The best time to visit Disney World is a weekday in early November, the first half of December, mid-January to early February or late April to mid-May: local schools are in session, the weather is mild and you skip the holiday weeks. If price matters most, Disney’s ticket data points to late August and early September, when its cheapest 2027 tickets fall, if you can handle heat, storms and peak hurricane season.

We built this Disney-only guide from Disney’s own calendar, ticket, event and policy pages plus federal holiday and local school calendars, all checked in October 2026. Disney doesn’t publish crowd forecasts, so every busy or quiet call below comes with the official signal behind it. For Universal, SeaWorld and the city as a whole, see our guide to the best time to visit Orlando and the best time to visit Universal Orlando.
Quick answer: For mild weather with local schools in session, aim for November 2–20, December 1–18, January 11 – February 11 or late April to mid-May, Monday to Thursday. Avoid Thanksgiving week (November 23–27), December 19 – January 3, Presidents’ Day weekend (February 13–15), mid-March spring breaks and Easter (March 28). For the lowest ticket prices, look at late August and early September 2027. Go in November or December for the holiday parties, from January 15 for EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts and from March 10 for Flower & Garden.

The best windows, and the trade-off in each
November 2–20, 2026: food festival plus the first holiday decor
The Halloween party season ends October 31, EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival runs until November 21, and Disney’s holiday season starts November 13, so mid-November gives you both. The catch: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes for refurbishment on November 2, and on Christmas party nights Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.
December 1–18: the holidays before school breaks
All four parks are dressed for the season, EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays and Candlelight Processional run from November 27, and Orange County students are in class until December 18. The holiday room and package offers on Disney’s Canadian offers page both stop at December 24, a hint of where the holiday peak begins (US offers may differ). Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected back in December; Disney’s calendar listed it as closed through December 17.
January 11 – February 11: the quiet-season bargain
Marathon Weekend ends January 10, the holiday season wraps up January 6, and EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts opens January 15. Disney lists savings of up to $250 a night on select 4-night room-and-ticket packages for select nights from January 3 to July 28, 2027, and its Parks Blog adds up to 25% off select rooms from January 3 to April 29 (both booked with Disney). Avoid the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend (January 16–18) and pack layers, since January is Orlando’s coolest month.
Late April to mid-May: warm, dry and Flower & Garden
Easter (March 28) and most spring breaks are behind you, Flower & Garden runs until May 31, and Disney’s own planning blog calls late April and May “a perfect lead-in to summer before the kids are officially out of school.” Orange County’s school year ends May 26; stop before Memorial Day weekend.
Late August and early September: lowest prices, hardest weather
Disney’s planning blog says summer has many of the lowest-priced dates, “including some of the least expensive ones in August and September,” and that summer, early September and a couple of weeks before the holidays are typically good for lower crowds. The price is heat, frequent afternoon storms and the peak of hurricane season, so book refundable rates.
Ticket prices by date: what Disney publishes
Disney World tickets are date-based. When we checked, the lowest 1-day, 1-park price was $119 plus tax for ages 10 and up and $114 for ages 3 to 9. Disney’s ticket data tied it to an Animal Kingdom ticket on August 17 or September 1, 2027; 1-day prices also vary by park. Multi-day tickets cost less per day: a 7-day base ticket started at $567.38 plus tax (about $81 a day) for an August 23, 2027 start.
Compare your exact dates on the calendar of Disney’s ticket page. Disney also says theme park reservations are no longer required for date-based tickets, though other admission types may still need them.
Park hours, Early Entry and Extended Evening Hours
Through December 19, the last date on Disney’s hours calendar, most days run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Animal Kingdom and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Magic Kingdom, except on party nights. Some October days differ: on Saturdays, October 17 and 24, Magic Kingdom opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., and Hollywood Studios closes at 5 p.m. on October 20 for a special ticketed event.
Early Theme Park Entry gives 30 minutes before opening at every park, every day of your stay, to Disney Resort guests and 15 other hotels, including the Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and the eight Disney Springs Resort Area hotels; Disney says the perk continues through 2027. Extended Evening Hours, up to two extra hours on select nights, are only for Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa guests plus the Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and Shades of Green. Through December 18, they fall on EPCOT on most Mondays (9 to 11 p.m.), Animal Kingdom on October 20 and 26 and then Wednesdays from November 4 (6 to 8 p.m.), and Hollywood Studios on October 28 only, with no Magic Kingdom nights. Our Disney Extended Evening Hours guide and Animal Kingdom tips show how to use them.
Your hotel also sets your Lightning Lane window: all Disney Resort, Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and Shades of Green guests can buy passes 7 days before arrival, everyone else 3 days before their park day. At peak times that head start matters; see our Disney Lightning Lane guide.
Seasonal events: what they add and what they change
Christmas party and Jollywood Nights (November to early January)
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs from 7 p.m. to midnight on 25 nights from November 8 to December 22, 2026, with tickets from $189 to $229 plus tax ($10 less for ages 3 to 9). On those nights Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 p.m., so plan your regular Magic Kingdom day for a non-party date; our Magic Kingdom tips help you schedule it.

Disney Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios runs from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on 15 nights from November 7, 2026 to January 5, 2027 ($169 to $199 plus tax); Disney’s calendar closes the park to day guests at 7 p.m. on those dates. The 2026 Halloween party is sold out and ends October 31; 2027 dates aren’t out yet. Our Hollywood Studios tips cover the park.
EPCOT festivals (almost all year)
All four come with EPCOT admission (Disney’s pages say so for three; the Festival of the Holidays sells no separate ticket): Food & Wine until November 21, 2026, Festival of the Holidays from November 27 to December 30, Festival of the Arts from January 15 to March 1, 2027, and Flower & Garden from March 10 to May 31, 2027. Disney hadn’t announced 2027 Food & Wine dates (the 2026 festival began August 27). Details are in our EPCOT festivals calendar and EPCOT tips.

runDisney weekends and Disney After Hours
Race weekends fill hotels and shift park hours. runDisney lists Wine & Dine on October 22–25, 2026, Marathon Weekend on January 6–10, 2027, the Princess Half Marathon on February 25 – March 1 and Springtime Surprise on April 8–11; every race on all four weekends showed as sold out when we checked. Disney’s calendar opens EPCOT at 10 a.m., not 9, on October 23 and 25, both race mornings. See our runDisney race weekends hotel guide.
Disney After Hours, three-hour separately ticketed nights with shorter waits, returns in 2027 at Magic Kingdom (January to July, $189 to $209 plus tax), Hollywood Studios and EPCOT (January to August, from $159).
Refurbishments and closures to plan around
These closures were posted on Disney’s attraction pages and calendar when we checked:
| Attraction | Park | Closed | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typhoon Lagoon | Water park | Temporarily closed | No reopening date; Blizzard Beach is open |
| Carousel of Progress | Magic Kingdom | Since July 6, 2026 | Expected back late spring 2027 |
| Tiana’s Bayou Adventure | Magic Kingdom | From Nov 2, 2026 | Expected back December 2026 |
| Walt Disney World Railroad | Magic Kingdom | Through Oct 29, 2026 | Per Disney’s calendar |
| Slush Gusher | Blizzard Beach | On every calendar date | Rest of the park open |
For winter swims, Blizzard Beach was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through December 19, and Disney says its pools are heated to about 81°F.
Weather and hurricane season at Disney World
NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Orlando International Airport put the average high at 71.8°F in January and 92.0°F in July. From June to September it rains on 14 to 17 days a month, against 6 or 7 from November to April, and NWS Melbourne says more than 90 percent of the area’s lightning strikes from May through October, mostly between noon and midnight.

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10, according to the National Hurricane Center. Disney’s current policy says that if the National Hurricane Center issues a hurricane warning for the Orlando area or your home area within 7 days of arrival, you may reschedule or cancel Walt Disney Travel Company packages and most room-only reservations booked directly with Disney, without Disney’s change or cancellation fees. Third-party fees, such as airlines’, still apply, and certain special events and dining experiences are excluded. If you book a non-Disney hotel on Booking.com, choose a free-cancellation rate for August to October; our Orlando hurricane season guide explains the rest.
Hotels near Disney to match your travel dates
All three picks below are on Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry list, and each fits a different season. Disney ties the perks to registered guests without naming a booking channel; confirm at check-in. Rates vary by season, availability and how far ahead you book. For more choices, see our best hotels near Disney World.
Walt Disney World Dolphin: for EPCOT festivals and peak dates

At busy times or for a festival, the Dolphin is one of the few hotels on Booking.com with all three Disney perks: Early Entry, Extended Evening Hours (useful on EPCOT’s Monday nights) and the 7-day Lightning Lane window. EPCOT’s International Gateway is about 0.7 mile on foot and Hollywood Studios about 1.1 miles, and water taxis serve both. The resort’s FAQ says buses run until 45 minutes after the parks close.
There is a $50 plus tax daily resort service package and self-parking costs $40 plus tax a day, but standard theme park parking is free for registered guests. The Dolphin’s room pages list Traditional rooms for two adults and three children, while its reservations FAQ charges extra for a third, fourth or fifth adult, so confirm for adult groups. Read our Walt Disney World Dolphin review.

Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando: for quiet-season value

In January, February or late spring, extras matter more than perks. Drury charges no resort fee and includes a hot breakfast (6 to 10 a.m.) and the 5:30 Kickback with hot food and drinks (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.), and its FAQ says the pool is heated year-round. The free shuttle to all four parks runs first come, first served, and Drury’s brand page says it now also offers free late-night rides back from select special events at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios; ask which ones before you buy party tickets.
Parking is $28 a night on Drury’s brand page, while the hotel FAQ says $25 plus tax, so confirm at check-in. Disney Springs is about half a mile away. More in our Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando review.

Holiday Inn Orlando – Disney Springs Area: for the holiday season

From mid-November, Disney Springs adds its Christmas Tree Stroll and visits with Santa, and this Holiday Inn is a 7 to 10 minute walk away, according to its FAQ. Its $39 plus 12.5% tax nightly resort fee covers hourly shuttles to all four parks (reserve a seat), welcome drinks and two bottles of water a day. The hotel says its shuttles don’t run to special events such as the marathon or after-hours events like the Christmas party and Jollywood Nights, so plan a rideshare for those nights.
Standard parking is $27 a night ($31 preferred), and you must be 21 to check in. See our Holiday Inn Orlando Disney Springs review.

Frequently asked questions
What is the least crowded time to go to Disney World?
Disney doesn’t publish crowd data, so no month is officially the quietest. Its planning blog says summer, early September and a couple of weeks before the holidays are typically good for lower crowds. School calendars point to midweek days in early November, December 1–18, mid-January to early February and late April to mid-May. Avoid Thanksgiving week, Christmas to New Year and spring break.
What is the cheapest time to go to Disney World?
Late summer. Disney says many of its lowest-priced dates fall in summer, including some of the cheapest in August and September, and its ticket data tied the lowest 1-day price ($119 plus tax for ages 10 and up, for Animal Kingdom) to August 17 and September 1, 2027. Longer tickets cost less per day, and Disney’s 2027 package offer covers stays from January 3 to July 28 (direct bookings).
What is the best month to go to Disney World?
For most families, November or early May. November is Orlando’s driest month and brings both Food & Wine and the holiday season, though Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes on November 2. Early May brings Flower & Garden and warm, mostly dry days before local schools break for summer on May 26. January and February are cooler and calmer but have fewer swim days.
Are any Disney World rides closed for refurbishment?
Yes. When we checked, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress had been closed since July 6, 2026 and was expected back in late spring 2027, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes on November 2 and is expected back in December 2026, and Typhoon Lagoon was temporarily closed with no reopening date. Check each attraction’s page on Disney’s site a few weeks before your trip.
Is hurricane season a bad time to visit Disney World?
Not necessarily, but book flexibly. The season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10. Disney’s policy lets you reschedule or cancel Disney packages and most room-only stays booked directly with Disney, without its fees, if a hurricane warning is issued within 7 days of arrival. Non-Disney hotels follow their own terms, so pick free-cancellation rates.
Bottom line
The best time to visit Disney World is a midweek stretch outside school breaks and holiday weeks, such as early November, the first half of December, mid-January to early February or late April to mid-May. Then match the season to your wish list: Christmas parties from November 8, EPCOT festivals almost all year, the lowest ticket prices in late summer, and the Dolphin’s perks if you can only travel at peak times.
