Getting from Orlando airport to Disney World means a drive of roughly 19 to 25 miles, about 30 to 45 minutes by car when traffic is light. Your choices are the Mears Connect shared shuttle, Uber or Lyft, a taxi, a private car service, a rental car, Disney’s Minnie Van (for Deluxe resort guests) and the $2 LYNX Link 311 bus.

None of them is free. Disney’s Magical Express ended in January 2022, and Disney now states that airport transfers are not included in a Disney Resort hotel stay. The best option depends mostly on how many of you are traveling, whether you need car seats and whether you will want a car later in the trip.

Prices below are as published at the time of writing; check current terms before you fly.

Quick answer: Solo travelers and couples should book Mears Connect Standard ($17.60 per adult one way at the time of writing, plus a fuel surcharge). A family of four pays about the same by taxi or rideshare, which charges per vehicle, and from five people one vehicle usually wins. Deluxe resort guests with toddlers can book a Minnie Van, with up to two free car seats. Rent a car only for off-site stays or Universal and beach days.

Drive times assume light traffic; the Disney Springs area is about 19 miles from MCO, most Disney resorts 21 to 25.

Mears Connect: the shuttle that replaced Magical Express

Mears Connect is a shared shuttle, using motorcoaches and vans, that runs 24 hours a day between MCO and every Disney-owned resort hotel plus more than a dozen non-Disney hotels nearby. Mears says vehicles leave for each resort area every 20 to 30 minutes and the ride takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your hotel, traffic and stops.

  • Standard, adults: $17.60 airport to resort, $16 resort to airport, $33.60 round trip. The arrival and round-trip prices include a $1.60 privilege fee recovery charge.
  • Standard, children 3-9: $14.30 to the resort, $13 back, $27.30 round trip. Children under 3 ride free.
  • Express: round trip only, $250 for up to four people and $55 for each additional rider, children included. Your hotel is the first stop on arrival and the last pickup on departure.
  • Surcharge: at the time of writing, Mears adds a 6% fuel surcharge to all reservations.

Mears Connect checks in on Level 1 (Ground Transportation) at Terminal B, bus slots B91-B97, and on Level 1 at Terminal C. Terminal A flyers walk to the B side of the same building. Scan your booking’s QR code at the kiosk, check in at the counter with your whole party and board the next vehicle for your area. The boarding pass stays valid for 48 hours if your flight is delayed.

For the trip home, Mears schedules your hotel pickup about 3 hours before a domestic flight (4 hours for international) and emails the boarding pass 23 hours ahead; be at the pickup spot 10 to 15 minutes early, because drivers cannot wait. Cancellations are free until 24 hours before travel. Car seats are not required on the motorcoaches, and you can bring your own for the vans.

Uber, Lyft and taxis

A rideshare, like a taxi, takes you door to door with no stops at other hotels. Uber, Lyft and other apps pick up on the Level 2 arrivals curb at Terminals A and B around the clock and on the Level 6 arrivals curb at Terminal C. There is no published rate: the app quotes a price before you book, and it climbs when demand surges.

Taxis wait on Level 1 at Terminals A and B and on the Level 6 arrivals curb at Terminal C. Fares are metered (flat rates are not allowed), and one cab costs the same for one passenger or nine. The airport’s rate table says $52 to $68 to the Disney resorts area, but it looks dated, and TouringPlans has reported $65 to $85. Budget for the higher end, plus tip.

Traveling with young kids? Florida law requires children 5 and younger to ride in a crash-tested child restraint: a car seat through age 3, a car seat or booster at 4 and 5. Hired taxis and limos are exempt from the rule, but the law leaves the parent responsible, so plan on a seat in any car. Uber Car Seat in Orlando supplies one seat per reserved trip, for a $10 surcharge. Need more? Bring your own, book a private car that provides them, or ride Mears Connect or a Minnie Van.

Disney’s Minnie Van airport service

Disney’s polka-dot Minnie Vans, driven by cast members, run between Orlando International Airport and the resorts for guests of Disney Deluxe Resort hotels, Deluxe Villa resorts and Club Level rooms. A standard van seats up to six; accessible vans carry five passengers plus two mobility devices. Up to two car seats are free.

Book by phone at 407-828-3500, from 60 days until 2 days before you arrive. Disney’s FAQ lists no fare; planning sites reported $249 per van each way in 2026, said to include tax, fees and a set tip, so confirm when you call. It suits a family of five or six with toddlers.

Private car services

A pre-booked car meets you at the airport and drives straight to your hotel. Mears, the airport’s ground transportation concessionaire, runs a private service (Mears Luxe) with sedans for up to four people, SUVs for five, vans for eight and executive vans for up to 13. The airport also lists dozens of companies permitted to collect pre-booked passengers.

Prices are per vehicle, so the gap with Mears Connect narrows as your group grows. Ask whether a quote includes tolls, fees and tip, whether car seats are supplied and whether a grocery stop costs extra.

Renting a car at MCO

Ten rental brands operate on site: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Sixt and Thrifty. At Terminals A and B you collect the car in the terminal garage; Terminal C has its own garage pickup.

The fastest routes to Disney use toll roads (SR 528 or SR 417), so check your rental company’s toll program and its daily fees before you leave the lot. Then add parking:

  • Disney-owned resort hotels: overnight self-parking is free, and standard theme park parking is included for resort guests.
  • Other visitors at the theme parks: $35 a day for standard parking at the time of writing; preferred spots cost more.
  • Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin and Swan Reserve: $40 a day plus tax for hotel self-parking at the time of writing; theme park parking is included.
  • Off-site hotels: anything from free to $25 or more a night, so check before you book.

A middle path: Disney’s preferred rental partners (Enterprise, Alamo and National) also have a desk at the Walt Disney World Car Care Center, so you can take Mears Connect in and rent only for the days you leave Disney property.

LYNX Link 311: the $2 public bus

LYNX Link 311 is a regular city bus from the airport to the Disney Springs area via the Sand Lake Road SunRail station, the Florida Mall and Destination Parkway; some trips also stop at the Epic Universe transfer center. It boards on the A side of the main terminal, Level 1, Commercial Lane spaces A38-A41.

  • Fare: $2 a ride or $4.50 for an all-day pass, payable in cash or through the LYNX app.
  • Hours: buses leave the airport about every 30 minutes from 4:50 a.m. (5:05 a.m. on weekends and holidays); the last one leaves at 10:05 p.m. every day, per the April 2026 schedule.
  • Time: the timetable allows about 50 to 75 minutes to the Disney Springs area, the longest in the late afternoon.

The bus stops short of your hotel. Disney’s buses from Disney Springs to its resorts are for resort guests and diners with reservations, and Disney’s rules bar luggage of any kind on its buses, so plan on a short rideshare or taxi for the last leg.

Brightline, SunRail and other options that don’t reach Disney

Brightline‘s high-speed trains run from the station at MCO to South Florida, but there is no Disney station. Arriving by Brightline? Mears Connect picks up at Terminal C, a short walk across the pedestrian bridge. SunRail reaches the airport only through a LYNX bus link and runs on weekdays, and Universal’s SuperStar Shuttle serves Universal hotels only.

What each option really costs: sample trips

Your partyMears Standard, round tripMears Express, round tripTaxi, round trip (estimate)
2 adults$67.20$250$104-$170
2 adults, 2 kids aged 3-9$121.80$250$104-$170
4 adults$134.40$250$104-$170
6 adults$201.60$360$104-$170 (van cab)

Mears totals include its fee recovery charge but not the 6% fuel surcharge (about $4 to $22 more). Taxi figures double a one-way range of $52 (airport estimate) to $85 (planner reports) and exclude tip.

Per-person shuttle fares win for one to three travelers and usually for two adults with two young kids. With four adults it’s roughly a wash; from five or six people, a vehicle you pay for once usually costs less, is faster and skips other hotels’ stops. Express never beats Standard on price; you pay for the first stop.

For a rental car, add up the daily rate, taxes, tolls and parking. At a Disney-owned resort parking is free, so a car mainly buys flexibility for Universal, the beach or groceries. At an off-site hotel without a Disney shuttle, $35 a day in theme park parking plus hotel parking can easily exceed every transfer above. Still choosing a base? Our look at whether a Disney resort is worth it weighs these costs, and our list of Orlando hotels with free Disney World shuttles covers off-site stays where you can skip the car.

Hotels that make the airport transfer easier

The easiest car-free setup is a hotel on the Mears Connect route with its own park transportation. Every Disney-owned resort qualifies; book those directly with Disney, not on Booking.com. Non-Disney stops include the Swan, Swan Reserve, Shades of Green, Gaylord Palms and the Disney Springs Resort Area hotels, among them Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista. Three stand out.

Walt Disney World Dolphin

Aerial view of the pools, sandy beach and swan paddleboats at Walt Disney World Dolphin

The Dolphin sits on Crescent Lake between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Mears Connect picks up outside its main lobby. You rarely need a car: the hotel says water taxis run about every 20 to 25 minutes to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios (both also reachable on foot), and buses serve Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. Guests get Early Theme Park Entry and, on select nights, Extended Evening Hours.

Skipping the car saves real money: self-parking is $40 a day plus tax, on top of a mandatory $50-plus-tax daily resort service package at the time of writing. Compare it with its neighbors in our Swan vs Dolphin vs Swan Reserve guide.

Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando – Disney Springs Area

Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando Disney Springs Area pool and tower at sunset with red umbrellas

This 602-room hotel at 2000 Hotel Plaza Boulevard, 0.5 to 0.8 miles from Disney Springs by Drury’s figures, is a stop on the Mears Connect route. Mears picks up outside the main lobby exit, and the hotel’s free shuttle runs every hour to all four theme parks, no reservation needed. Guests also get Early Theme Park Entry.

There is no resort fee, and a hot breakfast and the evening 5:30 Kickback are included. Parking costs extra (the hotel’s pages listed $25 to $28 a night at the time of writing). Two-queen rooms sleep up to five and queen suites up to six. More in our Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando guide.

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

Landing near midnight with tired kids? Sleep at the airport and go to Disney in the morning. The 445-room Hyatt Regency is inside the main Terminal A/B building, outside security, so Terminal A and B arrivals can walk from baggage claim to their room. Mears tells airport-hotel guests to book Mears Connect for their arrival date and ride the next day. More choices are in our guide to Orlando airport hotels.

Tips for a smooth arrival day

  • Book Mears Connect before you fly. You need your airline and flight number. Mears gets no automatic flight updates, so edit the booking yourself if your flight changes.
  • Check your terminal. At Terminal C, Mears is on Level 1 while taxis and rideshare load on Level 6.
  • Landing late? Mears Connect runs 24 hours, and rideshare pickup at Terminals A and B works around the clock. The last Link 311 bus leaves the airport at 10:05 p.m.
  • Use early entry on day two. Early Theme Park Entry makes up for a slow arrival day; see our list of non-Disney hotels with Early Theme Park Entry.

Frequently asked questions

Does Disney World still have a free airport shuttle?

No. Disney’s Magical Express ended in January 2022, and Disney says airport transfers are not included in a Disney Resort hotel stay. The closest replacement is Mears Connect, a paid shared shuttle to every Disney-owned resort and more than a dozen nearby hotels, at $17.60 per adult one way at the time of writing.

How long does it take to get from Orlando airport to Disney World?

By car, about 30 to 45 minutes in light traffic: roughly 19 miles to the Disney Springs area and 21 to 25 miles to most Disney resorts. Mears Connect quotes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your hotel, traffic and stops. The $2 LYNX Link 311 bus is timetabled at about 50 to 75 minutes and stops in the Disney Springs area, not at your hotel.

What is the cheapest way from Orlando airport to Disney World?

The LYNX Link 311 bus, at $2 per person, but it makes many stops, ends in the Disney Springs area, and Disney’s buses bar luggage, so you still need a ride to your hotel. With suitcases, Mears Connect Standard is cheapest for one to three people at $33.60 round trip per adult before the 6% fuel surcharge. For five or more, a taxi or rideshare usually costs less.

Is a rideshare or Mears Connect better for a family of four?

On price it’s close. Mears Standard costs $121.80 round trip for two adults and two kids aged 3 to 9 (about $129 with the 6% fuel surcharge), while a taxi runs roughly $52 to $85 each way plus tip. A taxi or rideshare is faster and goes straight to your hotel, but Uber Car Seat supplies only one seat per trip, so bring your own if you need more.

Do I need a rental car at Disney World?

Not if you stay at a Disney-owned resort or a hotel with good park transport and plan only Disney days, since Disney’s buses, boats, monorail and Skyliner link its resorts and parks. A car pays off for Universal or beach days, or at an off-site hotel without a shuttle. Disney resort guests (and Swan and Dolphin guests) get theme park parking included; others pay $35 a day at the time of writing.

Does Mears Connect go to Universal or to hotels outside Disney?

Not to Universal. Mears Connect serves all Disney-owned resorts plus a set list of Disney-area hotels, including the Swan and Dolphin, the Disney Springs Resort Area hotels and Gaylord Palms. For any other hotel, Mears offers private car service, or you can use a rideshare, taxi or rental car.
