Gaylord Palms vs Orlando World Center Marriott is a choice between two of the biggest Marriott-run resorts near Walt Disney World, about 2.3 miles apart by road on the southeast side of Disney property. Both charge a resort fee that covers a Disney shuttle and water park entry for four, both list self-parking at about $40 a day, both are busy convention hotels, and neither has Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry.

The difference is the resort day between park days: Gaylord Palms (1,718 rooms) wraps around 4.5 acres of glass-roofed atriums and a water park with slides for small children, while World Center (2,010 rooms) spreads over 200 acres with a lazy river, golf and more rooms for five. We checked Marriott’s pages, both shuttle portals and Disney’s pages in October 2026; for other options, see our guide to Marriott hotels near Disney World.

Quick answer: Book Gaylord Palms if your kids are under 48 inches, you want an indoor, weatherproof resort, you are coming for Christmas and ICE!, or Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are your main parks. Book Orlando World Center Marriott if you need one room for five, want a balcony with every room type, a true lazy river, golf and room service, or a shorter run to Disney Springs and the airport. The resort fees are only $2 apart.

Gaylord Palms Resort: Florida under glass

Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center is a Gaylord Hotels resort run by Marriott at 6000 West Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee (Booking.com files it under Celebration). Its glass-roofed atriums, inspired by three Florida regions, hold waterways, waterfalls and animal habitats. Gaylord says a $134 million renovation finished in January 2025 delivered a new lobby, remodeled restaurants and more than 1,400 redesigned rooms.

Free alligator and fish feedings run five days a week, a free augmented-reality app hides 12 endangered animals around the resort, and through October 31, 2026 the Phantom of the Atrium light show runs nightly at 9 p.m. Our Gaylord Palms Resort review covers every room type and restaurant.

Orlando World Center Marriott: pools, golf and room to spread out

Orlando World Center Marriott stands at 8701 World Center Drive (State Road 536), just east of Walt Disney World. The hotel says it is 1.5 miles from Walt Disney World; by road, the nearest theme park lots, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, are about 5 miles away. Now 40 years old, it has 2,010 rooms and suites on 200 acres ringed by its own golf course, and every room type on Marriott’s listing has a balcony.

The pool complex is the draw: Falls Pool Oasis and River Falls Waterpark add up to seven slides and a 575-foot lazy river, with a 10-minute laser show over the lagoon every night. Our Orlando World Center Marriott review has the full suite chart and restaurant hours.

Location: which is closer to Disney World?

Neither resort is on Disney property. Gaylord is closer to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom along Osceola Parkway; World Center is closer to Disney Springs, SeaWorld, Universal and the airport. Distances are October 2026 OSRM routes on public roads from each hotel to each park’s guest parking (for Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center lot); drives back can differ slightly.

Water parks: Cypress Springs vs Falls Pool and River Falls

Both resorts count seven waterslides, and both resort fees cover entry for up to four guests a day. The difference is who is tall enough to ride.

Gaylord Palms: Cypress Springs Water Park

The three-acre park gives overnight guests four wristbands per room, and children under 15 must be with an adult at all times.

  • Slides: the Florida Free Fall (a 35-foot trap-door drop into a giant bowl), two Tamiami Twister racing slides and four kids’ slides in the Tree House playground with its 300-gallon tipping bucket. Minimums are 48 inches for the tower slides, 40 for the upper slides and 36 for the lower slides.
  • Crystal River Rapids: an “action river” with currents of nearly four feet per second.
  • Pools: the zero-entry Cypress Springs Pool with a giant video wall, and the narrow South Beach Pool for laps; both are heated.
  • Extras: The Wake Zone FlowRider (added fee; 42 inches to bodyboard, 48 to stand), paid cabanas and the SandBar pool restaurant.

World Center Marriott: Falls Pool Oasis and River Falls Waterpark

  • Falls Pool Oasis: a heated, zero-entry 400,000-gallon lagoon pool with a body-slide tower (two 200-foot twisting slides and a 90-foot speed slide), open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at last check.
  • River Falls Waterpark: the 575-foot lazy river plus three inner-tube slides for one or two riders, the longest 525 feet, open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at last check.
  • Height rules: 48 inches, barefoot, for all six of those slides; the seventh is a small slide in the 11-inch-deep Kids’ Splash Zone.
  • Extras: 15 rentable cabanas, the nightly laser show, and mermaid and glow parties on select nights.

The verdict: with children between 36 and 48 inches, Gaylord wins, because at World Center they are limited to the splash-zone slide, the pools and the lazy river; for a slow float, World Center wins. Compare more resorts in our guide to Orlando hotels with water parks and waterslides.

Rooms and occupancy: the family-of-five question

This is the clearest split. At Gaylord Palms, standard rooms are about 410 square feet: king rooms list two guests (one rollaway is allowed, $30 a night at last check), two-queen rooms list four with no rollaways, and the Executive (about 625 sq ft) and Deluxe (about 831 sq ft) suites list four. Marriott’s listings show a balcony only for atrium-view rooms; the Water Park View rooms in the Gulf Coast Tower come with two queens.

World Center’s standard rooms are about 425 square feet with a 50-square-foot balcony and list four guests with one king or two queens. Families of five can book the 477-square-foot Promenade Large Guest Room (two queens and a sofa bed), the two-queen Fairway (680 sq ft) or Ambassador suites, or the 1,200-square-foot Family Bunk Bed Suite, with a king, bunk beds, a sofa bed and a kitchen setup with a full-size fridge. The Governor two-bedroom suite (2,254 sq ft) lists eight.

A family of five at Gaylord needs two rooms; both resorts sell guaranteed connecting rooms. Sizes and occupancy are from Marriott’s room listings. See also our guide to rooms that sleep 5 or 6 at Disney World and Universal.

Resort fees: what $45 and $47 buy

Both fees are mandatory and charged plus tax at the time of writing; Gaylord quotes its fee per day, World Center per room per night.

Water parkCypress Springs, up to 4 guestsRiver Falls, up to 4 guests

OtherDaily yoga class for 2None listed

Gaylord also lists a daily spa day pass, but only for Marriott Bonvoy Elite members, and both resorts’ FAQs tie free member internet to booking direct, so don’t count on loyalty perks with a Booking.com reservation. Golf, the FlowRider, cabanas and ICE! cost extra. Our explainer on Orlando resort fees puts both in context.

Parking and the real daily cost

All figures are per day, before tax, at the time of writing.

Daily chargeGaylord PalmsWorld Center Marriott
Resort fee$45$47
Self-parking$40 ($38 in holiday FAQ)$40
Valet parking$55$61
Fee + self-parking$85 ($83 at $38)$87
Fee + valet$100$108

Marriott’s Gaylord overview (July 2026 copy) lists $40 self-parking, while the resort’s Christmas FAQ lists $38, so ask which rate applies to your dates; overnight guests get in-and-out privileges. World Center’s garage clearance is 7 feet 4 inches. Both resorts list electric-vehicle charging and are cashless.

Disney shuttle: five days’ notice vs three

Both shuttles are covered by the resort fee, run to a timetable and must be reserved on each resort’s portal.

  • Gaylord Palms: book up to five days ahead; Marriott says schedules are updated weekly. At the time of writing, the portal said pickups are in the resort’s Transportation Lobby, the 11:15 a.m. departure serves all four parks and Disney Springs, the 5 p.m. goes to Disney Springs only, and reservations are required 30 minutes before departure. It did not list the other times, so check the first departure against park opening.
  • World Center Marriott: four seats per room per day, booked up to three days ahead with your confirmation number. The October 2026 timetable’s first departures were 7:15 a.m. for Animal Kingdom and 8:15 for the other parks (Magic Kingdom also 7:15 on select dates), with Magic Kingdom returns from Lane C12 at its transportation hub. Disney Springs runs were at 11:15 a.m. and hourly from 5 to 10 p.m.

Neither resort gets Early Theme Park Entry, and like other off-site guests you buy Lightning Lane passes 3 days ahead rather than 7; compare the non-Disney hotels with Early Theme Park Entry. Neither lists a shuttle to Universal, Epic Universe or SeaWorld.

Getting there from Orlando airport (MCO)

Marriott’s pages say neither resort runs an airport shuttle, but Mears Connect, the shared shuttle from MCO, lists both. At the time of writing, its standard fares from the airport were $17.60 per adult and $14.30 per child aged 3 to 9 one way, including the airport fee, plus a 6% fuel surcharge “until further notice”; under-3s ride free. By car, World Center is about 17.5 miles from MCO and Gaylord about 19.

Dining and breakfast

Breakfast is not included at either resort; both sell it on site.

  • Gaylord Palms: 11 outlets, led by Old Hickory Steakhouse (dinner only, smart casual) and MOOR, a seafood restaurant overlooking the Key West Atrium lagoon. Villa de Flora’s attended buffet serves breakfast, Wreckers Sports Bar has a 37-foot screen, and cafés and snack bars fill the gaps. There is no room service, but A la Carte Room Delivery brings packaged meals to your door from 6 a.m. to midnight.
  • World Center Marriott: eight restaurants and bars, including Mikado Japanese Steak House (hibachi), Siro Urban Italian Kitchen, Latitude & Longitude for breakfast and lunch, the High Velocity sports bar and the Lobby Bar with sushi. Room service is available.

Gaylord has more choice under one roof, and on select peak Christmas dates it limits table-service reservations to overnight guests.

Spa, golf and fitness

  • Golf: World Center wins outright with Hawk’s Landing Golf Club on site: 18 holes, par 70, about 6,255 yards, water on 15 holes, a driving range and lessons. Gaylord’s official partner course is Celebration Golf Club, a few miles away, with preferred tee times and transportation.
  • Spa: Gaylord’s Relâche Spa & Salon (guests 18 and older) adds a eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna and rainforest showers to its treatments. World Center’s The Spa opens 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. by appointment, with a steam room and separate men’s and women’s lounges.
  • Fitness: both gyms are open 24 hours, and Gaylord’s resort fee adds daily Sunrise Yoga at 8 and 10 a.m.

Kids, rainy days and crowds

Gaylord Palms is built for bad weather: the wildlife feedings, the arcade, the animal hunt and most restaurants are indoors. World Center’s activities are mostly outdoors: crafts, dive-in movies, mini golf, lawn games and Baby Otter Swim School lessons. Neither lists a supervised kids club. For more ideas, see our family-friendly hotels in Orlando.

Both are major convention hotels: World Center cites 500,000 square feet of meeting space, and Gaylord more than 500,000 in its own press release (400,000 on Marriott’s overview). Expect busy lobbies and restaurants during big events, and longer walks across World Center’s 200 acres.

Christmas: ICE! vs Twelve Nights of Wonder

  • Gaylord Palms: Christmas at Gaylord Palms runs November 13, 2026 to January 3, 2027. ICE! featuring The Polar Express has 11 scenes carved from more than 2 million pounds of ice in a 19,000-square-foot hall kept at 9°F, with five ice slides and parkas provided. Tickets are sold online in advance, with timed entry; overnight guests get the free Chill Pass for front-of-line access but still need tickets.
  • World Center Marriott: its Twelve Nights of Wonder winter village runs December 20 to 31, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m., with a holiday carousel, a train trail, roaming performers and fireworks on select nights (December 26, 28, 30 and 31, per Marriott’s holiday offer).

For the parks’ holiday events, see our guide to Christmas in Orlando.

Choose Gaylord Palms if…

  • You want an indoor, climate-controlled resort for rainy afternoons.
  • You are coming for Christmas, ICE! and the overnight guests’ Chill Pass.
  • Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, about 3 and 4 miles away, are your priority parks.
  • You want 11 places to eat, from a steakhouse to seafood, without leaving the resort.

Choose Orlando World Center Marriott if…

  • You are five in one room: several room types list five, and the Governor suite lists eight.
  • You want a balcony with every room type, and Laser Show Pool View rooms facing the nightly show.
  • A 575-foot lazy river and golf at Hawk’s Landing are on your wish list.
  • You want room service and a hibachi dinner on site.
  • Disney Springs, SeaWorld, Universal or a shorter airport run matter more than Hollywood Studios.
