Is it worth staying at a Universal hotel? For most first-time visitors, and for anyone who would buy Universal Express anyway, yes. All 11 hotels on Universal Orlando’s property include Early Park Admission and free transportation to the parks, and three of them include Universal Express Unlimited for every guest in the room. On a tight budget or a long stay, a walkable or shuttle-served off-site hotel can cost less.
We checked every perk, fee and rule below on Universal’s and Loews’ official pages and on the hotels’ Booking.com listings in October 2026; confirm them before you book. Weighing Disney as well? See whether a Disney resort is worth it.
Quick answer: Book a Universal hotel if you have one to three park days, want to ride before the gates open, or would pay for Express. Loews Royal Pacific Resort includes free Express, and TouringPlans calls it the least expensive of Universal’s deluxe resorts. Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort gives a family of up to six a suite with a kitchenette. Universal Stella Nova Resort has a walking path to Epic Universe. If you can skip early entry and Express, stay off-site: DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando is a walk from CityWalk, and Hyatt House across from Universal Orlando Resort includes breakfast.

What every Universal hotel includes
Universal Orlando has 11 hotels on its property. Universal’s hotel benefits page and hotel FAQ list these perks for all of them:
- Early Park Admission: select attractions open up to one hour early at the park or parks Universal chooses. You show your hotel key card and a valid ticket for that park. From October 5 to November 30, 2026, Universal lists five Islands of Adventure attractions, including Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster, and select attractions in four Epic Universe lands. Universal Studios Florida shows no upcoming dates. Later dates were not posted at the time of writing.
- Free transportation: shuttle buses to all four theme parks and CityWalk, starting one hour before Early Park Admission. Buses arrive every 15 or 30 minutes, depending on the hotel.
- Room charging and delivery: your key card charges purchases to your room, and items bought at select Universal-run park stores can be delivered to your hotel. Delivery ends at 5 p.m. and is not available on check-out day.
- Pool hopping, with limits: guests of six hotels, including the three Express hotels and Cabana Bay, can use each other’s pools. Stella Nova and Terra Luna share pools only with each other, and the Helios Grand and Endless Summer pools are for their own guests.

The early hour matters most at rides with long lines, such as those in Hogsmeade. Our Universal Early Park Admission guide explains how to use it.
Perks only some Universal hotels have
- Universal Express Unlimited: only Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel include it. Every guest in the room can use the Express line as often as they like at participating rides in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, but not at Epic Universe, Volcano Bay, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure or Pteranodon Flyers. Each guest shows their own room key card. Loews says the key works as the pass from the moment it is issued until the parks close on check-out day. Universal Helios Grand Hotel does not include Express.
- Priority Seating: the same three hotels can reserve it at select park and CityWalk restaurants through the concierge desk.
- Water taxis: boats run to CityWalk from the three Express hotels and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, every 30 minutes according to Universal’s FAQ. They do not go to Volcano Bay or Epic Universe.
- Walking paths and a private entrance: paths link several hotels to CityWalk and the two original parks. Universal Helios Grand Hotel has its own entrance into Epic Universe, and Stella Nova has a walking path to the park. Universal lists only buses for Terra Luna and the Endless Summer Resort.
The paths to Volcano Bay are of little use this winter: Universal says the water park is closed for maintenance, with a planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027. To compare the three Express hotels, see Hard Rock vs Royal Pacific vs Portofino Bay.
What a Universal hotel stay does not include
- Free parking: overnight self-parking costs $26 to $36 + tax a night, depending on the hotel. Disney’s own resort hotels, by contrast, include overnight self-parking.
- Breakfast: it is not a standard perk. Club Level rooms at Hard Rock, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific and Helios Grand include a continental breakfast, per Universal’s hotel pages. On Booking.com, only Royal Pacific’s Club Level rates included breakfast for our January sample dates.
- Airport transfers: Universal’s SuperStar Shuttle from Orlando International Airport costs extra and must be booked at least 24 hours before your flight.
- Check-in for under-21s: at least one guest in each room must be 21 or older, per Universal’s FAQ.
Universal’s hotel pages list no resort fee, only a 12.5% hotel tax. Booking.com’s prices for a January 2027 sample stay at Royal Pacific, Cabana Bay and Stella Nova added about 12.5% in taxes and fees.
Booking a Universal hotel on Booking.com: what you keep
Universal’s terms tie Early Park Admission and Express Unlimited to staying at the hotel and showing your room key card. Unlike mobile check-in, they do not require a direct booking. The hotels’ Booking.com listings repeat those terms, and their room names say “Includes FREE Universal Express Unlimited” at Royal Pacific and “Includes Early Park Admission” at Cabana Bay.
| Perk | Booked directly with Universal | Booked on Booking.com |
|---|---|---|
| Early Park Admission | Yes | Yes, with your key card |
| Express Unlimited (3 hotels) | Yes | Yes, with your key card |
| Free buses, boats and paths | Yes | Yes |
| Mobile check-in and digital Express pass in the app | Yes | No; use the front desk and your key card |
| Universal’s own offers | Yes | No; Booking.com sets its own rates |
Universal’s hotel FAQ says mobile check-in requires a reservation made directly through Universal Orlando or Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations. At the time of writing, Universal’s own offers included 15% to 30% off stays of five nights or more (travel September 8 to December 25, 2026 and January 3 to March 15, 2027) and up to $300 off vacation packages bought through Universal. Compare both prices for your dates.
What off-site hotels can match
An off-site hotel cannot give you free Express Unlimited. Off-site guests get Early Park Admission only with a Universal vacation package, whose ticket states the benefit, or with a Premier or Preferred Annual Pass on eligible dates. A partner hotel booked on its own does not include it. Off-site can match the rest:
- A short walk: DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal Orlando is about 0.9 mile on foot from CityWalk (about 19 minutes), and Hyatt House across from Universal is about 1 mile, by our routes. Cabana Bay, on Universal’s property, is about 0.9 to 1.4 miles away. See our hotels within walking distance of Universal.
- A free shuttle: many nearby hotels run one, usually with a few fixed departures rather than a bus every 15 to 30 minutes. Our guide to hotels near Universal with a free shuttle compares their sample times and booking rules.
- Your own car: Universal charged $35 a day, tax included, for regular self-parking at its garages and at Epic Universe at the time of writing. Garage self-parking is free after 6 p.m., except on Halloween Horror Nights event nights and December 31, and never at Epic Universe. See Orlando theme park parking prices.
- Express, bought separately: availability is limited each day, per Universal. At Epic Universe, where Express Unlimited is not sold, Universal Express gives one Express entry per ride, on most rides except Dragon Racer’s Rally.
Universal’s hotel comparison page values the free hotel Express at an average of $259.99 per person per day. Universal bases it on 2-Park Express Unlimited prices of $129.99 to $389.99, while Loews’ benefits page gives $124.99 to $389.99. Our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass shows how to weigh it.
Universal hotel vs off-site: perk by perk
| Perk | 3 Express hotels | 8 other Universal hotels | Off-site hotel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Park Admission | Yes | Yes | Package or some annual passes |
| Express Unlimited | Free (2 parks) | Not included | Not included |
| Park transport | Bus, boat, walk | Bus; walk or boat at some | Walk, shuttle or car |
| Universal garage parking | Not needed | Not needed | $35 a day if you drive |
| Hotel parking | $36 + tax | $26 to $36 + tax | $25 to $34 at our picks |
| Resort fee | None listed | None listed | Varies by hotel |
| Breakfast | Club Level rooms only | Helios Grand Club Level only | Included at some |
How to work out the real cost
Room rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book. Compare totals for the same dates and beds, then add the extras:
- Fit the room to your group. Standard rooms at Stella Nova sleep up to four, two-queen rooms at Royal Pacific up to five with a paid rollaway, and Cabana Bay’s Family Suites up to six. Each adult beyond two costs extra: $55 + tax at Royal Pacific and $20 at Cabana Bay and Stella Nova, per Universal’s hotel pages.
- Add parking: the hotel’s nightly charge, plus $35 per park day if you drive in from off-site.
- Value Express: people in the room × days at the two original parks × the Express price for your dates. Epic Universe days count as zero.
A worked example with published fees
Take a family of four with a rental car, staying 4 nights with 3 park days:
- Cabana Bay: 4 × $26 = $104 + tax in hotel parking, and no garage fee.
- DoubleTree, walking to the parks: 4 × $34 = $136 + tax in hotel parking, and no garage fee.
- An off-site hotel with free parking, driving in: 3 × $35 = $105 at Universal’s garages.
Parking barely separates them, so the room rate and the perks decide. If two of the three park days are at the original parks, Express Unlimited for four people is worth 4 × 2 × $259.99 = $2,079.92 at Universal’s average value, or 4 × 2 × $129.99 = $1,039.92 at the bottom of its range, before tax. Royal Pacific includes it, with self-parking of 4 × $36 = $144 + tax.
Is it worth staying at a Universal hotel for your trip?
| Your trip | Best base | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First visit, 1 or 2 days at the original parks | An Express hotel for 1 or 2 nights | Express on check-in and check-out days, plus early entry |
| You would buy Express anyway | Royal Pacific, Hard Rock or Portofino Bay | Express for everyone in the room |
| Budget family | Cabana Bay, or Hyatt House off-site | Family Suites for six, or free breakfast and kitchen suites |
| Epic Universe first | Stella Nova or Helios Grand | Walking path or own entrance, early entry at Epic when offered |
| Disney and Universal on one trip | A split stay or one off-site base | Universal hotels add no Disney perks |
| Long stay, no early mornings | A walkable or shuttle hotel off-site | No garage fee; breakfast or a kitchen at some |

DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando: walk in, skip the garage

This DoubleTree on Major Boulevard is about 0.9 mile on foot from CityWalk, so you can walk to the parks and skip Universal’s garage fee. Its Booking.com listing mentions a junior Olympic-size pool and a Universal Orlando Partner ticket desk; there is no Early Park Admission or Express. Booking.com listed self-parking at US$34 a day plus tax. Its price for our December 2026 sample stay added about 12.5% in taxes and fees and showed no resort fee. Breakfast is included in some rates and extra in others. Our DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal review covers the rooms.

Hyatt House across from Universal Orlando Resort: breakfast and a kitchen

Parking was US$25 a day on Booking.com, with no resort fee. See our Hyatt House across from Universal review.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth staying at a Universal hotel for just one or two nights?
Often, yes, at an Express hotel. Loews says the room key works as Express Unlimited from the moment it is issued until the parks close on your check-out day. A one-night stay can therefore cover two park days at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. You can then move to a cheaper off-site hotel for the rest of the trip.
Do you still get Universal hotel perks if you book on Booking.com?
Yes, the park perks stay. Universal’s terms tie Early Park Admission and Express Unlimited to staying at the hotel and showing your key card, and the hotels’ Booking.com listings repeat those terms. You lose mobile check-in and the digital Express pass in the Universal app, which need a direct booking with Universal. Universal’s own discounts also require booking with Universal.
Do all Universal hotels include Express Pass?
No. Only Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel include Universal Express Unlimited, for every guest in the room. It works at participating rides in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, not at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. The other eight hotels, including Universal Helios Grand Hotel, include Early Park Admission and free transportation, but not Express.
Is it cheaper to stay off-site at Universal Orlando?
It depends on your dates and on what you would buy. Compare the full cost: add hotel parking, $35 a day for Universal’s garages if you will drive in, and any resort fee. If you would buy Express anyway, an Express hotel can come out ahead. A free breakfast or a kitchen off-site helps on longer stays.
Do Universal hotels charge a resort fee?
Universal’s hotel pages list no resort fee, only a 12.5% hotel tax. Booking.com’s prices for a January 2027 sample stay at Royal Pacific, Cabana Bay and Stella Nova added about 12.5% in taxes and fees. Parking is the main extra: self-parking costs $26 to $36 + tax a night, depending on the hotel. Extra adults beyond two also cost more.
Can off-site hotel guests get Universal Early Park Admission?
Only in some cases. Universal’s vacation package FAQ says package guests get Early Park Admission, and they show a theme park ticket that states the benefit. Premier Annual Passholders also get it at Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, and Preferred Passholders on select dates. A partner hotel booked on its own, on Booking.com or with the hotel, does not include it.
Bottom line
A Universal hotel is worth it when you will use what it adds: early mornings, free buses and boats, and, at three hotels, Express Unlimited that can be worth more than the rate difference. Royal Pacific suits Express buyers, Cabana Bay suits budget families and Stella Nova suits Epic-focused trips. If you can skip early entry and Express, a walkable off-site hotel such as DoubleTree or Hyatt House may cost less overall.
