Loews Royal Pacific vs Hard Rock Hotel is a choice between two Universal Orlando hotels with the same free Universal Express Unlimited for every registered guest, so the walk, room size, pool and rate decide it. Hard Rock Hotel is about 0.4 mile on foot from the Universal Studios Florida entrance with 375- to 500-square-foot rooms; Loews Royal Pacific Resort has 335-square-foot rooms and is the one TouringPlans calls the least expensive of Universal’s deluxe resorts.
Quick answer: Choose Hard Rock Hotel for the shortest walk to Universal Studios Florida and CityWalk, a 260-foot pool slide and a 500-square-foot Deluxe room with a sleeper sofa for a family of five. Choose Loews Royal Pacific Resort for the same free Express at what is often the lower rate, if 335 square feet is enough. Two days of Express Unlimited for four people cost $1,479.92 to $3,199.92 before tax on the Universal calendar dates checked below; for a family that would buy Express anyway, either hotel pays off when its 2-night premium over a hotel without Express stays under that amount.

Loews Royal Pacific Resort: the same free Express, often for less
Loews Royal Pacific Resort has 1,000 rooms, including 51 suites, at 6300 Hollywood Way, next to Islands of Adventure. Its South Seas theme runs through tropical gardens, the Orchid Court lobby and a lagoon-style pool with a white-sand beach. TouringPlans calls it “the least expensive and most relaxing of Universal’s top hotels,” while Universal puts it in the same $$$$ band as Hard Rock. On Booking.com, its entry-level room cost less than Hard Rock’s for two of three sample stays (December 2026 and March 2027), but not for January 12 to 14, 2027. The Loews Royal Pacific Resort review covers every room type.

Hard Rock Hotel: the shortest walk and a 260-foot slide

Hard Rock Hotel has 650 rooms, including 29 suites, at 5800 Universal Boulevard, beside CityWalk. The Mission-style building wraps around a 12,000-square-foot pool, and Universal says the public areas display memorabilia such as Elvis’ pajamas and Paul McCartney’s guitar. The Sound of Your Stay program delivers one of 20 Fender guitars (deposit and loan agreement required) or a Crosley turntable to the room. Velvet Sessions, a ticketed 21-and-over concert party, runs on the last Thursday of the month from January to October, from $29 per person plus ticketing fees. The Hard Rock Hotel Orlando review goes room by room.
Book it if:
- You want the shortest walk: about 0.4 mile to the Universal Studios Florida entrance, close enough for a midday pool break.
- A family of five wants a real fifth bed: the Deluxe 2 Queen is 500 square feet with a sleeper sofa.
- Kids or teens want a 260-foot slide, underwater music and a sand beach.
Skip it if:
- You want the same Express with a quieter pool, often at a lower rate: compare Loews Royal Pacific Resort (Loews Royal Pacific Resort review) and check Royal Pacific’s rates.
- You will not use Express, for example on an Epic Universe-heavy trip: Loews Sapphire Falls Resort charges the same parking; compare its rates.

Walking times and park transport
Hard Rock Hotel is about 0.4 mile on foot from the Universal Studios Florida entrance, against about 0.6 mile from Royal Pacific, by OpenStreetMap foot routing on October 30, 2026. To the Islands of Adventure entrance, the same routing puts Hard Rock at about 0.6 to 0.7 mile and Royal Pacific at about 0.5 to 0.6 mile, and TouringPlans times both walks at about 9 minutes.
| Hotel | Walk USF / IOA | Water taxi USF / IOA | Bus USF / IOA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard Rock Hotel | 6 / 9 min | 5 / 7 min | 14 / 14 min |
| Loews Royal Pacific | 12 / 9 min | 7 / 9 min | 15 / 15 min |
Water taxis and buses arrive about every 30 minutes at both hotels, starting 1 hour before Early Park Admission, per Universal’s hotel FAQ (minutes above are TouringPlans estimates, October 2026). The boats go to CityWalk only, so Epic Universe days mean the free shuttle bus. Volcano Bay is closed for maintenance, with a planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027, per its park page (Universal’s Express page says March 24, 2027).
Early Park Admission is included at both. From October 5 to November 30, 2026, Universal lists it at five Islands of Adventure attractions and select attractions in four Epic Universe lands, with no upcoming dates at Universal Studios Florida; see the Universal Early Park Admission guide.
Rooms, occupancy and kids’ suites
Hard Rock’s standard rooms are 40 square feet larger: 375 square feet against 335, per Loews’ room pages. Both list standard two-queen rooms for up to five, and Loews and Universal say maximum occupancy may require a rollaway: $35 per day plus tax (12.5%, per Universal), one per room, first come, first served. Each adult beyond two costs $55 (a daily charge on Universal’s Hard Rock page; plus tax on its Royal Pacific page).
| Room | Loews Royal Pacific | Hard Rock Hotel |
|---|---|---|
| Standard, 2 queens | 335 sq ft, up to 5 | 375 sq ft, up to 5 |
| King room | 335 sq ft, up to 3 | Deluxe King, 400 sq ft, up to 4 |
| Deluxe 2 Queen | Not offered | 500 sq ft, sofa bed, up to 5 |
| Club Level | 335 sq ft | 375 sq ft |
| King Suite | 670 sq ft, up to 4 | 650 sq ft, up to 4 |
| Kids’ suite | 670 sq ft, up to 5 | 800 sq ft, up to 5 |
| Most guests in one suite | 1,675 sq ft, up to 11 | 1,400 sq ft, up to 14 |
View categories add the view, not space. Hard Rock’s Deluxe 2 Queen is the only room below suite level at either hotel with a sofa bed for a fifth guest. The largest layouts are Royal Pacific’s 2-Bedroom Hospitality Suite (11 guests) and a Hard Rock King Suite with four queens (14).

Hard Rock’s Future Rock Star Suite is 800 square feet, with a king bedroom and a connected kids’ room with two twin beds plus a sleeper sofa, per Loews; Universal’s page says the fifth guest needs a rollaway, so confirm the bedding. Royal Pacific’s Jurassic World Kids’ Suite is 670 square feet per Loews (Universal gives only a 670 to 2,010 sq ft suite range), while TouringPlans lists 370.

More themed rooms are in Orlando hotels with kids’ suites.
Pools and recreation
Hard Rock’s pool is 12,000 square feet with a 260-foot slide, an underwater sound system, two hot tubs, a sand beach, a volleyball court and fountains for younger children, plus seasonal Concert Nights and DJ Days.

Royal Pacific’s lagoon-style pool has a white-sand beach, two hot tubs and the Royal Bali Sea water play area; neither Loews nor Universal lists a full-size waterslide. Universal’s hotel FAQ lets guests of both hotels, Sapphire Falls and three other on-site hotels use one another’s pools, which removes most of the difference. Pools are heated, but slides close below 60 degrees and pools below 50 degrees.
Both have a free fitness center with steam and sauna (Royal Pacific’s covers more than 5,000 square feet) and a game room open 8 a.m. to midnight. Neither hotel’s Loews amenities page describes a spa.
Dining, Club Level and breakfast
Neither hotel includes breakfast in standard rates. Club Level at both, the Royal Club Lounge and Hard Rock’s seventh-floor Rock Royalty Lounge, serves continental breakfast and evening beer and wine, per Universal, and Club Level rates on Booking.com showed breakfast included for a January 12 to 14, 2027 sample stay.
- Loews Royal Pacific Resort: Islands Dining Room (breakfast buffet, Pan-Asian dinner), Orchid Court Lounge & Sushi Bar, Jake’s American Bar, Tuk Tuk Market, Bula Bar & Grille and the ticketed Wantilan Luau on Saturday evenings, per Universal.
- Hard Rock Hotel: The Palm steakhouse, The Kitchen, Emack & Bolio’s Marketplace (grab-and-go breakfast), the Velvet Bar and the beachclub pool bar and grill.
Both offer 24-hour room service and Priority Seating at select park and CityWalk restaurants, a perk Loews limits to the three Express hotels.
The Express Pass math on real dates
Universal’s online calendar priced the 1-Day Universal Express Unlimited Pass for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure at $184.99 to $399.99 per person, plus tax, for dates from October 30, 2026 to April 30, 2027 (checked October 30, 2026; the calendar rounds to the dollar). Universal’s hotel comparison page values the hotel perk at “an average value of $259.99” per person per day. That average is based on a $129.99 to $389.99 range (UK edition; Loews’ benefits page says $124.99 to $389.99), and the store card says “Starting From $174.99”, yet no date through July 2027 was below $184.99.
The room key works as the pass from the time it is issued until the parks close on check-out day, per Loews and Universal, so a 2-night stay covers at least two full Express days: the middle day and check-out day.
| Sample stay | Per person, 2 days | Family of 4 | Per night (2 nights) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 12-14, 2027 | $184.99 + $184.99 | $1,479.92 | $739.96 |
| Mar 23-25, 2027 | $339.99 + $339.99 | $2,719.92 | $1,359.96 |
| Dec 28-30, 2026 | $399.99 + $399.99 | $3,199.92 | $1,599.96 |
For January: $184.99 x 2 days = $369.98 per person; x 4 people = $1,479.92; / 2 nights = $739.96. If Royal Pacific’s or Hard Rock’s rate is less than $739.96 more per night than a hotel without Express, such as Sapphire Falls, a family of four that would otherwise buy Express Unlimited for both days comes out ahead. For a couple, the threshold is $369.98 per night.
Three adjustments apply. If your key is issued early on arrival day, January 12 adds $194.99 per person. Universal sells Express plus tax, while rooms carry 12.5% hotel tax, so compare both sides before tax, as above. And the value counts only if you would buy Express anyway: the single-use 1-Day Universal Express Pass for the two parks starts at $124.99, and Express Unlimited is not valid at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay, while Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Pteranodon Flyers are not on Universal’s participating-ride lists.
Between Royal Pacific and Hard Rock the Express value is identical, so any extra paid for Hard Rock buys the walk, the rooms and the slide pool. The guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass covers the perk’s rules, and is it worth staying at a Universal hotel weighs on-site against off-site stays.
True nightly cost: fees, parking and perks
Neither hotel adds a resort fee: Loews’ and Universal’s pages list none, and Booking.com’s breakdown for a January 12 to 14, 2027 sample stay showed only taxes and fees of about 12.5% at both. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.
| Hotel | Resort fee | Self-parking | Nightly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loews Royal Pacific | $0 (none listed) | $36 + tax | Rate + $36 |
| Hard Rock Hotel | $0 (none listed) | $36 + tax | Rate + $36 |
| Loews Sapphire Falls | $0 (none listed) | $36 + tax | Rate + $36 |
For a driver: your rate + $0 resort fee + $36 parking = rate + $36 per night, plus tax, at all three; valet is $45 plus tax. Without a car the parking line is $0, and on-site guests skip Universal’s $35 daily garage charge (tax included).
The perks then separate them. At Royal Pacific and Hard Rock, two Express days for four people at Universal’s $259.99 average value equal 4 x 2 x $259.99 = $2,079.92; at Sapphire Falls, $0. Early Park Admission is included at all three, with no dollar value published. Breakfast comes only with Club Level, which Sapphire Falls does not offer. A third adult adds $55 at Royal Pacific and Hard Rock against $25 at Sapphire Falls.
The alternative without Express: Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is the benchmark for the Express math: it sits next to Royal Pacific, charges the same $36 self-parking, has free water taxis and buses, and is one band lower ($$$) on Universal’s scale, without Express. Standard rooms are 321 square feet, the 16,000-square-foot pool has a sand beach, a water slide and a fire pit, and it is about 0.9 mile on foot from the Universal Studios Florida entrance. See Sapphire Falls vs Royal Pacific.
Book it if:
- Your dates are quiet or your trip leans toward Epic Universe, where the hotel Express perk does not apply.
- Three or four adults share a room, and $25 per extra adult beats $55.
- The kids want the pool Universal’s hotel overview lists as its largest.
Skip it if:
- You will spend two busy days at the original parks: Loews Royal Pacific Resort includes Express (Loews Royal Pacific Resort review); check its rates.
- You want the shortest walk to the gates: Hard Rock Hotel (Hard Rock Hotel Orlando review); see its prices.

Choose Royal Pacific if… / Choose Hard Rock if…
Choose Loews Royal Pacific Resort if:
- Express is the point and Royal Pacific prices lower for your dates.
- Two to four people will mostly sleep in the room, so 335 square feet is enough.
- You prefer gardens, a lagoon pool and a Saturday luau over a party pool.
Choose Hard Rock Hotel if:
- You want about a 6-minute walk to Universal Studios Florida and CityWalk.
- Five people need a fifth bed in a 500-square-foot Deluxe 2 Queen.
- A 260-foot slide, memorabilia and a guitar in the room sound like part of the trip.
Frequently asked questions
Is Royal Pacific or Hard Rock better for families?
Hard Rock suits families of five and pool-focused kids: its 500-square-foot Deluxe 2 Queen has a sleeper sofa, and its pool has a 260-foot slide. Royal Pacific suits families of four watching the budget: TouringPlans calls it the least expensive of Universal’s deluxe resorts, and its Jurassic World Kids’ Suite and Royal Bali Sea play area suit younger children. Both include Express for every registered guest.
Which is closer to the parks, Hard Rock or Royal Pacific?
Hard Rock Hotel is closer to Universal Studios Florida: about 0.4 mile on foot, or about 6 minutes per TouringPlans, against about 0.6 mile and 12 minutes from Royal Pacific. To Islands of Adventure both walks take about 9 minutes. Both hotels have free water taxis to CityWalk and buses about every 30 minutes, per Universal.
Do Royal Pacific and Hard Rock both include Express Pass?
Yes. Both include free Universal Express Unlimited for every guest staying in the room, at participating rides in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure during normal park hours. It does not work at Epic Universe, Volcano Bay, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Pteranodon Flyers or separately ticketed events. Each guest shows their own room key card, and park tickets are separate.
Is Hard Rock Hotel worth the extra cost over Royal Pacific?
Only for the location, rooms or pool, because the Express perk is identical. Hard Rock offers about a quarter mile less walking to Universal Studios Florida, 40 more square feet in standard rooms, a 500-square-foot Deluxe option and a 260-foot slide. If those features do not change your days, Royal Pacific delivers the same Express at the hotel TouringPlans calls the least expensive of Universal’s deluxe resorts, so price both for your dates.
Do you still get Express if you book on Booking.com?
Universal’s terms tie Express to staying at the hotel and showing your room key card, and every room type checked on both hotels’ Booking.com listings says it includes free Universal Express Unlimited. Mobile check-in needs a direct booking: Universal names bookings through Universal or Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations, while Loews’ pages name bookings through Loews. Booking.com guests use the front desk.
Bottom line
Loews Royal Pacific vs Hard Rock Hotel is a contest of location and space, not perks: both include Express Unlimited, Early Park Admission, Priority Seating and $36 self-parking with no resort fee listed. Hard Rock wins on the walk, the rooms and the pool; Royal Pacific often wins on rate. On January 12 to 14, 2027, a family of four breaks even on Express at a $739.96 nightly premium.
