Orlando in July is the hottest, busiest stretch of summer: NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport put the average high at 92.0°F, the highest of any month, rain falls on about 17 days and most US and Canadian schools are on break. The Fourth of July usually brings fireworks to the theme parks and to downtown’s Lake Eola.
In 2027, Independence Day is a Sunday, so the federal holiday is Monday, July 5, and Canada Day is Thursday, July 1, the day Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is due to open. We used NOAA, National Weather Service (NWS) and National Hurricane Center (NHC) data, official school calendars and dates published as of October 14, 2026, showing the official 2026 plans where 2027’s weren’t out.
Quick answer: Expect highs in the low 90s, lows near 73°F and about 7.5 inches of rain over 17 days, mostly in afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Do the parks in the morning, take a pool or indoor break after lunch and save fireworks for after dark. On school and holiday calendars, July 6–21 overlaps the fewest breaks. Hurricane season has begun but is still young, so book a refundable rate.

Orlando weather in July
NOAA’s normals give July an average high of 92.0°F and a low of 73.2°F, the highest average high of any month, by a whisker: August averages 91.6°F, with a slightly warmer low of 73.7°F. The daily normals barely move, from about 91.5°F and 72.9°F on July 1 to 92.2°F and 73.5°F on July 31.
| Measure | July normal | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Average high | 92.0°F | Highest of any month |
| Average low | 73.2°F | Warm, sticky nights |
| Rainfall | 7.46 in | Behind June and August |
| Days with rain | 17.1 | More than half the month |
| Days at 90°F or above | 25.4 | Most days reach 90°F |
| Days with 0.5 in or more | 5.0 | A real downpour about weekly |
Each July day has about a 55% chance of measurable rain, but only about five days a month bring half an inch or more. June is wetter (8.05 inches) and August has slightly more rainy days (17.2).
Sunrise is at about 6:30 a.m. and sunset about 8:30 p.m. on July 1, and 6:45 a.m. and 8:20 p.m. by July 31. Our Orlando weather by month guide compares July with the rest of the year, and our guide to the best time to visit Orlando adds crowds to the picture.
Heat and humidity: the heat index
On the NWS heat index chart, 92°F at 55% relative humidity feels like 101°F, in the “extreme caution” band, and at 60% it feels like 105°F, in the “danger” band; full sunshine can add up to 15°F. The NWS advises saving strenuous activity for the coolest hours, wearing lightweight, loose, light-colored clothing, drinking water even if you don’t feel thirsty and taking breaks in air conditioning. It calls heat stroke a severe medical emergency: call 911 and move the person somewhere cooler.
Afternoon storms and lightning
NWS Melbourne calls the corridor from Tampa Bay to Titusville, Orlando included, “Lightning Alley”: it gets the most lightning in the US, and more than 90% of it strikes from May through October, between noon and midnight. “July is the month for Lightning over the state of Florida,” its climatology adds.

Lightning can strike more than 10 miles from a storm, so the NWS rule is: when thunder roars, go indoors, and wait 30 minutes after the last thunder. In a Florida study it cites, most people struck were hit before the rain arrived or after it ended, and most were near water or trees. Expect pools and outdoor rides to pause during storms; our guide to things to do in Orlando when it rains has indoor ideas.
Hurricane season in July
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. In the NHC’s 1991–2020 climatology, an average season has its second named storm by July 17 and its first hurricane by August 11, and the NHC puts the season’s peak around September 10. Watch the NHC outlook before you travel and book refundable rates; a Booking.com stay follows the hotel’s own terms. Our Orlando hurricane season guide covers Disney’s and Universal’s storm policies.
Orlando crowds in July 2027, week by week
Disney and Universal don’t publish crowd forecasts, so this is our reading of official school calendars (checked in October 2026), not a prediction. Every system below is on break for at least part of July.
| School system | Summer 2027 | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Orange County Public Schools, Orlando | Last day May 26 | Local kids off all July |
| New York City public schools | Last day June 28 | Off all July |
| Toronto District School Board | Last day June 28–29 | Canada Day is Thu, July 1 |
| City of Edinburgh Council, Scotland | Term ends June 29 | Off all July |
| Kent and Hampshire councils, England | Holidays from July 22 | Term ends July 21 |
July 1–5: Canada Day and the Fourth of July weekend
Canada Day is Thursday, July 1, and the US Office of Personnel Management lists Independence Day (Sunday, July 4) as observed on Monday, July 5. New York City, Toronto and Edinburgh schools have just broken up, so on paper this is the busiest stretch of the month.
July 6–21: high summer before the English holidays
Kent and Hampshire council schools stay in class until July 21, so the two weeks after the holiday weekend overlap the fewest school breaks and holidays on our list. Major League Soccer says its 2027–28 season kicks off in mid-to-late July.
July 22–31: English schools break up
Kent and Hampshire council schools are off from Thursday, July 22 to August 31 (both councils note that not every school follows their dates), so British families join the North American crowd. Our Orlando in August guide follows the crowds as US schools go back, and our Orlando in June guide covers the weeks before.
Fourth of July 2027 in Orlando
No 2027 Fourth of July schedules were out at the time of writing; Universal’s summer page simply says to check back for 2027 details. Here is what each organizer announced for 2026, as a guide.

Walt Disney World
Disney’s fireworks page describes Independence Day celebrated “in the skies above EPCOT and Magic Kingdom park.” For America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, Disney scheduled Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky at Magic Kingdom for all three nights of the holiday weekend, July 3–5, and its July 2 news release added patriotic enhancements to EPCOT’s Luminous and a July 4 flyover of both parks by the U.S. Air Force Reserve, weather permitting.

Or watch from your hotel: our guide to hotels with views of Disney fireworks compares rooms that face the shows, including at Four Seasons Resort Orlando, one of our picks below.
Universal Orlando
Universal’s official blog set out its 2026 plan on June 25: fireworks at Epic Universe’s Cosmos Fountain at 9 p.m. and a fountain show at 10 p.m. Universal Studios Florida had the Universal Mega Movie Parade at 6 p.m., CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular at 9 p.m. and a brief pyrotechnics display over the Lagoon at 10 p.m.
Lake Eola: Fireworks at the Fountain
The City of Orlando’s 49th Fireworks at the Fountain, at Lake Eola Park (195 North Rosalind Avenue) on July 4, 2026, ran from 4 to 10 p.m., with the Orlando Concert Band at 8 p.m. and fireworks set to a custom score at 9:10 p.m. Roads around the park close, and the city points visitors to ride-share, LYNX buses and the free LYMMO downtown circulator.

The city may delay or cancel activities if lightning is detected, and it asks attendees to bring water, sunscreen and umbrellas. Lake Eola is about 9 miles by road from the Universal area and about 17 to 18 miles from Disney Springs.
Kissimmee: Monumental Fourth of July
Kissimmee’s Monumental Fourth of July at Kissimmee Lakefront Park, 201 Lakeview Drive, ran from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on July 4, 2026, with a fireworks finale at 9 p.m. The city listed free parking in the SunRail/Civic Center and Toho Square garages. The park is about 13 to 14 miles by road from Disney Springs.
Other events and openings in July 2027
- Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge (July 1): Disney is taking bookings for stays from July 1, 2027 at this new Bay Lake hotel, which it says will have water taxis to Magic Kingdom, a lazy river and a terrace facing the fireworks. It’s sold by Disney, not Booking.com.
- Orlando City (mid-to-late July): MLS says its 2027–28 regular season kicks off in mid-to-late July 2027; Orlando City plays at Inter&Co Stadium, now styled Inter.co Stadium, but the schedule wasn’t out.
- SeaWorld Electric Ocean: SeaWorld lists its after-dark summer event from May to September 2027, but no separate Fourth of July event. The 2026 edition ended with a drone show leading into Ignite, its fireworks spectacular.
- Not in July: EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival ends May 31, 2027, and in 2026 Food & Wine (August 27) and Halloween Horror Nights (August 28) opened in late August; neither had 2027 dates.
Water parks in July 2027
- Universal Volcano Bay: it closes for maintenance on October 26, 2026 and is due back on or before April 1, 2027, so it should be open in July; Universal says dates may change.
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: closed for refurbishment, with no reopening date when we checked on October 14, 2026; Disney points guests to Blizzard Beach.
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach: Disney says at least one of its water parks is open each day except in inclement weather, and same-day closures can come with little notice.
- Aquatica and SeaWorld: their Weather-or-Not Assurance offers a return visit if weather closes the park early, rides close for more than 60 minutes because of lightning, wind, heat or rain, or the heat index reaches 110°F. Request it within a week; Pass Member admission doesn’t qualify.
Where to stay in Orlando in July
Pick a base you can retreat to, with a pool or water park, something to do in a storm and an easy ride for early starts. Three options sold on Booking.com:
Four Seasons Resort Orlando: fireworks from your terrace

Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, inside Disney’s Golden Oak community, sells the fireworks view as a room type: Park View rooms (about 500 sq ft, for up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children) have private terraces with nightly views of the Walt Disney World fireworks, the resort says. Capa, its 17th-floor rooftop steakhouse, also faces the shows, though the resort notes that showtimes can change or be canceled in bad weather.
The five-acre Explorer Island water park, for resort guests only, has a beach-entry family pool, a lazy river with spray cannons, two 242-foot slides (42-inch minimum) and a splash zone, plus the complimentary Kids For All Seasons camp for ages 4 to 12. Guests get Disney’s 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry, which Disney says continues through 2027, and free buses run once an hour to each theme park. See our Four Seasons Resort Orlando guide.
- Good to know: parking is valet only, for a fee, and the resort’s January 2026 map lists a nightly resort fee of $55 per room plus tax, while Booking.com’s price breakdown showed US$60 plus tax in October 2026, so confirm the current amount. No Extended Evening Hours. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Universal Stella Nova Resort: walk to Epic Universe

Universal Stella Nova Resort, at 4500 Epic Boulevard, has a walking path to Epic Universe, where Universal staged its 2026 Fourth of July fireworks: by our route, it’s about 0.6 to 0.7 mile, roughly 15 minutes, to the entrance. Free shuttles run to Epic Universe and to CityWalk for the other parks. All 750 rooms are 315 sq ft with two queen beds for up to four.
The 10,000 sq ft pool has a kids’ splash pad, a hot tub, a fire pit and poolside movies (weather permitting), and a game room (fees apply) covers stormy hours. Guests get up to an hour of Early Park Admission at select attractions, including at Epic Universe (Universal had published dates only through November 30, 2026), and can use the twin hotel’s pool across the road, but not the main-campus pools. Read our Universal Stella Nova Resort review.
- Good to know: at the time of writing, Loews listed self-parking at $30 plus tax per night, $20 per extra adult beyond two, a minimum booking age of 21, free Pack ‘n Plays and no pets, with no resort fee listed. Express isn’t included. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

CoCo Key Hotel and Water Resort: shade, slides and an arcade

CoCo Key, at 7400 International Drive, is a 391-room Universal Partner Hotel built around its own 54,000 sq ft outdoor water park, about half of it under a canopy that the resort says keeps guests cool in the Florida sun. There are 14 slides and rides, two pools and splash zones, including the Parrot’s Perch play area, and the resort notes that lightning within 10 miles may affect operations. When storms close the slides, there’s a 6,500 sq ft indoor arcade.
The resort fee covers a scheduled shuttle to the Universal parks, reserved in person 24 hours ahead and not valid for Early Park Admission, plus one daily run to EPCOT at 9:50 a.m., returning at 5:45 p.m. See our CoCo Key Orlando review for rooms and slide heights.
- Good to know: at the time of writing, the resort listed a daily resort fee of $45 plus tax (waived on stays of seven nights or more) covering up to four water park tickets, Wi-Fi and the shuttles, plus self-parking at $15 and valet at $18 a day plus tax. Frequently asked questions
Is July a good time to visit Orlando?
It can be, if you plan around the heat and storms. July brings school-holiday crowds, an average high of 92.0°F and rain on about 17 days, but also long evenings, open water parks and Fourth of July fireworks. Families tied to school calendars get the most from it; flexible travelers may prefer spring or late fall.
How hot is Orlando in July?
Very hot and humid. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport give July an average high of 92.0°F, a low of 73.2°F and about 25 days at 90°F or more. On the NWS heat index chart, 92°F at 55% humidity feels like 101°F, so plan shade, water and air-conditioned breaks.
Does it rain every day in Orlando in July?
Not every day, but more often than not. NOAA’s normals show measurable rain on about 17 days in July, roughly a 55% chance on any given day, for 7.46 inches in total. Most of it falls in afternoon and evening thunderstorms, and lightning can pause rides and pools, so mornings are usually best for outdoor plans.
Where can I see Fourth of July fireworks in Orlando in 2027?
The 2027 schedules weren’t out at the time of writing. In 2026, Disney scheduled Magic Kingdom’s Celebrate America! fireworks for July 3–5, Epic Universe had a 9 p.m. show at the Cosmos Fountain, and the city shows at Lake Eola (9:10 p.m.) and Kissimmee Lakefront Park (9 p.m.) needed no theme park ticket.
Is Disney World crowded in July?
Expect summer crowds all month. The calendars we checked put Orlando, New York City, Toronto and Edinburgh schools on break by early July, and English council schools join from July 22. The July 1–5 stretch adds Canada Day and the Fourth of July, while July 6–21 overlaps the fewest breaks on our list. Disney prices tickets by date, so compare a few days.
Is July hurricane season in Orlando?
Yes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, but July is early in it: in an average 1991–2020 season, the NHC’s climatology shows the second named storm by July 17 and the first hurricane by August 11, and the NHC puts the peak around September 10. Book refundable rates and check the NHC outlook before you travel.
Bottom line
Orlando in July rewards a simple rhythm: parks early, pool or indoor time when the afternoon storms build and fireworks after dark. Aim for July 6–21 if your dates are flexible, check the 2027 Fourth of July plans as they’re announced and book a refundable rate at a hotel with a pool or water park you can reach in minutes.
