New Year’s Eve in Orlando is built around midnight fireworks. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando have traditionally kept their parks open late on December 31, SeaWorld has already posted hours that run to 1 a.m., and Kissimmee’s entertainment districts throw their own street parties. The catch is that the biggest parks announce their New Year’s Eve plans late in the year.

December 31, 2026, falls on a Thursday, and the Citrus Bowl is set for Saturday, January 2, 2027, so the holiday turns into a long weekend. This guide sorts what each park and venue had confirmed when we checked official sources in early October 2026, what happened last year, and where to stay so you are not stuck in a parking garage at 1 a.m.

Quick answer: For classic midnight fireworks, pick EPCOT or Magic Kingdom (Disney had not released its 2026 schedule, but both had special shows last year) or SeaWorld, which already lists December 31 hours of 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. and promises fireworks (included with admission last year). Universal promises a New Year’s Eve celebration in its parks and at CityWalk. For a cheaper night, the Rocking New Year street party at Sunset Walk in Kissimmee sells advance tickets from $27. Book a hotel you can walk or shuttle back to, and book it early.

Walt Disney World on New Year’s Eve

Disney had not published hours or entertainment for December 31, 2026, when we checked on October 5; its online park calendar only reached December 4. The holiday framework is confirmed: Disney’s holiday season runs from November 13 to January 6, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays and its Candlelight Processional end on December 30, 2026, and the last Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is December 22. Disney Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios skips New Year’s Eve; its last December date is the 23rd, and it returns on January 3 and 5, 2027.

What Disney did last New Year’s Eve

This comes from WDW News Today, an unofficial fan news site, not from Disney. Its guide to December 31, 2025, listed Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s Eve fireworks, Fantasy in the Sky, at 7:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. on both December 30 and 31. EPCOT showed Luminous: The Symphony of Us early, at 6:30 p.m., then Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration at 11:54 p.m. Hollywood Studios held hourly countdowns from 7 to 11 p.m. and countdown fireworks at 11:57 p.m., while Animal Kingdom closed in the early evening. Treat this as last year’s unofficial schedule, not a promise, and check the My Disney Experience app once December 31 appears on Disney’s calendar.

Which Disney park to choose

  • Magic Kingdom: The classic castle fireworks, and the park the planner site Undercover Tourist calls most likely to reach capacity. Undercover Tourist suggests the December 30 showing, if repeated, as a less stressful option.
  • EPCOT: Undercover Tourist calls it the most exciting place to be on New Year’s Eve, and it is a large park with room to spread out. The Festival of the Holidays has ended by then.
  • Hollywood Studios: A smaller park whose hourly countdowns last year, per WDW News Today, suit families who will not make it to midnight.
  • Animal Kingdom: A daytime pick, since it closed in the early evening last year.

Disney parks can stop admitting new guests when they fill. On December 31, 2019, Magic Kingdom briefly stopped admitting new guests in mid-afternoon, and Disney pointed visitors to the other three parks, Fox News reported. That closure was brief, but if you plan to park hop, get to your evening park early.

Getting back to your hotel from Disney

Disney’s resort buses to the theme parks run until one hour after park closing, and alcohol is not allowed on board. Standard theme park parking was $35 a day at last check, and rideshare lines after midnight can be long. A hotel within walking distance, or with its own boat or shuttle, makes the night much easier. If you would rather watch from your room, see our guide to hotels with views of Disney fireworks.

Universal Orlando on New Year’s Eve

Universal’s 2026 holiday page runs the season from November 14, 2026, to January 3, 2027, included with a theme park ticket or annual pass (blockout dates may apply), and promises a New Year’s Eve celebration at its theme parks and Universal CityWalk. Details were not out yet, and Universal’s online hours calendar only ran through November 30 when we checked. Last year, Universal described DJs, live entertainment and a midnight countdown at Epic Universe, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk. Volcano Bay will be closed: its maintenance closure runs from October 26, 2026, to on or before April 1, 2027.

CityWalk’s New Year’s Eve party

CityWalk, Universal’s dining and nightlife district outside the park gates, throws its own party. Universal’s blog laid out the 2025 timeline: 4 p.m. on December 31 to 2 a.m. on January 1, with live entertainment on the Waterfront Stage until 12:30 a.m., DJs along the Promenade until 2 a.m., a live band from 8:45 p.m., and light pyrotechnics above Pat O’Brien’s plus a confetti storm at midnight.

Some venues sold their own packages, such as a ticketed Sip & Bites dinner with a midnight champagne toast on the VIVO Italian Kitchen patio, so book those early if a similar lineup returns. You must be 21 or older with valid photo ID to buy alcohol. Universal’s garages charged $35 including tax for standard parking at last check.

SeaWorld Orlando on New Year’s Eve

SeaWorld is the only one of Orlando’s three big theme park resorts with confirmed New Year’s Eve hours: its official calendar lists December 31, 2026, as 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., versus 10 p.m. closings from December 26 to 30. Its Christmas Celebration runs on select nights from November 6, 2026, to January 4, 2027 (the event’s FAQ still says November 7 to January 5, so confirm). The calendar also lists a New Year’s Eve event on December 31, and the Christmas Celebration page promises fireworks through the season.

SeaWorld’s New Year’s Eve page still described last year’s party when we checked: fireworks included with admission and visible from several areas, DJ dance party zones, champagne pop-up bars, and a countdown with Count von Count in Sesame Street Land, where the party zone ended at 11 p.m. Paid extras included VIP fireworks viewing from a private waterfront patio with a champagne toast, and reserved seating for Winter Wonderland on Ice, whose finale was synchronized with the midnight fireworks. That earlier wrap-up makes SeaWorld a good fit for families with young children.

Local New Year’s Eve parties and fireworks outside the parks

Rocking New Year at the Promenade at Sunset Walk

Sunset Walk, the dining and entertainment promenade at 3251 Margaritaville Boulevard in Kissimmee, lists its Rocking New Year street party for December 31, 2026, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., with DJs, laser shows, a confetti storm and a midnight mirror ball drop and fireworks. It is an all-ages, rain-or-shine event. At the time of writing, limited advance tickets cost $27, and VIP tickets for ages 21 and over cost $50, adding a VIP viewing area and a midnight champagne toast. Visit Orlando’s guides describe the party as free, but the 2026 event page sells advance tickets, so check it before you go. Tickets are sold only through Eventbrite, and chairs, blankets and pets are not allowed.

Old Town Kissimmee

Old Town, the classic-car and entertainment district on US 192, lists New Year’s Eve on December 31 among its annual signature events, and Visit Orlando describes it as a free celebration with fireworks. Old Town had not posted 2026 details when we checked; last year Visit Orlando also listed a drone show at neighboring Fun Spot Kissimmee, presented with Old Town. Parking is free in the lots behind the buildings, while the large overflow lot across from Fun Spot costs $11 plus tax and fees, and special events may cost more. For a room nearby, see our guide to hotels near Old Town Kissimmee.

Downtown Orlando and Lake Eola

We found no city-run New Year’s Eve fireworks at Lake Eola Park listed at the time of writing, and the park’s posted hours are 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. daily. Downtown bars, restaurants and hotels set their own plans.

For a ticketed night downtown, Kia Center lists comedian Jim Gaffigan at 7 p.m. on December 31, 2026, and the Orlando Solar Bears at home on January 1 and 2, 2027. Our guide to hotels near Kia Center covers places you can walk back to.

Crowds, capacity and hotel demand over New Year’s

Undercover Tourist calls New Year’s Eve historically one of the busiest times at Walt Disney World. Our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Orlando shows how the holiday weeks compare, and our Christmas in Orlando guide covers the events that run up to New Year’s.

Two college football games add to demand. The Pop-Tarts Bowl is set for Tuesday, December 29, at 5:30 p.m. and the Citrus Bowl for Saturday, January 2, 2027, at noon, both at Camping World Stadium. Florida Citrus Sports says both games will be played at reduced capacity during the stadium’s $400 million renovation, due for completion in 2027, and public tickets for both games go on sale after teams are selected on December 6.

Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book. Choose a refundable rate so you can switch once park schedules are out, and check minimum-stay rules, resort fees and parking charges before you pay.

Walt Disney World Dolphin, for EPCOT and Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney World Dolphin pyramid facade with a water taxi docked on the lake

The Dolphin and its neighbors, the Swan and Swan Reserve, sit inside Walt Disney World near EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, and unlike Disney’s own resorts, the Dolphin can be booked on Booking.com. A water taxi runs about every 20 to 25 minutes to both parks (not in bad weather), and walkways lead to both entrances, so if EPCOT repeats its midnight show, you can stroll back. Buses serve Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs, and guests park free at Disney theme parks with their room key and My Disney Experience reservation confirmation. Our Swan vs Dolphin vs Swan Reserve comparison helps you choose.

Best for: EPCOT’s midnight celebration without a bus ride home.

Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel, for CityWalk and the Universal parks

Hard Rock Hotel is one of Universal’s premier hotels, which Universal says are linked by walking paths to CityWalk, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, with complimentary shuttle buses and water taxis to the CityWalk hub. Your room key adds free Universal Express Unlimited at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure with valid park admission, though separately ticketed events and a few rides are excluded. Check-in is at 4 p.m.

Best for: CityWalk’s party plus Universal park days around the holiday.

Margaritaville Resort Orlando, for the Sunset Walk party

Margaritaville Resort Orlando, a Walt Disney World Good Neighbor hotel in Kissimmee, sits right next to the Promenade at Sunset Walk, so you can walk to the Rocking New Year party and back. Its Island H2O Water Park perk will not help over New Year’s, because the water park’s 2026 season ends on October 31. The resort’s FAQ listed self-parking at $20 plus tax at last check.

Best for: A street party with fireworks and no theme park ticket.

Disney’s own resorts are not sold on Booking.com; to stay at one, book directly with Disney.

Getting around on New Year’s Eve

  • Plan the ride home first: Disney’s buses stop one hour after park closing; Sunset Walk’s party runs until 2 a.m., as last year’s CityWalk celebration did.
  • Do not drive after drinking: Use a rideshare, taxi or hotel transport, and expect surge pricing and long pickup lines right after midnight.
  • Public transit: Last year LYNX ran a holiday schedule on New Year’s Day, with services that run on Sundays keeping their Sunday schedule; check its 2026 holiday notice. Our guide to getting around Orlando without a car covers buses, shuttles and trains.

Frequently asked questions

Does Disney World have fireworks on New Year’s Eve?

Yes, traditionally. Last year Magic Kingdom ran Fantasy in the Sky at 7:30 and 11:50 p.m. on December 30 and 31, and EPCOT and Hollywood Studios held countdown shows just before midnight, according to the unofficial fan site WDW News Today. Disney had not announced its 2026 plans or hours in early October, so check its park calendar before you commit.

Is Universal’s New Year’s Eve celebration included with park admission?

Universal says its holiday season, November 14, 2026, to January 3, 2027, is included with a theme park ticket or annual pass, with possible blockout dates, and promises a New Year’s Eve celebration in the parks and at CityWalk. CityWalk needs no park ticket, but some venues sell separate packages, as VIVO Italian Kitchen did last year.

Does SeaWorld Orlando have fireworks on New Year’s Eve?

Yes. SeaWorld promises fireworks on December 31, and its official calendar shows hours of 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. that night. Last year the fireworks were included with admission, with paid extras such as VIP waterfront viewing with a champagne toast, plus a countdown with Count von Count in Sesame Street Land, where the party zone ended at 11 p.m.

Are there free New Year’s Eve fireworks in Orlando?

Free options are limited. Old Town in Kissimmee lists New Year’s Eve as an annual signature event, and Visit Orlando describes it as a free celebration with fireworks; watch Old Town’s website for 2026 details. Visit Orlando also calls Sunset Walk’s display free, but Sunset Walk’s 2026 event page sells advance tickets from $27. We found no city-run fireworks at Lake Eola listed at the time of writing.

How crowded is Disney World on New Year’s Eve?

Very. Undercover Tourist calls New Year’s Eve historically one of the busiest times at Walt Disney World, with Magic Kingdom the park most likely to reach capacity; it briefly stopped admitting new guests in mid-afternoon on December 31, 2019, Fox News reported. Arrive early, avoid late park hopping, and consider the December 30 fireworks if Disney repeats them.

Where should I stay in Orlando for New Year’s Eve?

Stay where you can walk, or take a hotel boat or shuttle, back after midnight. The Swan and Dolphin connect to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios by walkways and water taxis, Universal’s premier hotels have walking paths to CityWalk, and Margaritaville Resort Orlando is next to the Sunset Walk party. Book early and choose a refundable rate.

Bottom line

New Year’s Eve in Orlando works best when you pick one celebration and a hotel that fits it. SeaWorld has the only confirmed theme park hours so far; Disney and Universal should announce their 2026 details closer to the date, likely following last year’s pattern of late hours and midnight shows. Lock in a refundable room now, then buy park tickets and party passes as schedules appear.
