pad and an adults-only pool for guests 18 and over. Aquatica is about 1.5 miles away by road and SeaWorld about 2. The resort charge covers a scheduled round-trip shuttle to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (reservations required) and two daily I-Ride Trolley passes; free transportation to Universal’s theme parks is booked in person at the lobby’s Universal desk. Read our Hilton Orlando review.

  • Good to know: at the time of writing, the daily resort charge was $47 plus tax per room, also covering Wi-Fi and the fitness center, and the hotel listed a $2.25 destination marketing tax on top of 12.5 percent room taxes. Parking is $38 self and $50 valet per night plus tax, check-in is at 3 p.m. and the minimum check-in age is 18. There’s no Disney Early Entry. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

What to pack for Orlando in June

  • Light, quick-dry clothes: plus a spare shirt for humid afternoons.
  • A poncho: for the 16 or so rainy days in a typical June.
  • Sun protection: sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
  • A refillable water bottle: and a soft cooler with reusable ice packs, since Disney bans loose ice.
  • Swimsuit and water shoes: for lazy rivers, pools and water parks.

Frequently asked questions

Is June a good time to visit Orlando?

Yes, if you plan around the heat and storms. June averages a high of 90.8°F with rain on about 16 days, mostly in the afternoon, and summer break keeps the parks busy. On the school calendars we checked, June 7–17, 2027 overlaps the fewest breaks, while late June adds Boston’s and New York City’s summer holidays.

How hot is Orlando in June?

Hot and humid. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport give June an average high of 90.8°F and a low of 71.6°F, with about 20 days at 90°F or above. On the NWS heat index chart, 90°F at 60 percent humidity feels like 100°F, and full sun can add up to 15°F, so plan shade, water and a midday break.

Does it rain every day in Orlando in June?

Not every day, but often. June is Orlando’s wettest month, with 8.05 inches of rain on about 16 days, and the daily chance of measurable rain rises from about 42 to 55 percent over the month. Most falls in afternoon thunderstorms set off by colliding sea breezes, so mornings are usually drier.

Is Disney World busy in June 2027?

Yes, June is summer break for much of the US. Going by official school calendars, the busiest overlaps are the first week (Memorial Day, England’s half-term and two LGBTQ+ events June 3–7), the Juneteenth and Father’s Day weekend of June 18–20, and late June, when Boston and New York City schools finish. June 7–17 overlaps the fewest breaks.

Is June hurricane season in Orlando?

Yes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, but June is usually quiet: in an average season (1991–2020), the first named storm forms by about June 20 and the first hurricane by about August 11, and the NHC puts the peak on September 10. Still, watch the NHC outlooks before you fly and book a rate you can cancel.

Are the Orlando water parks open in June 2027?

Most should be. Universal plans to reopen Volcano Bay on or before April 1, 2027, Aquatica offers a Weather-or-Not Assurance, and Island H2O is a March-to-October park. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon had no reopening date at the time of writing, so Blizzard Beach is the Disney water park to count on. Storms can close any of them for a while.

Bottom line

Orlando in June means 90-degree afternoons, frequent storms and summer crowds, but also long days, open water parks and cooler early mornings. Aim for June 7–17 if you can, do the parks early, keep afternoons for a lazy river or indoor plans, and book a refundable rate now that hurricane season has begun.
