Disney monorail resorts are the six Disney Resort hotels on the Resort Monorail loop around Seven Seas Lagoon: Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. They are the only Disney hotels on the monorail, and two of them, the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian, have walking routes to Magic Kingdom.

The six work as three pairs. Each Deluxe hotel shares its pools, restaurants and monorail stop with a Deluxe Villa section next door. We checked Disney’s pages on October 28, 2026.

Quick answer: The closest Disney resort to Magic Kingdom is Disney’s Contemporary Resort, with Bay Lake Tower next door. You can walk about half a mile to the main gate or ride the Resort Monorail. The Grand Floridian is one monorail stop away and has a walking path of less than one mile. The Polynesian has the monorail and boats, but Disney lists no walking path from it to the park. You book all six with Disney; they are not sold on Booking.com.

The six Disney monorail resorts at a glance

The Contemporary, the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian are Deluxe resorts with hotel rooms and suites. Their villa sections are Deluxe Villa resorts, also called Disney Vacation Club resorts, with studios and villas. Occupancy comes from Disney’s room pages and counts adults.

Disney’s overview pages sometimes give lower figures. The Contemporary overview says club-level rooms sleep up to 8 adults, but its room list has a 2-bedroom club suite for up to 10. The Polynesian overview says club-level rooms sleep up to 5, while two of its club suites sleep up to 8. Confirm the exact room type before you book.

No other Disney hotel is on the monorail. Disney lists boats and buses for Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the upcoming Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge.

How the monorail works for resort guests

The Walt Disney World Monorail System has three lines. The Resort Monorail stops at Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary, the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). The Express Monorail links the TTC and Magic Kingdom, and the EPCOT Monorail links the TTC and EPCOT.

  • To Magic Kingdom: ride the Resort Monorail to the park with no change of train. Drivers and most off-site shuttles stop at the TTC instead.
  • To EPCOT: ride to the TTC and change to the EPCOT Monorail.
  • To Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs: take a Disney bus from your resort.
  • By boat: Disney lists water taxis to Magic Kingdom from the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. It does not list the Contemporary among the boat stops for the park.

Hours: Disney’s monorail page says the Resort and Express monorails start 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens and stop one hour after it closes. Its general resort transportation page says service starts 45 minutes before opening, so the two pages differ. Early Theme Park Entry also starts 30 minutes before official opening. Our Magic Kingdom tips cover arrival times, and our guide to Disney World transportation covers buses, boats and the Skyliner.

Which Disney resort is closest to Magic Kingdom?

  1. Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower. Disney says you can walk to the main gate from the A-frame tower or the Garden Wing. Our walking-route check came to about half a mile, roughly 10 to 15 minutes. The Resort Monorail also stops inside the tower.
  2. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and its Villas. The park is one monorail stop away. Disney describes the new walking path as a “less-than-one-mile stroll”, and water taxis cross the lagoon.
  3. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and its Villas & Bungalows. Ride the Resort Monorail or a water taxi. Disney lists no walking path to the park, only a lagoon jogging trail of about 1 mile to the Grand Floridian.

Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, off the monorail, use water taxis. For the full ranking, including hotels you can book on Booking.com, see our guide to hotels near Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower

The Contemporary is the A-frame tower that the monorail runs through. Bay Lake Tower is the curved villa building next door, connected by the Sky Way Bridge.

Rooms: Main Tower rooms have 1 king bed and 1 day bed or 2 queen beds and 1 day bed. They sleep up to 5 adults and have a patio or balcony. Disney says Theme Park View rooms face Magic Kingdom and the parking area. Garden Wing rooms sleep up to 5, or up to 3 in the king layouts, and their listings do not mention a balcony. Club-level rooms include complimentary continental breakfast, snacks and evening drinks in a club lounge.

Bay Lake Tower: a Deluxe Studio has 1 queen bed and 1 double-size sleeper sofa, sleeps up to 4 and has a kitchenette with a small fridge and microwave. Villas add a full kitchen and a washer and dryer: the 1-bedroom sleeps up to 5, the 2-bedroom up to 9 and the 3-bedroom Grand Villa up to 12. Resort View rooms may face the parking area.

Pools and dining: the heated Feature Pool has a 17-foot-high waterslide, and Bay Pool is the quiet pool. Bay Lake Tower guests also get the Bay Cove Pool, with a 20-foot-tall waterslide. California Grill serves dinner, Chef Mickey’s is a character buffet at breakfast and dinner, and Steakhouse 71 and Contempo Café serve all three meals.

Construction: Disney says work continues in phases through late 2027, including Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower atrium. Exterior maintenance may affect views and walking routes.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

The Polynesian has a South Pacific theme and, Disney says, has been a favorite since 1971. Its monorail stop also serves the villa section, including Island Tower, the newest building.

Rooms: standard rooms have 2 queen beds and 1 day bed (some Resort View rooms have 1 king bed and 1 day bed or 2 queen beds). They sleep up to 5 adults and have a patio or balcony. Theme Park View rooms look toward Magic Kingdom and Seven Seas Lagoon.

  • Island Tower Duo Studio: 1 queen-size pull-down bed, up to 2 adults, kitchenette.
  • Deluxe Studios: up to 4 in Island Tower and up to 5 in the original villa section, each with a kitchenette.
  • Island Tower villas: 1-bedroom up to 5, 2-bedroom up to 9 and 2-bedroom penthouse up to 8, with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.
  • Bungalows: over the water, up to 8 adults, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and a private deck with a plunge pool.

Pools and dining: the Lava Pool has a volcano, a 142-foot-long waterslide and a beach-style entry. The Oasis Pool is quieter, and Island Tower has the zero-entry Cove Pool and the Moana’s Voyage splash area. ‘Ohana serves breakfast and dinner, Kona Café serves all three meals, and Capt. Cook’s serves food until late at night. For spa treatments, Disney points you to the Grand Floridian.

Construction: through late 2026, Disney is reconfiguring the front entrance roadway, and some park views may be affected. Allow extra travel time. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace was closed “through late October” at last check on October 28, 2026.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and The Villas

The Grand Floridian is the Victorian-style resort one monorail stop from Magic Kingdom. With its Villas, it is the only monorail resort area with all three ways to the park: the walking path, the monorail and water taxis.

Rooms: standard rooms are in the outer buildings. Layouts include 2 queen beds and 1 day bed, 2 queen beds, or 1 king bed and 1 double-size sleeper sofa. They sleep up to 5 adults and have a patio or balcony. The largest club suites sleep up to 8.

The Villas: Deluxe Studios sleep up to 5 and have a kitchenette. Resort Studios are hotel-style rooms with 2 queen beds and 1 day bed for up to 5; Disney lists a beverage cooler, not a kitchenette. Villas sleep up to 5 (1 bedroom), 9 (2 bedrooms) or 12 (3-bedroom Grand Villa).

Pools, spa and dining: Beach Pool sits by the lagoon shore and has a 181-foot-long waterslide. Courtyard Pool is the heated quiet pool. The Grand Floridian Spa and a health club are on site. Restaurants include Victoria & Albert’s, Narcoossee’s, Cítricos, 1900 Park Fare with its character buffets and the casual Gasparilla Island Grill.

Construction and closures: renovations continue through early 2027, including the covered entrance. On October 28, 2026, Disney still listed Grand Floridian Cafe as closed for a refresh from mid-July through October 2026, with brunch moved to Cítricos, so check whether it has reopened. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at the resort was marked temporarily unavailable that day.

Disney Resort perks at the monorail resorts

All six get every perk Disney gives its Deluxe and Deluxe Villa guests. The table compares them with Four Seasons Resort Orlando, covered below.

PerkMonorail resortsFour Seasons Orlando
Early Theme Park EntryYes, 30 minutes dailyYes, 30 minutes daily
Extended Evening HoursYes, select nightsNo
Lightning Lane purchases7 days before your stay3 days before each visit
Theme park parkingStandard parking included$35 a day if you drive
Hotel parkingFree self-parking; valet $42 + taxValet only, US$60 a day

Disney says Early Entry and Extended Evening Hours continue through 2027. Disney Resort guests can also book dining 60 days ahead for the whole stay, up to 10 nights. Four Seasons figures were checked on October 28, 2026.

Evening hours this season: Disney’s park calendar, checked on October 28, 2026 for dates through December 31, 2026, showed Extended Evening Hours at EPCOT on Mondays from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. and at Animal Kingdom on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Hollywood Studios had one session, on October 28. The calendar showed no Magic Kingdom nights. Our Extended Evening Hours guide explains how they work.

A parking example: if you stay off-site and drive to Magic Kingdom on 4 days, standard parking costs 4 x $35 = $140, tax included, at Disney’s published rate. Monorail resort guests pay nothing for it and do not need the car for Magic Kingdom. Room rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book. For the wider trade-offs, read whether it is worth staying at a Disney resort.

Which monorail resort fits your group?

  • Choose the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower if you want the shortest walk to Magic Kingdom and a modern style.
  • Choose the Polynesian if you want a tropical theme, a volcano pool and boat rides, and you can accept construction until late 2026.
  • Choose the Grand Floridian if you want a full-service spa, Victoria & Albert’s and three ways to reach the park.
  • Choose a villa if you are 6 to 12 people. Our guide to Disney World 2-bedroom villas compares them across Disney’s resorts.
  • Think twice if EPCOT is your main park, because every trip needs a change of train at the TTC.

All six sell Theme Park View rooms that name Magic Kingdom in Disney’s descriptions. Our list of hotels with views of Disney fireworks adds off-site options.

How to book a Disney monorail resort

You book all six with Disney online or by phone, or in a Walt Disney Travel Company package. They are not sold on Booking.com. Disney Vacation Club members can use Vacation Points at the villa resorts.

  • Read the view line: “Resort View” can mean a parking-area view, and some Garden Wing rooms have obstructed views.
  • Count beds: in hotel rooms, “sleeps 5” usually means 2 queen beds plus a day bed. In 5-person studios, it means 1 queen bed plus a queen-size and a single pull-down bed. A family of 6 needs a suite, a villa or two rooms.
  • Kitchen or kitchenette: Deluxe and Duo Studios have a kitchenette with a small fridge and microwave. A full kitchen comes only with the villas, penthouses and bungalows.

Non-Disney alternative near Magic Kingdom: Four Seasons Resort Orlando

No hotel sold on Booking.com is on the monorail. Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is one of the closest. It sits inside Walt Disney World in the private Golden Oak community, about 4 miles by road from the TTC, or roughly 10 minutes by our route check.

A free coach runs once an hour to each of the four Disney theme parks. For Magic Kingdom, it stops at the TTC and you finish with a short monorail ride. Guests get Early Theme Park Entry every day. The 5-acre Explorer Island water park has a lazy river, two 242-foot waterslides (42-inch minimum height) and a splash zone, and there is a complimentary kids’ camp. Four Seasons says Park View rooms have private terraces with views of the nightly Walt Disney World fireworks. Our Four Seasons Resort Orlando review has more.

  • Why stay: luxury, a private water park and Early Entry at a hotel you can book on Booking.com.
  • Getting to the parks: free hourly coaches; Magic Kingdom drop-off is at the TTC.
  • Good to know: valet parking only (US$60 a day on Booking.com at last check). The resort’s January 2026 property map lists a resort fee of $55 per room per night plus tax. Booking.com showed US$60 a night for a December 8 to 10, 2026 sample stay, so ask which applies. No Extended Evening Hours.

Best for: families and couples who want resort days between park days and do not need the monorail.

Yes. Disney says a new walking path connects the Grand Floridian and its Villas with Magic Kingdom, a “less-than-one-mile stroll.” You can also ride the Resort Monorail one stop or take a water taxi. Disney says renovations, including the covered entrance, run through early 2027, and guests may need alternative routes at times.

Does the monorail go to EPCOT from the monorail resorts?

Not directly. Ride the Resort Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center and change to the EPCOT Monorail, which Disney says runs until 2 hours after EPCOT closes. Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs are not on the monorail, so use Disney’s buses from your resort.

Can you book Disney monorail resorts on Booking.com?
