Rosen Shingle Creek vs Hyatt Regency Orlando mostly comes down to how you want to reach the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). Hyatt Regency Orlando is joined to it by two pedestrian bridges. Rosen Shingle Creek sits about 2 to 2.6 road miles away on Universal Boulevard, with its own golf course and no resort fee. Both are big convention hotels (1,641 and 1,501 rooms), and both are Universal Partner Hotels with free scheduled park buses.
For families, the Hyatt has a waterslide pool and an International Drive address, while Rosen Shingle Creek has four calmer pools on 255 acres and is closer to Epic Universe. We checked both hotels’ pages, the convention center’s pages and both Booking.com listings in October 2026; Hyatt’s own figures come from hyatt.com as archived on August 30, 2026.
Quick answer: Book Hyatt Regency Orlando if your event is in the OCCC’s West or North-South building and you want to walk there, or if your kids want a waterslide. Book Rosen Shingle Creek if your event is at Rosen Shingle Creek itself, you play golf, Epic Universe is your main park or you want to skip a resort fee. With self-parking, the Hyatt’s $48 resort fee and $45 parking add $93 a night before tax, against $36 plus tax at Rosen. Neither has a lazy river or a free Disney shuttle.

Rosen Shingle Creek: a golf resort with its own convention center
Rosen Shingle Creek opened on September 9, 2006 and belongs to Rosen Hotels & Resorts, the independent Orlando company founded by Harris Rosen. Its Mediterranean Revival hotel stands on 255 acres along Shingle Creek, which the hotel calls the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, and it says it has been rated AAA Four Diamond every year since 2007.
It is a convention venue in its own right, with 524,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 95,000-square-foot column-free ballroom. Add an 18-hole golf course, a spa, 15 places to eat and drink, and the fact sheet’s promise that “There is never a resort fee.” Our Rosen Shingle Creek review covers every room type and restaurant.

Hyatt Regency Orlando: the bridge to the convention center
Hyatt Regency Orlando stands at 9801 International Drive, across the street from the OCCC’s West building, with Pointe Orlando’s shops and restaurants about half a mile’s walk to the north. It has 1,641 rooms and 315,000 square feet of its own event space, and its pool complex is built around the waterfall Grotto Pool.
It belongs to Hyatt’s Regency brand, but World of Hyatt points and member benefits apply to bookings made directly with Hyatt, not to Booking.com reservations. Our Hyatt Regency Orlando review has more on its rooms, restaurants and spa.

Getting to the convention center halls
This is the Hyatt’s biggest advantage. According to the OCCC, the International Drive Pedestrian Bridge links Hyatt Regency Orlando with the West building near West Hall C (Level 2), and the Oversight Pedestrian Bridge connects the North-South building to the Hyatt and the West building. You can reach either building without crossing International Drive at street level.
Rosen Shingle Creek has no bridge. Its location page places it “a half-mile east” of the OCCC, but by road it is about 2 miles to the east side of the North-South building and 2.6 miles to the West building (OSRM, October 2026), and OpenStreetMap’s walking route is about 1.8 to 1.9 miles, roughly 40 minutes. Plan to drive, take a rideshare to the OCCC’s signed pick-up points or ride a show shuttle if your event runs one.
The OCCC charged $22 plus tax ($23.43) per standard vehicle at the time of writing, prices can rise for some events, and overnight parking isn’t allowed. The flip side: if your conference is held at Rosen Shingle Creek, it is the hotel you can walk to. For every bridged and walkable option, see our guide to hotels near the Orange County Convention Center.
Location and drive times to the parks
The hotels are about 2.5 road miles apart, so drive times are similar: Rosen Shingle Creek is closer to Epic Universe, the Hyatt a little closer to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and SeaWorld. These are OSRM routes on public roads to each park’s guest parking (October 2026); return trips can differ slightly.
| Destination | Rosen Shingle Creek | Hyatt Regency Orlando |
|---|---|---|
| Epic Universe (parking toll plaza) | About 1.7 mi | About 2.4 to 2.9 mi |
| Universal Studios / Islands of Adventure garages | About 4.7 to 5 mi | About 3.6 to 4.6 mi |
| SeaWorld Orlando | About 3 to 3.5 mi | About 2.4 to 2.7 mi |
| Disney Springs | About 7.7 mi | About 7.2 mi |
| EPCOT (parking toll plaza) | About 11.4 mi | About 10.8 mi |
| Magic Kingdom (TTC lot) | About 13.5 mi | About 12.9 mi |
| Orlando airport (MCO) | About 12 mi | About 13 mi |

Without traffic, Epic Universe is about seven minutes from Rosen Shingle Creek, and EPCOT or Magic Kingdom 20 to 25 minutes from either hotel. Rosen’s homepage calls the airport 10 minutes away; the route we checked takes about 23. If Epic Universe is the priority, our guide to hotels near Epic Universe compares the closest stays.
Resort fee and parking: the real nightly difference
Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book, so compare the extras that apply to every night.
| Charge | Rosen Shingle Creek | Hyatt Regency Orlando |
|---|---|---|
| Resort fee | None | $48 a day, “subject to change” |
| Self-parking | $36 + tax a day | $45 |
| Valet parking | $48 + tax a day | $56 |
| Oversized vehicles | $60 + tax a day | Not published |
| Fitness center | $10 a day or $20 a stay | Studios included in the resort fee |
With self-parking, the Hyatt adds $48 plus $45, or $93 a night before tax, while Rosen Shingle Creek adds $36 plus tax: over four nights, $372 against $144. Without a car, the gap is the Hyatt’s $48 fee. A Rosen guest who drives to the OCCC daily also pays the convention center’s $22 plus tax, or $58 a day in all before tax, still less than the Hyatt’s $93, though the Hyatt saves the commute.
For a sample November 17, 2026 night, the Hyatt’s Booking.com price breakdown listed the US$48 resort fee plus a US$6 nightly “destination tax”, a 1% “property service charge” and 12.63% tax; Hyatt’s own pages mention only the resort fee. A sample November 19 night at Rosen Shingle Creek listed only 6% tax and 6.5% city tax, and its Booking.com listing put parking at US$38.34 a day ($36 plus 6.5%). Our guide to Orlando resort fees explains what these charges usually cover.
Rooms and suites
Rosen Shingle Creek’s 1,501 smoke-free rooms include 946 Double Queens and 416 Kings, which the hotel puts at 436 gross square feet, each with a 50-inch TV, a mini-fridge, a coffeemaker, a safe that fits a 17-inch laptop and a robe. For bigger groups there are 69 Executive Suite Parlors that can be set up with one, two or three bedrooms, plus Petite King and Grande Suites; call 1-866-996-6338 about suite availability. Rosen’s own pages give no guest limit for the Double Queens (Booking.com’s listing allows four), so confirm before booking five people into one.
Hyatt Regency Orlando offers two-queen and king rooms with pool-view, balcony, larger-king and Regency Club versions. Its restyled rooms have Euro Pillowtop beds, sleeper sofas, marble-accented bathrooms, minifridges and 65-inch streaming TVs. Booking.com lists the standard rooms at 39 m² (about 420 square feet). The Family Suite is the pick for a big family: Hyatt says it sleeps up to six, and Booking.com lists it at 60 m² (about 645 square feet) with a queen bed in each of two bedrooms. Both Booking.com listings say cribs are free on request, and both hotels have a club lounge (Rosen’s 14th-floor VIP Lounge, Hyatt’s Regency Club); ask which rooms or rates include access.
Pools: a waterslide or four quieter pools
SeaWorld’s hotel-partner page for the Hyatt describes the Grotto Pool as a 10,000-square-foot, heated, zero-entry pool with cascading waterfalls, a 100-foot-long water slide, a children’s splash pool, a hot tub and private cabanas. The nearly Olympic-size Terrace Pool, above International Drive, is the quieter choice for laps, and daily poolside activities are listed.

Rosen Shingle Creek spreads four outdoor pools beside the golf course: a lap pool, a zero-entry family pool, a cabana pool with private cabanas by reservation and a kiddie wading pool, plus two hot tubs. Its recreation page calls them heated and its homepage “seasonally heated”, so ask before a winter stay. Cat-Tails Pool Bar & Grille and the Creek Ice Creamery sit by the water. There is no waterslide.
Neither hotel lists a lazy river on its official pages. If one is a must, see our list of Orlando hotels with lazy rivers.
Golf, spa and fitness
Golf is Rosen Shingle Creek’s clearest win. Shingle Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course by the Arnold Palmer Design Company that you can walk to from the hotel, with five sets of tees, GPS carts, a 70,000-square-foot driving range and the Shingle Creek Golf Academy.

Hotel guests save 20% off rack-rate green fees, tee times open 90 days ahead, and every tee time includes a cart, range balls and valet parking. The Hyatt has no course; its Descend 21 lounge has Topgolf Swing Suites, pool tables and darts instead. For more courses, see our guide to Orlando golf resorts.
The Spa at Shingle Creek covers 13,000 square feet with nine treatment rooms and a salon. Its fitness center costs $10 a day or $20 a stay, and under-16s aren’t allowed. The Hyatt’s spa offers massages, facials, hair and nails daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its StayFit gym is open 24/7 with strength, cardio and core areas, and Hyatt says its exercise and indoor cycling studios are included in the resort fee.
Dining and breakfast
Rosen Shingle Creek has the deeper bench, with 15 restaurants, bars and cafes. A Land Remembered, the steakhouse in the golf clubhouse, serves Linz Heritage Angus beef nightly from 5:30 p.m., and Cala Bella is the Italian dining room with an open kitchen; the hotel says both hold AAA Four Diamond ratings. Café Osceola has a breakfast buffet with chef stations, and there are Mexican, sushi and burger spots, Starbucks coffee, a 24-hour deli and 24-hour in-room dining.
The Hyatt keeps it simpler: B-Line Diner for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Fiorenzo Italian Steakhouse, ICHARO sushi, Descend 21 (non-cash payments only), the Rocks lobby bar, Coconuts Poolside Bar & Grill and the Market, a 24-hour grab-and-go shop with Starbucks coffee. Pointe Orlando’s restaurants are a short walk away. Neither hotel’s site lists breakfast in standard rates. On our sample dates, Rosen’s Booking.com rates offered it as a paid extra, while some of the Hyatt’s included it.
Theme park transport and perks
Universal and Epic Universe
Both hotels are Universal Partner Hotels with a Universal Vacation Planning Center in the lobby for tickets and the free scheduled buses. Seats are first come, first served, you reserve in person from a day ahead, and the buses don’t run continuously or serve special events, groups or Early Park Admission. At the time of writing, Rosen’s buses left at 7:35, 9:05 and 11:25 a.m. for Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, CityWalk and Volcano Bay, and at 8:15 and 9:45 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. for Epic Universe, with four returns from each between 5 and 9:35 p.m.
The Hyatt publishes no times online; its Universal page says buses leave from its convention center entrance and mentions “all three” Universal parks, so ask at the desk whether they serve Epic Universe. Neither hotel includes Universal Express, which comes free only with three of Universal’s own hotels; our guide to the best hotels near Universal Studios Orlando compares them. Universal offers Early Park Admission to its hotel guests and to others whose ticket states the benefit (see our Early Park Admission guide). Volcano Bay closes for maintenance from October 26, 2026 until on or before April 1, 2027.
SeaWorld and Aquatica
Rosen’s pages and the Hyatt’s homepage list SeaWorld and Aquatica in their scheduled transport (the Hyatt’s Universal page doesn’t). Rosen’s pages say you change at Universal for a single connector, listed at 10:05 a.m. on one page and 10:10 a.m. on another. With SeaWorld about 3 miles from either hotel, driving or a rideshare is simpler.
Walt Disney World
Neither hotel is on Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry list or offers a free Disney shuttle. From Rosen Shingle Creek, Fabulous Buses runs a paid round trip to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for $15 per person aged 3 and up, bookable up to seven days ahead; it doesn’t run if nobody has booked that time. The Hyatt lists no Disney transport, so plan on driving: Disney’s standard parking was $35 a day at the time of writing, the same as Universal’s. If Disney is your main goal, see our best hotels near Disney World.
Families, pets and house rules
Rosen Shingle Creek suits younger children and calmer days, with zero-entry and wading pools, a video game room, sand volleyball, pickleball and tennis, a nature trail and seasonal fishing by reservation.
- Pets at Rosen: one dog per room, $150 plus tax for up to seven nights, then $50 a night; dogs can’t go to the pools, restaurants or spa.
- Pets at the Hyatt: up to two pets, 50 pounds each and 75 combined, $150 per stay for up to six nights; tell the hotel three days ahead (August 2026).
- ID and names: Rosen requires a physical government-issued ID, not a digital one, and may cancel several rooms booked under one name for the same dates.

Frequently asked questions
Which is closer to the Orange County Convention Center, Rosen Shingle Creek or Hyatt Regency Orlando?
Hyatt Regency Orlando. The OCCC says two pedestrian bridges link the Hyatt with the West building, near West Hall C, and with the North-South building. Rosen Shingle Creek has no bridge: it is about 2 to 2.6 miles by road from the halls, or roughly a 40-minute walk.
Does Rosen Shingle Creek have a shuttle to the convention center?
Not according to its website. The hotel’s location and transportation page lists Universal, Disney and Busch Gardens transport, but no OCCC shuttle. Ask your event organizer whether it runs attendee buses from Rosen Shingle Creek. Otherwise, drive and pay the OCCC’s $22 plus tax parking, take a rideshare, or stay at a bridge-connected hotel such as Hyatt Regency Orlando.
Which hotel is cheaper once fees and parking are added?
Usually Rosen Shingle Creek, if room rates are similar. It charges no resort fee and $36 plus tax for self-parking, while the Hyatt charged a $48 daily resort fee and $45 self-parking at last check, or $93 a night before tax. Booking.com’s breakdown for the Hyatt also showed a $6 nightly “destination tax”, so compare full totals.
Does Hyatt Regency Orlando or Rosen Shingle Creek have a lazy river?
No. Neither hotel lists a lazy river on its official pages. Hyatt Regency Orlando has the heated Grotto Pool with waterfalls, a 100-foot water slide and a children’s splash pool, plus a lap pool. Rosen Shingle Creek has four pools, including a zero-entry family pool and a kiddie wading pool, but no slide.
Which is better for Universal and Epic Universe?
It depends on the park. Rosen Shingle Creek is about 1.7 road miles from Epic Universe’s parking and publishes three morning bus departures to each park area. The Hyatt is a little closer to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Both hotels’ buses are free but scheduled, need an in-person reservation and don’t serve Early Park Admission.
Do Rosen Shingle Creek or Hyatt Regency Orlando have a free Disney shuttle?
No. Rosen Shingle Creek guests can book Fabulous Buses, a paid round trip to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for $15 per person aged 3 and up at the time of writing. Hyatt Regency Orlando lists no Disney transport. EPCOT and Magic Kingdom’s lot are about 11 to 13.5 miles from either hotel, and Disney’s standard parking was $35 a day.
Bottom line
Rosen Shingle Creek vs Hyatt Regency Orlando is an easy call once you know where your event is. For OCCC shows, the Hyatt’s bridges can be worth its resort fee, and its waterslide pool keeps kids happy. For conferences at Rosen, golf, Epic Universe days or a bill without a resort fee, Rosen Shingle Creek is the better base.
