Getting from Orlando airport to Universal takes about 25 to 30 minutes by car in light traffic: Universal Orlando Resort and its 11 hotels sit roughly 13 to 15 miles west of Orlando International Airport (MCO), via the SR 528 toll road. You can ride Universal’s paid SuperStar Shuttle, take an Uber, Lyft or taxi, book a private car, rent a car or ride a $2 LYNX bus.

There is no free airport shuttle to Universal, and Mears Connect, the shuttle many Disney guests use, doesn’t serve Universal’s hotels. Fares and pickup spots below come from the operators’ official pages, checked in October 2026; confirm them before you fly.

Quick answer: Solo travelers and couples staying at a Universal hotel can book the SuperStar Shuttle: $23 per adult one way or $39 round trip, tax included, at the time of writing, about 30 minutes each way. Families of three or more should also price an Uber, Lyft or taxi, which charge per vehicle and go straight to the hotel. Rent a car only for days away from Universal, because hotel parking adds $26 to $36 a night plus tax.

Universal’s SuperStar Shuttle: the official airport transfer

The SuperStar Shuttle is a shared shuttle between MCO and Universal’s own hotels, sold one way or round trip. Universal’s travel-advisor page, Helios Grand’s own hotel page and Brightline list all 11 on-site hotels, but Universal’s consumer vacation page leaves Helios Grand off, so confirm if you’re staying there.

  • Fares: adults $23 one way or $39 round trip; children 3 to 9 $21 or $36; 2 and under free. Prices include tax and are listed for travel through December 31, 2026.
  • Booking: reserve at least 24 hours before your flight. Universal’s hotel FAQ lists 1-800-823-4733 to buy it and 1-866-604-7557 (8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) to change flight details; it can also be added to a Universal vacation package.
  • Where to go: at Terminals A and B, collect bags on Level 2, then find the Hotel Transportation desk on Level 1. At Terminal C, collect bags on Level 6 and check in at the Mears Connect desk on Level 1. The airport lists SuperStar loading at spaces A30-A33 and C282-C283.
  • Hours: representatives greet flights landing from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; land outside those hours and you get instructions in advance.
  • The ride: vehicles hold up to 25 passengers and may stop at other Universal hotels.
  • Kids: with a child 5 or younger, tell Universal you need a car seat when you give your flight details.

It doesn’t serve Orlando Sanford airport or off-site hotels; Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations sells separate transfers to its partner hotels as package add-ons.

Uber, Lyft and taxis from MCO to Universal

Rideshare is the quickest door-to-door option, and the price covers the whole car. Uber, Lyft and other apps pick up on the Level 2 arrivals curb at Terminals A and B around the clock (also the Level 3 departures curb from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.) and on the Level 6 arrivals curb at Terminal C. There is no published fare: the app quotes a price before you book, and it rises when demand is high.

Taxis wait on Level 1 at Terminals A (spaces A22-A25) and B (B30-B34) and on Level 6 at Terminal C. They’re metered, flat rates aren’t allowed, and one cab carries up to nine people for the same fare. The airport’s undated approximate-rate table lists $38 to $45 to the International Drive area, the closest zone to Universal, but the airport notes metered fares may differ, so treat it as a rough guide and add a tip.

Heading straight to the parks? Universal’s free rideshare drop-off is at the North Parking Garage, 6000 Universal Boulevard (Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay and CityWalk), or 1201 Epic Boulevard for Epic Universe.

Traveling with young kids? Florida law requires children 5 and younger to ride in a crash-tested child restraint. Hired vehicles such as taxis are exempt, but the statute still makes the parent responsible, so plan on a seat in any car. Uber Car Seat in Orlando offers one seat per car, by reservation only, for a $10 surcharge.

Private car services

A pre-booked car meets you at the airport and drives straight to your hotel. Mears, the airport’s ground transportation concessionaire, runs Mears Luxe, with sedans for up to four passengers, SUVs for five, vans for eight and executive vans for up to 13, and the airport lists many other permitted companies. Prices are per vehicle; ask whether a quote includes the toll, fees, tip and car seats.

Renting a car: SR 528 tolls and Universal parking

Ten rental companies operate on-airport at MCO. Leaving the airport, follow the North Exit signs to SR 528 (the Beachline Expressway) west.

The toll is small. CFX’s toll calculator gave these figures for a car from the airport entrance on October 8, 2026:

Route on SR 528 westToll pointTransponder or Visitor Toll PassBy plate
To Universal Blvd/Orangewood Blvd (Exit 2), International Dr or I-4Beachline West Main Plaza$2.24$2.54
To McCoy Rd (Exit 8), then Sand Lake RdBoggy Creek/McCoy Rd ramp$1.38$2.76

The Exit 8 route is the shortest way to the main Universal garages but runs about 8 miles on surface streets, mostly Sand Lake Road; Exit 2 suits Epic Universe and its hotels. Don’t plan on paying cash: CFX has been converting its tolls to cashless. Renting at MCO, reserve the free Visitor Toll Pass in its app ($10 deposit, applied to your tolls), collect it at the airport (Level 1 at Terminals A and B, Level 4 at Terminal C) and decline the rental company’s toll program so you aren’t billed twice. Our guide to Orlando toll roads and rental car toll plans has the details.

Then add parking. Universal’s hotels charge per night for overnight self-parking:

Universal hotelsSelf-parking per nightValet per night
Endless Summer Dockside and Surfside, Cabana Bay$26 + taxNot listed
Aventura, Stella Nova, Terra Luna$30 + taxNot listed
Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, Sapphire Falls, Helios Grand$36 + tax$45 + tax

Staying off-site? Universal’s regular theme park parking is $35 a day including tax at the time of writing. Universal offers a free upgrade to Prime parking with an Avis or Budget rental from MCO (voucher required; you still pay for regular parking).

Do you need a car at all? Universal says every on-site hotel has free transportation to all four theme parks and CityWalk. For a one-off beach or Disney day, every Universal hotel lists a lobby car rental desk (mostly Avis, generally open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Our Universal Orlando tips for first-timers explain how park days work once you’re there.

LYNX buses: cheap, but not to the main parks

LYNX city buses leave from the A side of the main terminal, Level 1, at spaces A38-A41. A ride costs $2, an all-day pass $4.50, and a transfer to another route is free within 90 minutes if you ask the driver when you board.

  • To Epic Universe: on the current Link 311 timetable, about 14 weekday departures (13 on weekends) stop at the Epic Universe transfer center, from 7:35 a.m. to 8:55 p.m., with a timetabled ride of about 32 to 44 minutes.
  • To Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk: no route goes direct. Ride Link 311 (about 30 to 55 minutes) or Link 42 (about 65 to 90 minutes) to Destination Parkway, then Link 38, roughly every 30 minutes, to Universal Boulevard and Hollywood Way (about 15 to 25 minutes).

Either way, the bus stops short of your hotel, so it only makes sense if you travel light. For more on buses and car-free bases, see getting around Orlando without a car.

What doesn’t go to Universal: Mears Connect, Brightline and SunRail

  • Mears Connect: the 24-hour shared shuttle serves Disney-owned resorts, the Disney Springs Resort Area hotels and some other Disney-area hotels, not Universal. Splitting your stay? Our guide to getting from Orlando airport to Disney World covers the Disney leg.
  • Brightline: the high-speed train’s Orlando station is at the airport, and its trains run only south, toward West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. There’s no Universal station, but at last check Brightline said its riders save 10% on SuperStar round trips.
  • SunRail: the commuter train has no airport or Universal station. The airport points riders to a bus link from Sand Lake Road station, and SunRail runs Monday to Friday only.

Arriving at a Universal hotel: luggage, check-in and early arrivals

Most flights don’t land at check-in time. According to Universal’s hotel pages and FAQ:

  • Times: check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m.
  • Landing early: you can check in on arrival day, leave your bags with the luggage service and take the free transportation to the parks or CityWalk.
  • Mobile check-in: if you booked directly with Universal or its vacations arm and linked the reservation to your Universal account, the app opens check-in (where offered) at 4 p.m. Eastern three days before arrival; you collect physical keys at a dedicated line.
  • Age rule: someone in each room must be 21 or older.
  • Going home: you can store luggage after check-out and enjoy the resort until your airport ride.

Hotels that make the airport transfer easy

All 11 Universal hotels appear on the SuperStar route (confirm for Helios Grand, as noted above). Three stand out for different trips, and an airport hotel helps if you land late. Our guide to hotels near Universal Studios Orlando compares all 11 on-site hotels.

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort

Cabana Bay is one of Universal’s lower-priced on-site hotels, with a walking path to Volcano Bay and buses that Universal says come about every 15 minutes. Its Family Suites sleep up to six, with two queen beds, a sofa bed and a compact kitchen (mini fridge, microwave and sink), handy for a late snack after a flight. Self-parking is $26 a night plus tax.

Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando

Land early and arrival day counts here. Guests get free Universal Express Unlimited at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure (park ticket required; not Volcano Bay or Epic Universe), and the hotel says your room key works as the Express pass from the moment it’s issued until the parks close on check-out day. Water taxis and walking paths connect it to CityWalk. Self-parking is $36 and valet $45 a night, plus tax. Compare it in our guide to Universal hotels with Express Pass.

Universal Stella Nova Resort

Stella Nova sits next to Epic Universe, which you can reach on foot or by the free shuttle, with buses to the other parks and CityWalk. In our routing it’s also among the quickest Universal hotels to reach from MCO, about 24 minutes via SR 528 Exit 2 in light traffic. Guests get Early Park Admission, and overnight self-parking is $30 plus tax.

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

Landing near midnight with tired kids? Sleep at the airport and head to Universal in the morning. The 445-room Hyatt Regency is inside the main Terminal A/B building, above the security checkpoint for Gates 70-129, so Terminal A and B arrivals can walk from baggage claim to their room. More options are in our guide to Orlando airport hotels.

Tips for a smooth arrival day

  • Know your terminal. At Terminal C, rideshare and taxis load on Level 6, but the SuperStar check-in is on Level 1. Our Orlando airport guide shows which airlines use each terminal.
  • Allow extra time through 2027. MCO is replacing the trams to Gates 70-129 through fall 2027 and suggests adding 30 minutes to rental car and ground transportation pickup plans.
  • Book the shuttle early. SuperStar needs 24 hours’ notice and your flight details, so update them if your flight changes.

Arriving at MCO? see Orlando airport to International Drive: taxi, rideshare, LYNX and toll costs.

Staying in Kissimmee? see Orlando airport to Kissimmee: taxi, rideshare, LYNX FastLink 407, shuttles and SR 417 tolls.

Frequently asked questions

Does Universal have a free shuttle from Orlando airport?

No. Universal’s SuperStar Shuttle is paid: $23 per adult one way or $39 round trip, and $21 or $36 for children 3 to 9, tax included, at the time of writing. It serves Universal’s on-site hotels only and must be booked at least 24 hours before your flight. Universal’s hotel buses to the parks and CityWalk are free once you’re there.

How far is Universal Studios from Orlando airport?

About 13 to 15 miles by road, depending on your hotel and route. In light traffic the drive takes about 25 to 30 minutes from Terminals A and B, slightly longer from Terminal C, and Universal quotes about 30 minutes for its SuperStar Shuttle. Epic Universe and its hotels are about 13 miles away via SR 528 Exit 2.

How much is an Uber from Orlando airport to Universal?

There is no fixed fare: Uber and Lyft quote a price in the app before you book, and it rises at busy times. The price covers the whole car, so it often beats per-person shuttle fares for families. For comparison, the airport’s undated approximate taxi table lists $38 to $45 to the International Drive area, but taxis are metered and the final fare can differ.

Does Mears Connect go to Universal?

No. Mears Connect serves Disney-owned resorts, the Disney Springs Resort Area hotels and some other Disney-area hotels. For Universal hotels, the equivalent is Universal’s SuperStar Shuttle. Mears also runs a private car service, Mears Luxe, with sedans, SUVs and vans that can take you to Universal at a per-vehicle price.

Is there a bus from Orlando airport to Universal?

Partly. LYNX Link 311 stops at the Epic Universe transfer center on about 14 weekday trips from the airport, for $2. No LYNX route runs directly to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure or CityWalk; you’d ride Link 311 or 42 to Destination Parkway and transfer, free within 90 minutes, to Link 38. It’s slow with luggage.

Do I need a rental car if I stay at a Universal hotel?

Usually not. Universal says all its hotels have free transportation to the four theme parks and CityWalk, and hotel parking costs $26 to $36 a night plus tax at the time of writing. A car makes sense for beach, Kennedy Space Center or Disney days; every Universal hotel lists a car rental desk in its lobby for short rentals.

Bottom line

For most Universal trips, skip the rental car. Couples and solo travelers can book the SuperStar Shuttle at least a day ahead, families should compare a rideshare quote, and drivers pay a toll of about $1.38 to $2.24 with a pass. Then let Universal’s free buses and water taxis handle the rest.
