Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate is a large golf-and-pool resort just off I-4 southwest of Walt Disney World, best known for a wave pool, an 850-foot lazy river, an adults-only pool and 36 holes of championship golf. It suits families who want a resort day between park days, and golfers who want to walk out to the first tee.

The trade-offs are distance and extras: a nightly resort service charge and paid parking sit on top of the room rate. Here is what the fees include, how the Disney shuttle works and which room fits your group.

Quick answer: Book the Omni ChampionsGate if your trip mixes Disney days with pool or golf days and you have a car or can live with a reserved, scheduled Disney shuttle. Skip it if you plan to rope-drop parks every morning, focus on Universal, or want to avoid resort and parking fees.

Location and distances to the parks

ChampionsGate is a gated golf community right at I-4 Exit 58. The resort’s directions page puts it three miles past the Walt Disney World exits on I-4 west, so you are on the far southwest edge of the Disney area, not in the middle of it.

By road, the four Disney theme parks are about 11 to 13 miles away and Universal Studios Florida about 20 (the resort says 12 and 21). Universal, Epic Universe and International Drive all mean a longer drive up a busy stretch of I-4, so plan extra time at rush hour.

From the resortApprox. road distanceHow to get there
Walt Disney WorldAbout 12 milesCar or free reserved shuttle
Universal Studios FloridaAbout 20 milesCar, rideshare or paid car service
Orlando International (MCO)About 27 milesCar, taxi or town car
ESPN Wide World of SportsAbout 10 milesCar

For the airport, our route check gives about 27 miles, roughly 40 minutes without traffic (resort pages say 26 or 32 miles). The resort also notes dining, grocery and convenience stores within walking distance, handy if you have a kitchen.

If you are still choosing an area, our guide to the best places to stay in Orlando compares this southwest corridor with Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee and International Drive.

Rooms, suites and villas

The resort lists 1,005 guest rooms and suites, and separately 50 two- and three-bedroom villas. Standard rooms come with one king or two queen beds, and balconies are in select units only, so request one if it matters.

  • Deluxe Rooms: 406 square feet, one king or two queens, views over the resort entrance.
  • Premier Rooms: same bed choices, with views of the golf courses or the recreation area.
  • Deluxe Executive Guestroom: the largest standard room at 655 square feet, one king bed, up to 3 guests.
  • Suites: 27 suites in the main building with separate living space and a sleeper sofa, many with a balcony over the pools or golf (not all have one); the 1,200-square-foot Premier Florida Suite is the largest.
  • Sunset Lodge Studio Suites: 50 suites at Sunset Lodge; a studio suite has two queen beds and a kitchenette for up to four adults and can connect to extra rooms to create two-, three- or four-bedroom setups.
  • Villas: two-bedroom villas (1,543 square feet, up to 6 guests) and three-bedroom villas (1,832 square feet, up to 8 guests per the villa FAQ), with full kitchens, living and dining rooms, a den and a terrace or balcony.

The villas sit away from the main building with their own self-parking, and an on-request internal shuttle links them with the pools and golf. One detail to confirm: the resort’s homepage says three-bedroom villas sleep up to ten, while the villa FAQ says eight. For more options of this kind, see our list of 2- and 3-bedroom suites near Disney World.

Sunset Lodge has its own pool, a 24-hour front desk, free lobby coffee and wellness extras such as yoga mats and noise machines.

Pools, the wave pool and recreation

The pool complex is the big draw. The resort calls its wave pool Orlando’s only resort wave pool. It covers 7,338 square feet and holds more than 131,000 gallons. Around it you get:

  • Lazy river: 850 feet long, with tubes, tunnels and gentle rapids.
  • Family pool: zero-entry, with a 125-foot corkscrew waterslide and a family whirlpool.
  • Kids pool: 2,156 square feet with a zero-entry area and three slides wide enough for two riders.
  • Adult pool: 18 and over only, with its own Jacuzzi and eight adults-only cabanas.
  • Cabanas: 23 bookable cabanas across the adult, wave and kids pool areas, with a mini fridge, TV and ceiling fans.

The family and kids pool slides have a 36-inch minimum height, and cabanas must be reserved, so ask for current pricing. Pool access is part of the resort service charge. If a lazy river is high on your list, compare this one with others in our guide to Orlando hotels with lazy rivers.

Beyond the water:

  • Golf: 36 holes on two Greg Norman-designed courses, the links-style International and the American-style National, plus the lighted Champs Par 3 pitch-and-putt course.
  • Eagles Edge: a Toptracer driving range with 30 hitting bays, food and drinks.
  • Crane’s Adventure Golf: an 18-hole mini golf course near the pools, included in the resort charge.
  • Courts and games: a tennis court that converts to two pickleball courts, a lighted basketball court and a 24-hour arcade.

Dining and breakfast

The resort lists nine restaurants and bars, which matters this far from the tourist strips.

  • Trevi’s and Trevi’s Terrazza: breakfast plus Italian lunch and dinner, with family-style service and an outdoor terrace.
  • Zen: Pan-Asian dishes, sushi and sake, with a sushi-rolling class on Friday and Saturday afternoons at last check.
  • David’s Club: a sports bar and grill with steaks and resort views.
  • Broadway Deli: sandwiches, gelato and grab-and-go meals from breakfast to late night.
  • Croc’s: pool bar and grill, currently also hosting a Tiki Social pop-up bar.
  • Piper’s Grille, Lobby Bar and Eagles Edge: golf-clubhouse breakfast and lunch, drinks, and casual American food at the range.

Breakfast is not included unless your rate says so. Room service runs from 6 to 10 a.m. for breakfast and 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner, according to the dining page. On early park days, the deli’s to-go breakfast or a kitchen in a villa or studio suite saves time and money. Book sit-down restaurants through OpenTable.

Parking and fees

Budget for two charges beyond the room rate. At the time of writing, the resort service charge is $48 plus tax per room, per night. The resort lists what it includes:

  • Premier in-room Wi-Fi and two bottled waters per day
  • Scheduled transportation to Walt Disney World theme parks (reservation required)
  • 24-hour access to the three fitness centers
  • Crane’s Adventure Golf, resort pools and the basketball, tennis and pickleball courts
  • Free local and toll-free calls, in-room coffee and tea, and turndown on request

Parking is separate. At the time of writing, the resort lists $38 for overnight self-parking and $50 for valet, plus a $33 daily self-parking rate; its pages do not say whether tax is added, so confirm at booking. Self-parking is also available at the villas and Sunset Lodge. There are six electric-vehicle charging spots. If fees are a dealbreaker, look at our list of Orlando hotels with no resort fees.

Other policies worth knowing: check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m., and you must be 18 to book and check in. Pet rules are in the FAQ below.

Getting to Disney, Universal and the airport

The resort runs complimentary scheduled Disney transportation, included in the resort charge. At the time of writing, its directions page lists six departures and four to five returns daily to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom via the Transportation and Ticket Center; another resort page adds Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, so confirm stops and times with the concierge.

Reserve seats about 24 hours ahead (48 hours if you need a wheelchair lift). With only a handful of return trips, you cannot leave a park whenever you like, so many guests are better off driving. Disney lists standard theme park parking at $35 per car per day at the time of writing, on top of the resort’s own parking charge.

Transportation to Universal, SeaWorld and other attractions is extra. The resort says Mears town cars start at about $65 one way, or you can use rideshare or a taxi. From the airport, the resort quotes about $82 by taxi from MCO and about $100 back, or $120 to $145 by Mears town car from MCO and $104 back, for one to four passengers. Confirm current rates before you rely on them.

Spa, fitness, kids club and Wi-Fi

  • Mokara Spa: a 10,000-square-foot full-service spa with massages, facials (including HydraFacial) and salon services; Florida residents get 10% off.
  • Fitness: a 24-hour gym with Cybex equipment and two Peloton bikes.
  • Camp Omni Kids Escape: Friday and Saturday evenings, 5 to 10 p.m., for ages 5 to 10; check the price.
  • Wi-Fi: included in the resort charge.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the resort fee at Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate?

At the time of writing, the resort service charge is $48 plus tax per room, per night. It covers premier in-room Wi-Fi, two bottled waters a day, scheduled Disney transportation, the fitness centers, Crane’s Adventure Golf, the pools and the sports courts. Parking is charged separately. Confirm the current amount with the resort before booking, since fees can change.

Does Omni ChampionsGate have a shuttle to Disney World?

Yes. Complimentary scheduled transportation to Walt Disney World is included in the resort charge, with six departures and three to five return trips daily at last check. Seats must be reserved, ideally 24 hours ahead. EPCOT and Magic Kingdom riders go via the Transportation and Ticket Center. Ask the concierge for the current schedule and which parks are served on your dates.

How far is Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate from Disney World?

The resort puts itself about 12 miles from Walt Disney World; by road, the four theme parks are about 11 to 13 miles away and Universal Studios Florida about 20. It sits off I-4 at Exit 58, southwest of the Disney area. Drive times depend on which park you visit and on I-4 traffic, so leave extra time in the morning, especially if you want to arrive near park opening.

Does Omni ChampionsGate have a water park?

It has a resort water play area rather than a separate ticketed water park. You get a 7,338-square-foot wave pool, an 850-foot lazy river, a zero-entry family pool with a 125-foot corkscrew slide and a kids pool with three slides. Slides require a 36-inch minimum height. Adults also have an 18-and-over pool with its own cabanas.

Is parking free at Omni ChampionsGate?

No. At the time of writing, the resort lists $33 for daily self-parking, $38 for overnight self-parking and $50 for valet parking, without saying whether tax is extra. Villa and Sunset Lodge guests can self-park next to their buildings. Add parking to the nightly resort charge when you compare total costs with hotels closer to the parks.

Is Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate pet friendly?

Yes, with limits. The policies page allows pets under 50 pounds (one rooms page says 25) in deluxe rooms on the second floor of the main resort building, not in villas. There is a non-refundable $225 fee per stay for the first pet and $100 for a second. Service animals are welcome without the fee. Mention your pet when you book.

Bottom line

Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate is a strong choice when the resort itself is part of the vacation: a wave pool and lazy river for the kids, an adults-only pool and spa for you, golf for whoever wants it and villas for big groups. Factor in the $48 nightly charge, paid parking and a longer commute to the parks, and it rewards slower trips more than park-every-day itineraries. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.
