Getting from Orlando to Port Canaveral takes about an hour by car. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is roughly 45 to 47 miles from the cruise terminals by road, and the Disney and Universal areas are about 55 to 70 miles away, almost all of it on SR 528, the Beachline Expressway, which is a toll road. You can drive and park at the port, buy a transfer from your cruise line, book a shared shuttle, or take a taxi or rideshare.

Below, each option is compared using fares and rates from the port, the airport, the cruise lines and the shuttle companies. Prices change often, so confirm them before you travel.

Quick answer: From the airport, the cheapest way to Port Canaveral is usually a shared shuttle (Go Port listed fares from $29.99 per person each way, and Cocoa Beach Express “as low as $28”) or your cruise line’s transfer (Carnival listed fares from $37.99 per person). For a family of four or more, a taxi (about $115 per vehicle, according to MCO) or a rideshare can cost less. If you have a car, the drive takes about an hour from MCO and roughly 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes from the theme park areas without traffic, and port parking is $20 a day plus tax.

Port Canaveral is home to seven major cruise lines: Carnival, Celebrity, Disney Cruise Line, MSC, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean. Its seven terminals sit on both sides of the harbor, so check your documents for yours.

How far is it from Orlando to Port Canaveral?

The port says MCO is about 45 minutes away via SR 528 East, and the airport describes it as a 42-mile route. Our own road check (OSRM routing, measured from the main airport terminals to the cruise terminals) came out a little longer, at about 47 miles. From the theme park areas, add I-4, SR 417 or SR 482 to reach the Beachline.

“pp” means per person, one way. Shuttles and cruise line transfers charge each traveler, while taxis charge per trip, which is why MCO itself suggests groups compare the two.

Cruise line transfers from the airport

Many lines sell their own transfers between MCO and the port on embarkation and debarkation days. They’re the simplest choice if you fly in on sailing day, because the line knows your ship and timing. MCO suggests checking with your cruise line first.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival listed its MCO-to-port transfer from $37.99 per person at the time of writing, run by Sunward Tours. You can buy it up to two days before you sail. Your flight must land at MCO by 12:00 PM on cruise day, and the transfers run between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM from the Terminal B ground transportation area on Level 1. For the trip home, Carnival says return flights must not be earlier than 12:50 PM.

Carnival also sold a debarkation-day option that stops at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on the way to MCO, with admission included (from $119.99 for ages 13 and up and $114.99 for children 12 and under at the time of writing). It is meant for flights leaving after 5:00 PM. If you’d rather stay a night on the Space Coast, see our guide to hotels near Kennedy Space Center.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line sells ground transfers to Port Canaveral from both MCO and Walt Disney World Resort hotels, which makes it the easiest way to combine a Disney World stay with a Disney cruise without a car. On Disney’s official planDisney forum, a Disney panelist quoted $45 per person one way, or $90 round trip, from either starting point in August 2025. We couldn’t load a current price on Disney Cruise Line’s own ground transportation page (it redirected us to a non-US version, and archived copies didn’t show fares), so treat this as a guide and confirm the price in your reservation.

Royal Caribbean and other lines

Royal Caribbean says all its ports have airport transfers for an additional fee, and its directions page lists Cruise Terminals 1, 5 and 6 at Port Canaveral. For Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian and Princess, check your booking or call the line for transfer options and prices.

Shared shuttles and private transfers from MCO

If your cruise line’s transfer doesn’t fit your flight, independent shuttles fill the gap. MCO lists five on-site cruise transfer companies: Busy Traveler Transportation, Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Go Port, Mears Destination Services and Sunward Tours. The airport asks you to contact them directly about fares and schedules.

  • Go Port: The shared shuttle was from $29.99 per traveler each way at the time of writing. Check in at the Go Port counter in Terminal A, Level 1 (Ground Transportation). Go Port’s help pages, updated in October 2026, say same-day shuttles to the port run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and that your flight should land by 11:00 AM; some older Go Port pages still mention 12:30 PM, so check your confirmation. Go Port also sells private black car service for up to six travelers.
  • Cocoa Beach Express: The port’s official ground transportation concessionaire advertises shared rides from MCO to the port and area hotels “as low as $28 per person” one way, depending on your itinerary. It also lists theme park service.
  • Taxi: MCO’s ground transportation table puts a taxi to Port Canaveral at about $115. For four or more people, that can beat paying per person.

Uber and Lyft also operate at Port Canaveral, according to the port. Rideshare prices change with demand, so compare them with a taxi, especially if you need a large vehicle for luggage.

From Disney World, Universal or International Drive

Leaving from a theme park hotel is a little different from flying in, because most airport shuttles start at MCO.

  • Staying at a Disney Resort hotel: Disney Cruise Line passengers can book the line’s transfer from Walt Disney World Resort hotels (see above). On other lines, you’ll need a private transfer, a rideshare or a car.
  • Staying at Universal or on International Drive: You’re about 56 miles from the port, and the route is a straight run east on SR 528. A rideshare, a private car service or a rental car usually works best. Cocoa Beach Express says it serves the theme parks, so ask for a quote.
  • Returning to Orlando after the cruise: The port says some cruise lines offer transportation to Orlando’s theme parks and attractions, and that ground transportation providers at the port offer private and shared rides. Ask your cruise line first.

Driving yourself: route, tolls and rental cars

The route is simple. From the airport, take the north exit onto SR 528 East and stay on it to the port. Use Exit 54A for the A terminals (Cruise Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10) on the north side, or Exit 54B for the B terminals (1, 2 and 3) on the south side. From the Disney area, you’ll typically take I-4 or SR 417 to SR 528. From Universal, SR 482 gets you there.

SR 528 is a toll road. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) runs the 23 miles between Boggy Creek Road and SR 520. Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise operates the eight miles at the western end (I-4 to Boggy Creek Road) and the 15 miles at the eastern end (SR 520 to US 1). CFX roads are fully cashless: you pay with E-PASS or a compatible transponder, or by Pay By Plate, which costs more (CFX says transponder discounts reach up to 50%). Our guide to Orlando toll roads explains SunPass, E-PASS and rental car toll programs.

A one-way rental works well after a few park days. The port says major rental car companies offer shuttle transfers to and from Port Canaveral, so you can return the car nearby and ride to the terminal. Check the one-way fee and shuttle times first.

Port Canaveral cruise parking

If you drive and leave the car at the port, here’s what the Canaveral Port Authority listed at the time of writing:

  • Rate: $20 per day plus tax for cars and RVs, and the count includes both the day you arrive and the day you return. A seven-night cruise therefore counts as eight days.
  • Payment: You pay when you enter the lot. It’s cashless, with American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Discover accepted.
  • No reservations: The port says there’s plenty of space at every terminal, including oversized spaces for RVs.
  • Location: Garages and surface lots sit next to each terminal, so there’s no parking shuttle; you park and walk.
  • Opening time: Lots and garages open at 10 AM for embarking passengers.
  • Disabled parking: The fee is waived only for vehicles that meet specific Florida criteria, such as those with special equipment, a Florida Toll Exemption Permit or a Florida Disabled Veteran plate.

Drop passengers and bags at the terminal first; porters take the luggage while the driver parks. Some nearby hotels offer lower-priced park-and-cruise deals (see below).

Timing your arrival and your flight home

Cruise day leaves little room for delays. These timing rules come from the port, the cruise lines and the shuttle operators:

  1. Follow your boarding time. The port asks you to arrive at your assigned time, and its lots don’t open before 10 AM.
  2. Land early or arrive the day before. Carnival’s transfer needs your flight on the ground by noon, and Go Port asks for an 11:00 AM landing because its last same-day shuttle leaves MCO at 12:00 PM, according to its October 2026 help pages. A delayed flight can leave you with only a taxi or rideshare, so many cruisers fly in the day before.
  3. Allow for traffic. Our drive times assume clear roads. Leave a buffer, especially if you’re coming from the Disney area across I-4.
  4. Book an afternoon flight home. Carnival says return flights must be no earlier than 12:50 PM if you take its transfer. Go Port’s port-to-airport shuttles start at 7:00 AM and run until about 10:00 AM or until debarkation is complete.

Where to stay the night before your cruise

The two most practical bases are the airport, if you land late, and Cape Canaveral itself, a short ride from the terminals. Our full guide to hotels near Port Canaveral compares more pre-cruise hotels and park-and-cruise packages, and the best hotels in Cocoa Beach suits you if you’d like a beach night first. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book.

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

The airport says this 445-room hotel is inside Terminal A/B, before security, and it has a rooftop pool. Land late the night before you sail, sleep without leaving the building, then head down to the Go Port counter or your cruise line’s transfer in the morning. More choices are in our guide to Orlando airport hotels.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Port Canaveral from Orlando?

Port Canaveral is about 47 miles by road from Orlando International Airport, roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car on SR 528. From Universal and International Drive it’s about 54 to 56 miles, from Disney Springs about 62 miles, and from the Magic Kingdom area about 68 miles. Allow about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes from the parks before traffic.

What is the cheapest way to get from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral?

For one or two travelers, a shared shuttle is usually cheapest. Go Port listed fares from $29.99 per person each way, Cocoa Beach Express advertised fares “as low as $28”, and Carnival’s own transfer started at $37.99 at the time of writing. For larger groups, a taxi (about $115 per vehicle, per MCO) or a rideshare can work out cheaper.

Is there a shuttle from Disney World to Port Canaveral?

Yes, for Disney Cruise Line passengers. Disney sells transfers from Walt Disney World Resort hotels to the port, quoted on its planDisney forum at $45 per person one way in August 2025. For other cruise lines, use a private transfer, a rideshare or a rental car. Cocoa Beach Express says it also serves the theme parks, so ask it for a quote.

How much is parking at Port Canaveral?

The Canaveral Port Authority charged $20 per day plus tax for cars and RVs at the time of writing, counting both the day you arrive and the day you return. You pay by card when you enter, cash isn’t accepted, and no reservation is needed. Lots open at 10 AM for embarking passengers.

What time should my flight land on cruise day?

If you’re using a transfer, land by late morning. Carnival requires flights to arrive at MCO by 12:00 PM, and Go Port asks for an 11:00 AM landing because its last same-day shuttle leaves the airport at 12:00 PM. Flying in the day before removes the risk of a delay making you miss the ship. For the trip home, Carnival says to book flights no earlier than 12:50 PM.

Bottom line

Orlando to Port Canaveral is an easy hour on the Beachline, so the real decision is cost and timing. Solo travelers and couples flying in should look at a shared shuttle or the cruise line’s transfer. Families often do better with a taxi, a rideshare or a car, plus $20 a day to park at the port. If your flight lands late or the morning feels tight, spend the night at the airport or in Cape Canaveral and start cruise day close to the ship.
